I fucking hate this look. It made me loathe sex during my teenage years. But I appreciate the accurate description. I think the read was a bit too long in places, but I felt all of it.

Thanks for your encouragement. Normally, I love doing stuff by myself (like going to a restaurant or museum, for example). I guess I’m just discouraged due to the time of the year - and because the spa is kind of an intimate place. But I’ll try and do it (or some other great activity) nonetheless :)

„Unfortunately, our website is currently unavailable in most European countries.“ — oof. If you could copy-paste the text into the thread, that’d be amazing!

I thought about treating myself to a spa visit Friday afternoon/night. I’m a bit afraid it’s going to be full of couples around me and that this might make me feel shitty. But let’s see.

Implying that the woman is the one to serve the meals?

Pretty sure “Cola” by CamelPhat is about roofies. The artists made half-assed remarks about it in some interview, downplaying it, but I’m still convinced. Disgusting and sad (cause I used to like the song before I actually pondered on the lyrics for longer than three minutes).

Alright that makes sense. I wonder that too

Reminder that looking put-together, wearing beautiful dresses and always having one’s nails and make-up done apparently don’t automatically speak of respectable qualities. Watch out for the halo effect, with men and women alike!

What are her reasons for disliking him?

Why is SCA toxic? Not that familiar with it yet, but I would be glad to be warned.

Thank you for this. I try hard every day to be a better version of myself then I was the day before. And yet, every now and then, there is a voice coming from within, arguing that I am not worthy of having good friends, or great experiences - or wholesome men who add value to my life. But I’m trying to prove that voice wrong.

It’s a joke about scammers. First pets name, mother‘s maiden name are all subjects of security questions for online accounts and such. 🙃

I hope she realizes she needs therapy, or else even if she succeeds to leave her current incapable manchild, she‘s going to keep picking men like this over and over again.

A small-ish but important thing that I love is when people (and especially men) make an effort to pick me up from a train station/bus station when we meet. (For context, lots of people my age don’t necessarily own a car in my country and public transportation is a very common and established means of getting around. Being picked up by car if someone had one would be rather natural/less special.) In my previous relationships, it used to hurt me a lot when I noticed he didn’t even bother to walk 5…

That is very true. I have noticed that more often than not, this is the role I assume in conversations myself. In fact, actually being listened to like that happens so rarely (and especially with men) that when it does, it almost feels wrong and unnatural to me. I mostly notice this when I engage with female friends though. There’s still much work for me to do to be confidently able to occupy the space in the conversation I am entitled to. :) We deserve to be listened to and seen as the unique p…

Not entirely like that. I guess you could use this as a rule of thumb, but there are always exceptions. One of the worst men I had to deal lately with actually did have a sister, whom he appeared to love very much. Yet he treated/spoke about women he was sexually interested in with the utmost disrespect (making lewd remarks, cat calling and probably worse things that I don’t even know about). The Madonna/whore complex was real with this one for sure. Luckily I was never romantically involved wit…

I love how positive and respectfully phrased your post/inner monologue is. I can really get behind what you wrote. Thank you for sharing.

Insist on getting your gas money. Like „Hey, I prefer you giving me the gas money instead of inviting me for food later, like we agreed on. Here’s my PayPal“ or whatever. No need to put up with being set aside like that. And I believe FDS absolutely is applicable to friendships too. Don’t let people suck the life out of you, neither romantically nor platonically.

Here is a nice book review: https://harmoniapositivemindset.com/2018/11/29/women-who-love-too-much/ A more lengthy summary, of which I would especially recommend the section on Key Ideas #5 and #6 dealing with recovery from "loving too much"/being drawn to bad men and gaining a feeling of self-worth: https://lifeclub.org/books/women-who-love-too-much-robin-norwood-review-summary Hope that helps :)

If you’re up for a book recommendation, I would really recommend looking into „Women who love too much“ by Robin Norwood. This one really sheds light on why some women fall in love with men who are objectively bad for them; but subjectively may seem like an exciting soulmate whom they can fix ( and other myths). Even though I have luckily never experienced abusive relationships in the past, I still learned a lot from it (and I’m only half through). If you’d like to, I‘ll try to summarize what I’…

What would be the best way to reply to it then without giving away too much, but also without seeming suspicious?

What I had to learn as well, and still learn, is that a man doing one or two considerate acts towards you isn’t courtesy, it’s basic human decency. Him calling you before the date himself isn’t a treat or a miracle, it’s the bare minimum, so it’s to be treated as such. Please realize that this feeling like you have lost what could have been a really good friend, it’s not reality, but the illusion of what you wanted him to be. From what you’ve written, he hasn’t shown any qualities of a really go…
