Right, I was pretty vague about it. There’s absolutely no mistreatment but slacking on normal routines he once had like working out, cleaning, appointments, etc. He’s burnt out on his job and has been feeling rather low about it. I was concerned that the mask might have been slipping as we have been exclusive for about 5 months now, but also want to be sensitive to the fact that we all go through stressful times.

Yep, this 100%. My story is somewhat similar. I purchased my childhood home on my own, insert fiancée-now-husband wanting to help with repairs/renovations. The renovations were certainly needed, so he did this and I paid for most of the materials. Half way through our engagement he pressured me into adding him to the deed, since he had helped so much for free on the house, it was "our home" together, etc. Naively, I agreed. Looking back, he didn't want the house to be considered pre-marital prop…

No you didn’t come off harshly, you were very straight to the point which I appreciate. Tone doesn’t translate over text so sometimes I have a sarcastic edge that can be misinterpreted. In other words, it’s all good! Your comment is so informational and well written. This is not discussed or taught to us as young women, or at least that is my experience. It’s definitely true that age does not equate to maturity, such as the title of husband or father does not mean those roles will be fulfilled. …

Yikes when you put it that way, there’s no excuse or reasoning. Right, I was thinking I would have someone who is more mature since I grew up pretty fast and have always felt like an “old soul.” Doesn’t mean I want a partner to treat me like we are in the 50s.

Wow I relate to the post you’re referring to so much, the shame/guilt within myself of becoming this woman with accepting such BS and also the ignorance of my husband of what an actual healthy adult/partner is. I have made lots of previous plans but the farthest I’ve gone is staying in a hotel for a few days. I have been saving an insane amount of money, if I move forward with a divorce I will have to pay him for part of MY house (poor choices, long story). I have had that book in my Amazon cart…

That’s a very well thought out plan! I like the idea of separation being motivation, not punishment. I have suggested separation in the past and he has responded with saying we might as well end it then. Yet when I had asked for a divorce in the past, he was 110% committed to do whatever was needed. It might be time to bring the separation up again and if he’s not willing to do it, I’ll have my answer.

I never thought of it like that. Counseling sometimes feels like getting tossed a life raft when the ship is already underwater.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
