I just need some support - can’t keep doing thisYou cannot discharge alimony or child support in bankruptcy. The attorneys fees maybe. | /r/Divorce_Men | 28/07/26 03:08 AM
I just need some support - can’t keep doing thisNot sure if they are married, the woman was married to a bum, but they both have kids intermingled, so it's a real relationship. She bought his family home in upstate NY and they live in it. | /r/Divorce_Men | 28/07/26 03:06 AM
I just need some support - can’t keep doing thisI know a guy who knocked up and married an older woman in northern California around 2000. She's been filing contempts against him for 20 years. He can't pay it, so bang, another contempt, and they all carry attorneys fees. Luckily he's good with the ladies and found one that's cool and rich and everything is in her name. At some point tou have to just give up and acknowledge there's not much you can do. If you don't have the money you don't have the money. | /r/Divorce_Men | 28/07/26 02:55 AM

I don’t know what to do anymore..Your thread is entitled "I don't know what to do anymore." There's only 1 thing to do and you know what it is. The longer you wait the worse it will get and the higher the probability you will end up in jail. How will that work for your daughter? I will draw a metaphor for you. It's as if you are morbidly obese and asking everyone what to do. You eat better and exercise. There's no hack. You have take on the unpleasantness and deal with it and get to the other side. | /r/Divorce_Men | 13/07/26 06:42 PM
Difficulty finding a lawyerAs a lawyer myself, it will help if you present yourself as someone who is going to be reasonable to work with. Don't throw out terms like covert narcissist to them, it's really not relevant. Also, lots of these lawyers are looking to essentially plead the case out...make a deal and move on. If you anticipate a high conflict scenario, make sure you get someone who actually litigates and takes cases to trial. Of course those will be pricier. | /r/Divorce_Men | 01/07/26 08:31 PM

My [40m] 5 year marriage to my wife [40F] just blew up and my wife ended up in jail and I don't know what to do.Sir, Couple of things; There is nothing to salvage relationship wise, so get those thoughts out of your head immediately. The relationship is over. Forever. You are overwhelmed, it's reasonable. Let a lawyer lay out options for you. You are not in a mental position to make wise decisions. A lot of divorce attorneys also have a criminal practice. That's the type of attorney I would be looking for. Speak through an attorney as much as possible, to your ex, police, court, social services, etc... ye… | /r/Divorce_Men | 28/06/26 02:37 AM
Did your wife ask you for couples therapy or ask you to seek individual therapy?I have never once, either in real life oe online, heard of an instance of couples therapy working and turning a problematic relationship into a happy one. By the time one of the parties believes couples therapy is necessary, the relationship is too far gone. Someone is already checked out. | /r/Divorce_Men | 20/06/26 04:21 PM

Has anyone come across this situation and if so what did you do?I don't think it's black and white. I'm just saying if I was her lawyer I would be arguing it is not contempt. Hold harmless means any losses incurred by you are to be reimbursed, not it is impossible to accrue losses in the first place. You still have to a) prove and b) collect your losses. You can certainly file a contempt, it wouldn't be frivolous. There is no breach until a payment has been missed so either way you have a credit issue. Again, exact wording is important, a lot of agreements h… | /r/Divorce_Men | 25/05/26 03:09 PM
Has anyone come across this situation and if so what did you do?Lawyer here. "She is responsible" for payments and her being ordered to make the monthly mortgage payment are not the same thing. Contempt requires non compliance of a clear and unequivocal order. So the exact wording is important. From what you described, I dont think she is clearly being ordered to make the payments. She has the option to let it go delinquent and deal with the consequences. I think if you can prove that she has the ability to pay but just chose not to, you will be far more lik… | /r/Divorce_Men | 24/05/26 05:51 PM

3 years removed from divorce, it’s like the woman I knew died.It goes beyond not being focused on what your ex is doing. One thing I really tried to change about my outlook was to stop burning calories over things I had no control over. You have absolutely zero control over this situation. The catharsis you seek is not attainable. As an aside, this mentality has improved my professional life quite a bit. | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/03/26 02:15 AM
Anyone sue their ex outside of family court?Bro, I'm a lawyer too. Stop digging. Anything after the divorce maybe. Potential legal claims are part of the financial dosclosure, so no, orter than fraud on the court most likely any conduct during the divorce is foreclosed. In my jx, there is case law that allows for a pro se litigant who is an attorney to collect legal fees where is would otherwise be awarded. So...that would most certainly apply in a contempt action. But that's family court. | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/03/26 02:56 AM

Honest questionIf you mean a separation agreement ok, but my understanding is that a post nuptual agreement is only enforceable if it is contemplation of maintaining the marriage. The post refers to after you were married, not after you split up. | /r/Divorce_Men | 03/12/25 09:08 PM
Men who’ve gone through it all - what advice would you give yourself a year before this process started? In addition to this, make less money. Seriously. Do not work overtime or anything like that. If you are entrepreneur/business owner, you might need more than a year to set the stage with a bad year or two. Take up an expensive hobby as a pretext for money disappearing. Golf. Gambling. Depends on your financial profile. Cool it with the vacations, dining out and other discretionary spending on the marraige/family. You will be held to the lifestyle established during the marriage. I think all that… | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/11/25 12:39 AM
Divorce over dishesThere is no such thing as 50/50. It's an illusory concept. Both parties need to reasonably contribute a fair share to the relationship with the absence of contempt or bitterness about it to have a chance of it working. One party might contribute a little more, one a little less. That's OK. One might add more value while expending less physical effort. That's OK if it ok between the parties. An exact mathematic split of responsibilities is for divorced parents, not a married couple. Have you ever… | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/11/25 03:28 PM
