Slowly and over time recognize the beliefs held in your mind that add up to 'hating' yourself and try to see the actual truth. They are a finite subset of your overall thoughts and based in lies you were told as a child. It's a difficult road but very doable. I spent 8 years exploring my self-loathing and am still battling these ancient beliefs and automatic responses. But the relief I've found by looking honestly at them, shining a light on them and seeing where they came from has made a world …

The 'depression' you feel from standing up for yourself like this is small compared to the long term 'dread' one feels when they don't.

So, you read the whole thread then, right? All 20 or so of the comments I made? There's several where I talk to the mods there and then several where I talk to their white nights. In all I tried to be even handed but would get accused of having low standards or have the conversation turn into some examination of voting patterns without ever having my points addressed which were pretty consistent. Never once did I get a sense that any of the SRS folks were willing to take responsibility for creat…

Totally agreed. They cannot stand kindness, level headed discussion or logic. Yesterday a couple of the SRS mods were in a r/modnews thread and the thunder that came down on them was wonderful. dozens and dozens of people challenging their reasoning and calling them out for their tactics and games. I felt awesome not because they were downvoted to oblivion but because they were finally subjected, by a group of reasonable mod-type people, to their own medicine and were exposed for the empty shell…

Good for you. I agree that you not engage them. They do it for a reaction and to then shit all over the place. In that, they remind me 100% of the circlejerk crowd and you end up regretting the interaction no matter what tact you take. Just downvote and move on. They are a rotten piece of reddit that feeds on your reaction without which they rot even further and die.

Understood but that never stops me from discussing this issue in the subreddits I love like r/MRA or r/politics. I have enough karma to burn some off if need be so i can express myself from the heart and speak to the issues that I feel are important. I've had a couple of these types of missives get destroyed by the ron paul army but its a small price to pay to be able to discuss an issue that means a lot to me. Thanks for the comment :)

Agreed. I'm not advocating downvote parties against I know you're not...kinda like when someone is selling bongs they're not advocating pot usage :) I'm just offering another viewpoint to the people that get wrapped up in these flame wars, these trollings and these type of downvote parties, that there is another way to look at such shit and the possibility that you could NOT take part in these games that these awful trolls try to engage you in. r/againstmensrights is there to drag you down to a …

One thing I like about the much maligned r/politics is that the subreddit doesn't give a fuck about downvote brigades. It gets hit constantly by floods from r/libertarian, r/ronpaul, r/conservative - it's survived calls to action from the racist subreddits, redstate.com and any number of scumbag groups that think downvoting changed opinions - L-fucking-O-fucking-L! But r/politics don't give a fuck. It shrugs off the downvote parties and just keeps on being massively liberal. Hell right now, it i…

Hey mensrights? You did it. She was told to take a hike and using her taking time off for her <rolls eyes> 'husband' is subterfuge for CBS trying to have her gracefully exit while trying to save what is a failure of a show.

Yes, yes there is dishonesty. If you're gonna do downvote parties announce them or your being dishonest.
/r/MensRights02/07/11 07:47 PM
1

Let me be clear. YOU ARE ENTITLED to go argue and put mother fuckers in their place. But when you drag a crosspost over which becomes a call to action, everyone loses. Discourse is lost, arguing is over, people's comments are censored (negative 10 'hides' the comment) and you lose by showing that you never intended to have a conversation. And the truth always wins. But not this way. This is meeting dishonesty with more dishonesty.
/r/MensRights02/07/11 07:34 PM
4

Wow, nice justification. For the record, I think you guys (r/mensrights) are doing great work and I am proud of this subreddit. I am not impressed with crosspost downvote parties. That is a child's way of winning a debate that they think they can't win. Don't take shit so personally and win with good arguments.

You know, I wish we could live in your reality. Sadly we have to put up with dumb bitches in all our man stuff fucking all sort of things up with their feminism! dishonest is the poster across there who is claiming we are rapists Can't both be dishonest? im disturbed you are complaining we are over there defending ourselves but in no way calling the person who is spreading lies that actually warrant the intervention . we are entitled to comment in our defence Comment yes. Downvote no. And the fact is I completely agree with the idea and tenor of this post but... What these smarmy crossposts do is dishonest. Do the persons in that other thread know the crosspost has been created? Do they know the thread is gamed. Very dishonest. [Please don't] Create mass downvote or upvote campaigns. So creating a crosspost to form a downvote party on someone you disagree with is good form? R/libertarian does this to r/politics. R/atheism does this to r/religion. I'm sure r/feminism does this as well? In all instances it seems like a weak ploy to use when your losing an argument. The newest tactic for people that do crossposts is to report people that they are arguing with to r/reportthespammers in an attempt to get them banned. All of it seems so childish. Case study: Time Magazine cover story of women[...] I hear everything your saying and you have a point for sure but... What's the end game of illuminating this? What would you have changed? I'm not being sarcastic. Tell me what you would like to see happen differently? To me this feels like 'low hanging fruit' of the whole men's rights world and not worth attacking. I think the issue is that the media were eager to trumpet this naieve woman So it's the author's job to tear her down? They don't seem to have been so keen to highlight her decision to run for the border as soon as she realised what she had gotten herself into. So you're saying they should write articles not about her heroism but about how, when faced with her own murder, sought asylum in America like a 'coward'? Would that be what you want to see? This is about as big of a stretch as I have ever seen an article make to twist its own views onto something wholly unrelated. Americans are directly (ATF providing guns to the cartel) and indirectly (we are the demand for their supply) responsible for the horrific violence in Mexico. Knowing that and then picking a single story from the mess and applying to it a men's rights idea where you pick on the female who after trying to make a difference had to leave because of death threats? How does th…

Sexually mature - doubtful. Able to be sexual - definitely. Especially in America where we keep teenagers in an infantile state until they turn 18 (no contracts, no decision making, no rights, no voting) we can't expect them to have the mindset to handle a relationship with a 30 year old. Now in other countries where teens are afforded more responsibility, this might not be so bad, but in the USA where children are children till 18, this can really fuck with the head of this kid and ruin future …

The only instinctual reaction is: Niiiiiiiiice. There are other instinctual reactions like: That poor kid. or Fuck her for taking liberties and breaking the social trust or there's the reaction of someone who has met many rape victims, both boy and girl and sees how it can devastate longterm: FUUUUUUUUU Once you realize that rape and molestation beget that same act being perpetrated by victim later on, the joke isn't funny anymore and nor is the instinctual reaction.

Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. But does that excuse the childish 'high-fiving' going on in the subreddit. What about all the dudes really raped and unable to tell anyone because of fear of being told to 'suck it up' or 'get over it'. These childish 'nicceeee' comments do nothing but further stigmatize the tons of men who were raped and feel like they can't come forward or they'll be mocked like this. But please take into account that reddit itself, its algorithm accounts for some of these downvotes. http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/6mn8e/what_happened_to_the_algorithm_yesterday_of/c04an4e They manipulate it to effect spammers although I really don't understand the whole thing. Wow, congrats. You and HarlanEllison or whatever his name is have helped create an impenetrable fortress for your views that no one with opposing views can come close to making a point. I appreciate you taking the time to explain why your downvoting is okay in the instance but really, wouldn't taking someone to zero and then discussing it with them a much more logical approach than to call it some putrid lie like 'ideological spam'?

You disgust me. You know, it took balls for raven42 to come into your thread about your article and share honestly a view that illuminates the problem. The fucking least you could do is show some respect and NOT act and treat a misguided dude the way the rest of this angry society treats him. This 'scorn' you lay, this nastiness you perpetrate only worsens the problems you so deftly describe. Welp, when the rubber hits the road and the shit hits the fan what we are looking at in misogyny and the opposite dudeogyny really are just smoke screens for the single biggest culprit in ANY type of hate/hate relationship like mensrights vs 2xc or Reps/Dems, sports, even Apple vs. PC: It's turning out that a LOT of people have a certain amount of inner hatred, self-loathing and that amount goes up with the amount of dysfunctional family that was experienced in childhood, so the more fucked up f…

Someday someone's gonna have to stop perpetuating the violence...let it be me, a man that has watched both his mother and father attack the other and had plenty of violence come his own way. the rest of your life I think we do a disservice to our 'future selves' in making assumptions like this. Maybe we really are moving away with long term monogamy. Especially in a place like America where as a society we don't really have to procreate so desperately. How bout we start doing sports-like contracts instead of marriages that have specific time limits, early out penalties, etc. (Unmarried)

What you think this subreddit is and also what you think it was intended for are contrary to the truth of what the subreddit really is. Look around. There is a lot of commiserating and a lot of 'bad women' articles and it has been that way since inception and people come and go Don Quixote on it all and right back it goes to being a place where some people come just to bitch and circle jerk. Let's not give ammo to the femos Well now, that seems incredibly petty to me. I don't have much problem with 'woman does bad thing' articles because this literally is a place men come to blow off steam or feel they are among friends despite a society that has turned them into the bad guy. 'Bad Women' articles can help give a guy perspective and maybe start realizing he is not evil incarnate. And so there is gonna be a certain amount of 'circle jerk' and a bit of commiserating because this is a s…

I'm sorry you walked into a shitstorm but, not every email group, website or forum HAS TO BE some democratically balanced entity where perfect Socratic debates are shaped from two opposing sides. This can also be a forum for sharing, for talking, discussing, agreeing and circle-jerking if that's what they want. This an under discussed topic and sometimes people just need a forum to know they aren't going crazy.

And these days the old standard replies for parents that sucked, no longer holds water: Stop looking back and get over it. Just get over it. Just look forward and forget the past. These days the modern psychiatry and self help successes all hinge on going back and understanding exactly how that lack of parenting and the ensuing lack of important lessons missed at certain ages (for latch key kids, ages 8-15 is an essential time to go back and re-learn some bad lessons learned or missed) So, as it…

The science / psychiatry on sexual abuse is changing very rapidly. what was once considered 'boys being boys' is now appearing for what it really is: manipulating a child in an extremely awkward time in their life. My own story is often laughed at as being minor but as I head into my forties I see the damage subtle abuse can have. My mother hated my father and thus a vacuum formed in the family, a vacuum where a husband should have been. I filled that void emotionally and in the 'take care of st…
