It's not her, it's you.

You are absolutely meeting the wrong women. Hmmm, a big you problem. Honestly, good women do not use men as tools. You've hit some bad people. That's on you and not on "ALLL" women. A good woman offers more than just sex. You are an immature person who obviously never talked to a real live woman. I have a wonderful partner, we've been together for about 3 decades. We both pull our weight every effing day. To address your moronic comment that we can only offer sex. Take some time to talk to a rea…

Well, maybe average looks to dumbshits like you. High quality men look beyond. Both Hugh and Kenua are with women who are smart and talented, looks don't last forever, but quality does.

Men are able to love women unconditionally Only if they completely lack self-respect. So, if you were with a woman who cheated, stole your possessions, gave away your dog, you'd still have the same level of love? Hmmm. Not attractive by any metric. Men are able to love women that they aren't attracted to. That's limerence, lust, or naiveté.

What many men get wrong is that they believe women love them for who they want to be, as opposed to what they are. And it's probably true if reversed. Unconditional love is for babies, toddlers, and pets. Unconditional love for another adult is a chimera. Both people need to be responsible and proactive. I think that your argument is very interesting, it doesn't hold up well when there are no reproductive benefits and if she is equally financially healthy. Meh. Familiarity does not breed contemp…

Yeah, this is rough. I WAS an FDS for a hot minute when they made some sense. I got kicked off when I made the "mistake" of saying that someone screwed up by seriously trying to take advantage of her date. I don't like either side trying to take advantage. It's not rocket surgery. I don't love or hate either of you two sides. I'm just asking that we all treat each other as just plain people.

Hilarious how? "Fucking on easy mode" yells that he can only get sex from vulnerable women. Maybe that's your gig as well. These women are real people. Looking at them as an easy lay is despicable. They are vulnerable and hoping for better for themselves. You shit-heads can't even acknowledge that they're real people.

Thanks for saying this. Your second paragraph is exactly what I was reading. He is disgusting.

Your level of delusion is bordering on criminal. Of course you have "success" because you pretend to not be a "John," you're much worse. You can be a line-cook at McDonald's and look like a "god" to a woman living below the poverty line. You are NOT successful, you are a predator.

I would check with local ranges. The one that I go to most frequently has a good number of classes and meetings that are only for women. Also, if possible, find a range that does simulations - it's a great way to practice several possible scenarios annnnd you are not burning up your ammo (that shit's getting harder to find and expensive when you do). Edited to add a word

Check them out - they are AWESOME!!! Super easy to clean and doesn't turn the kitchen into a greasy mess like frying does. I finally, finally was able to perfect fried green tomatoes with mine. I also use it to cook wings for Buffalo wings.

I agree with you completely. It's a delicate balance which is why I train, train, and train some more. Every training moment with me is how can I get out of this situation without using my gun. I rely a lot with how I carry and present myself to prevent problems. I'm not a damn cowgirl. I walk with confidence, make eye contact, say hello. Prevents a fair few problems. I appreciate your comments. You made some great points.

I was afraid that this was what I was going to hear. I completely respect those who are against carrying - it's a very, very hard decision to make. I struggled for years with it. I know, as well, that guns may be banned. Probably, I'm more pro because I live alone and don't have to worry about an unstable partner. My heart breaks for women who are not allowed to protect themselves.

And this, my friend, is why I carry a gun when I walk my dog before bed. Unfortunately we can never "relax" or not be concerned when we're out (especially at night). I do understand that many of you on this site live where guns are banned and I hate that. I think that women everywhere should be allowed to carry. Level the playing field.

I could see your feelings about this move. Aggravations, challenges, effing blizzard (UGH!!!) the end result is that you took care of that business on your own and you own it. Congrats on your new house and your peace.

Exactly! Thank you for saying this. I've spent so much of my life feeling like an outlier for having boundaries, I've slipped a few times but life is all about getting better and smarter as we go along. This site is heartening because I'm seeing all of you young women drawing that hard line and sticking to it. I have so much admiration for you.

Shudder.....this SO much. I had two women friends who would go out with guys that they weren't even sure they liked, spend a ton of money on a new outfit (despite him not knowing what her wardrobe looked like), and THEN have sex with him after the date knowing that they still didn't like him. Somehow, I was pathetic because I refused to date someone I didn't like and wouldn't turn myself inside out for a date, let alone sleep with someone I didn't have feelings for. It just seemed like those int…

This is not a new thing, unfortunately. About 40 some years ago I worked with this guy who had (no joke) 6 kids with 6 different women. I asked him about it and he said that that was how women showed they loved their man - she has his baby apparently, this was status quo in his community.

You will always have to accept that offer. I detest that ultimatum mind-set. An ex tried that with me one time and I made sure the door hit him in the ass as he left and he later said, "It wasn't supposed to work that way." WTF? (Before anyone fusses, this was in the days before cell phones and internet or even caller ID).

I see that this author has met my mother, and they have my condolences. She would do anything for anyone and say that she didn't expect reciprocity, but that was a big, fat lie. She couldn't understand why she didn't get the respect and care that she felt she deserved (that was 10x more than she put in) and made life effing hell. She died 35 years ago and still have moments where I'm angry at her because that was my template growing up. I've done lots of therapy, mentally smacking myself, and wo…

I totally get what you're saying and I think you're 100% right. Being a pre-social media person, I'm so glad I don't have to mess with this shit. For me, relationship reality doesn't rely on Facebook or whatever for it to be real.

Nailed it, Sis!!! I'm so over women being bashed for (rightfully) expecting respect within their relationships and being not happy with their partner's porn use. REALLY???? Having strong boundaries is the least insecure posture in the world. I love that this site reinforces this on a regular basis.

At least the responses to the OP in this one are supporting her and validating her experience rather than telling her to communicate. I work with a guy who has severe problems with his diabetes and has had memory lapses during a dip. His reaction has NEVER been to laugh about it - he's been near tears at times because he was so ashamed of his behavior which was yelling at me when I told him to drink a soda. This guy is an effing monster. How dare he laugh.

Soooo, let me get this straight - he brings up committing a disrespectful act in a "mature" way. Shit dipped in glitter is still shit. What the hell is up with uttering every half-baked, unkind, thought that runs through their stupid heads? True communication builds up the relationship, he's tearing it apart. SMDH.

Hell, I wouldn't accept the proposal if I knew the ring wasn't paid off. It's just a loaner until that last payment is made. A woman's ONLY contribution to the ring is her opinion of what he should buy.

No, it needs to be killed with fire and I will gladly furnish the matches and lighter fluid. I "had" one of those once. It was EX-AUS-TING. That relationship sucked every bit of joy out of my life because all focus had to be on Mr. Sensitive at all times. If I was happy, he'd drag me down, if I was unhappy, he'd disappear.

This is so very important! I remember during a therapy appointment telling my therapist that I'd rather be alone and lonely than be lonely in my marriage. She told me to get the hell out. I thank her in my head every single day. One of the blessings of getting older is that being alone no longer equates with being lonely. I like living alone.

The only time my dirty underpants aren't in the laundry basket is when my pervy cat drags them into another room. He gets a pass because he's cute, affectionate, and.....an animal. BTW, he's also a lot cleaner that the men I've heard about on this site.

This is the thing I can't figure out. Maybe because of my generation (or I'm lucky as hell) but, I've only been with one loser who acted like this. He was both intentionally lazy and stupid as hell.

IKR? I've read so many accounts of young women who've had their nudes leaked, boyfriends secretly filming during sex, and so on and so on - there are just too many opportunities for that shit to go sideways. Long gone are the days of being able to burn the negatives.

Conversely, if you do have a low body-count, the scrotes aren't going to believe it. Back in the olden days, when such discussions would come up, I always got the side-eye because I was with so few people (like...1 person until I was 24). I got called a prude, frigid, etc - nope, I freaking love sex but have always been seriously particular about who I get naked with.

I flinched when I saw this. I kind of don't get the whole gender-reveal party idea, but...damn, I believe it was important to her and he screwed it up trying to be "funny." What a fucking troll. He probably smashed cake in her face at their wedding unless she's also the forever GF.

There are so many things wrong with this. Not you, OK? Anyone who wants to prove their worth through violence needs to be jettisoned 5 minutes ago. I hate the idea of violence being a viable reaction. I can accept it in response to an actual threat, but to brag about being violent puts you next to a future abuser. People like that are looking for a fight, and if they can't get one, they'll turn that aggression toward you.

OMG, thank you for saying this! I got screwed over SO hard when I got divorced and while I had met some very nice men that wanted to go out, I just couldn't bring myself to do it due to the inherent inbalance. (This was MANY years ago, thank God). I didn't feel right going out when I had so much work to do to get myself into a good financial spot. Ironically, now that I'm comfortable with where I am now, I have zero problems expecting a date to pay. Lol!

I'll only use hot water to make you tea or coffee. Your points are VERY well taken. There is a fine line between encouraging women to level up and eye-rolling at women who are struggling out of the restraints of codependency. It isn't easy at ALL. We are all at different points of the journey and I think your post was a well-reasoned call for restraint. Thank you for offering an on-point response.

I can't emphasize enough how terribly important this book is. Thank God, thank God, thank God, I trusted my intuition many years before I read the book. I was punished, as a child, for not letting strange men that my mom dated give me a hug, etc. I was so very glad to find out that I was right to trust me and not my (PICK ME, TO THE EXCEPTION OF MY OWN CHILDREN) mom.

Hey, are you me? We've been together for over 20 years and I'm pretty damn sure that it's because we have this arrangement as well. If I could just get people to stop giving me the side-eye for not wanting to marry him, life would be perfect. Maybe they're just jealous.

God love you, girl! 12 years at your age is a lot, but you're still so wonderfully young and the tools here will boost you so much. Keep caring for yourself and live your best life!! Big hugs.

Big yikes lead to big breakthroughs. Give your old self a much-needed hug. Give your right now self a big, deserved, hug.

Took me a bit to find it but....a book you might find helpful is, "The Cornered Cat." The entire focus of the book is for women who choose to conceal carry. It's very thoughtful and informative. I hope I'm not over-stepping by making the suggestion, but it really helped me make the decision to carry. Make your best shot!

Thank you for replying! I was afraid that you were going to say that you were 35 or 40. There are a lot of young women on this site and it has been an eye-opener to hear their stories and I'm so grateful to hear from them. Seriously about the hitting thing - my mom and grandmother had the absolute worst husbands in the universe so anything less than being beaten (or their children beaten) on a regular basis was near bliss. WTF??????? You are NOT old, 50 was mostly great for me. I hit 60 this yea…

This is beautifully pared-down. No wiggle room for making excuses for his behavior. I wish that I had had this when I was much younger and when I was older so that I could have given it to my daughters when they were teenagers.

Your story really resonates! At least my first husband wasn't abusive and did work a decent job,but he WAS a LVM to a staggering degree. When we got divorced, I got SOOO much crap from some of my family because, "at least he doesn't hit you." Being single is lovely! Finding your self worth is invaluable. Vetting is the best self care we can do for ourselves if we choose to date again. I can't resist asking....how old is a codger? My last bday I was told that I've joined the geezer club, lol.

Thank you so much for saying this. I completely agree. We are responsible for keeping our lives interesting. Jeez, there were so, so many things I had lined up to work on when it looked like we might go into a lockdown and I was so excited about it. It's very telling to me when people tell me that their lives essentially stopped when they had to shelter in place. Where's their internal life, their curiosity, the opportunity to explore?

I am so sorry that happened to you, and angry that these incidents are treated so casually by the police. Makes my blood boil. You are absolutely right about findings ways to defend yourself. I'm a big fan of carrying a gun but realize that's not feasible for way too many people. Another tool in the arsenal is situational awareness - cannot stress this enough. In a nutshell, any place other than home or work, you're on red alert. At work, yellow alert. Home, after it's secured, green alert. I th…

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that you were that stressed but glad that you're recovering. I used to get horrible migraines at least 2x a month - amazingly, they stopped as soon as the divorce was finalized. I'm sure it was just a coincidence, right? /s

You will never be sorry - going to the range is loads of fun. :) Do please, though, take lots of classes (lots of them). Even after shooting for 5 or 6 years, I'll sign up for an occasional class to confirm that my grip and stance is still up to par. Also, please take a basic safety class primarily because there is a lot of focus on when not to use your weapon.

I'm sure this response will be a game-changer for a guy like this /s. He'll probably stomp down to his basement "apartment" at mom's house and rage masturbate until he cries. That being said, that advice was perfect!

This man has SO much common sense. He expresses it so well when he tells men to get off of porn and video games because they're making them delusional. I like how he calls out men who want a HVW to "help" them get to where they want to be but those same men wouldn't do the same for a not-perfect (in their eyes) woman.

Good for you! High-five, hug, elbow bump. Take time for yourself to get over feeling rough - that 180 must have been shocking and THEN for him to not recognize how he screwed up can mess up a woman. Eat all of the food you like the best, keep moving (endorphins, you know), and get your rest. You will snap back and be even better than before. Screw that MF!!

Seriously! I cannot for the life of me understand where choking is an integral part of an intimate relationship. Hell, I flinch when the doctor checks my lymph nodes under my jaw and no one is getting near my neck when I'm most vulnerable.

I hear you on that. My take is that while he's "crying," he's thinking about how he looks.

I'm so glad for you that you had that epiphany. For a lot of us, it's been drummed into our heads since childhood that we have to accommodate everyone else, particularly men. It's so much less effort to accommodate ourselves and free ourselves from "having" to make things work.

That unconditional love and acceptance is complete crap! As an adult, everything is conditional and with good reason. Only small children and pets get a pass on this.

That gave me whiplash so many times that I don't think I'll ever be able to hold my head straight! If you're that intimidated by your SO, get off of your ass and fix yourself. That cascade of lies and rationalizations was effing epic. Glad you got out.

Wind pudding and air sauce with a large side of eye-roll. Idiot, I don't cook for people I'm not close to and trying to force-team me will backfire in a spectacular manner.

This, so much. My home is my refuge and sanctuary. Long ago, I had a friend that said all gifts should look good, smell good, or taste good. My home looks good, smells good, and all of my food tastes good - my home is a gift to myself and very few people get past my front door.

I'm so glad you posted this! I've seen the "wall" garbage and it is a total crock. I'm 60 (yes, 60 shudder) and there is no shortage of men to date. The only problem is, as you get older, you spend a lot more time weeding out the men looking for a nurse or a purse lol.

This cracks me up because, as I was driving home from work yesterday, I saw a young woman wearing a tee shirt that said, "Block him." I instantly thought of this sub.

No worries, I had a couple of dumbass brothers too. I'm sure that if I examined my decidedly dusty archives of times I deliberately fucked them up because they expected me to pamper them like my mom did, there would be a fair few examples.

This is maddening. Fortunately(?), it only seems to happen with work e-mails and......it's ALWAYS the men that do it. Dude, seriously, your project will be gathering dust while you're not answering my questions. Good luck with meeting that delivery date.
