Yeah, and all that is the bare minimum to get started, let alone the staggering amount of work it takes to obtain a home and (now) get married. Not only has life been robbed of the incentives to have children, it's been made a Herculean feat of effort to have and keep a family.

This pretty much perfectly hits the nail on the head. I'm in my thirties and haven't married or had kids, and thus see no point in constantly accumulating wealth beyond my own needs. I can comfortably live alone and play video games and hang out with friends on a part-time job, and have passed on multiple promotions and job offers because I'd be working sixty hours a week or taking on difficult responsibilities. What's the point? (Incidentally, this particular company is struggling because nobod…

This is pretty much exactly my experience word for word. I hate to acknowledge it as a deep cynicism, but it's been proven trustworthy 100% of the time when I've become optimistic or simply examined every relationship around me. Once one hits their early thirties, it becomes almost impossible to value the presence of another over a comfortable and ultimately happy life when weighing the pros and cons. Neither option is perfect, but at least one is guaranteed contentment when embraced.

This is me to a fault. I've begun some hard self improvement in every area, and it's turning out great, but being in my mid-thirties, I feel like it's too late to even start, and it makes me depressed. I spent many years in the "never want to get married" crowd and can't bring myself to do it anymore, even if there really is no light at the end of the tunnel. If there's no chance of family or love at some point in the near-ish future, I'll spiral toward an early grave from nihilistic depression.…

This is kind of like that "needing experience to get experience" paradox in IT jobs. Whoever solves one of these problems will probably solve the other by accident.

Yes. It's one of the reasons I've given up on dating. I'd have to turn into someone I truly don't want to be, and I'd rather just be happy alone than have to string someone along, play constant psychological games, so on and so forth. I know the person I want to be in a relationship isn't what creates long-lasting relationships and families, so I'd just rather not have them. Not only that, but I don't want to sell my soul just to qualify risking everything down the road with divorce, accusations…

Honestly I think most people have this mild fantasy of dating someone slightly clingy or jealous until it actually happens. What you think would be flattering turns out to be an incredible, dramatic hassle.

I'd rather just live life and be happy. If Ms. Perfect falls out of the sky and into my lap, then great. If not, that's a few less broken leg bones to think about. Life is too short and has too much greatness to waste it all on endlessly chasing people and playing social games.

I love my mom very much. We're close. She understands my choice to avoid relationships and dating altogether, but still believes I should try to find a nice church girl, and that faith and mutual understanding will win in the end. I'm slightly less optimistic. It kind of kills me inside not to give my parents grandchildren, but I'm not about to trade away freedom and happiness in today's romantic market.

100% describes me. After throwing away most of my twenties on trying and trying with multiple people and finally getting engaged to someone with a three-letter psychological affliction (thought I could deal with it), I realized that I was happier just being alone. All that time and money and emotion spent getting to the prologue with a lifetime partner. I'm not doing that again. I'm 30's, male, reddish...blackish...something. I don't know. I used to be hardcore blue in all respects: I wanted a wife and family, wanted to do something great for society, wanted to achieve and fall hard in love. Came very close to marrying someone with a three-letter psychological affliction, and went from being mostly positive and happy to considering self-harm. The freedom from that relationship was a high that lasted for a long time. There was no red pill rage, no anger phase. I don't ha…

That's what I hate about all this: The vast majority of the people working at these companies don't hold the views of those at the top who don't seem to mind letting the whole company tank. I genuinely feel for those people because most are just trying to make a living. However, a customer independent of the company has to make their own choice. Continuing to support a company such as Starbucks, Netflix, or Gillette through their asinine statements gradually compounds the problem. It's why we're…

For all the shaming guys get for loving games, I legitimately can't remember a period of time with any girlfriend that wasn't suffocated by worry or stress or drama. I mean, yeah, there were good times, but stepping back and looking in from the outside, they were like 10% of the relationship, and the other 90% was having to drive across town to pick them up, having to go to family get-togethers, having to explain why she was prettier than such-and-such girl, having to calm her down after being o…

It's funny because if they put 5% of that effort into just making the guy happy, the guy would stay and be willing to compromise to keep a healthy and positive relationship. Instead, all they (or we) get is emotional manipulation and a bitter fight to claim whatever few freedoms one can keep in a relationship until it goes down in flames or just barely limps past the marriage finish line, which turns the war into a contract. Oooor.... Video games. The stereotype is real for a reason.

Actually, researching the movie now, I see the director was purposefully ambiguous about the ending. I always just assumed she'd died and never considered that she may be dreaming. I mean, I'll be honest, I'm probably in the minority here in really liking the movie. It's extremely problematic and kind of a waste of a major historical event to focus so much on a four-day romance, but I enjoy it as simple entertainment -- and James Horner's soundtrack is pretty amazing. My post was worded poorly in an effort to be succinct. You're right in that companies wish to expand their audience, but I sincerely doubt that's what's going on concerning this subject. What you mention is a meshing of two genres to grow a fanbase, and that's far different from what's happening with games. It isn't like Grand Theft Auto incorporating basketball and dating to attract those crowds; it's people saying that Zelda is sexist because its protagonist is white and male (that is literall…

It's just unfortunate that they've stooped to letting political correctness be the only reason to get the game rather than good business practices or superior game design. EA has obviously completely given up on making video games and is in the process of making video experiences that are incidentally priced like a AAA game and aren't even close to complete without four $30 expansions (all of which make up what would otherwise be any AAA title), plus pay-to-win micro transactions. Anywhere two or more men exist will be invaded by women. I really think that's one reason they abhor (single player) video games and sex dolls; they can't be invaded if the lone practitioner doesn't participate with them. That being said, all someone has to do is start an unofficial, unrecognized organization like the Scouts -- even if just a single troop. Much like MGTOW, they can't invade and destroy what "doesn't exist."

(Avatar was pretty awful too, though it was hilarious to find a paper insert in the DVD case talking about saving trees, though I guess that isn't a social justice thing.)

It's like the bachelor tax; it'd have to be worse by orders of magnitude for marriage to be worth it only on a financial level, and even then it wouldn't be worth it emotionally. You'd also think Florida has enough actual, destructive problems to worry about before men watching porn.

I'm not really surprised porn causes these things, because to modern day psychologists and researchers everything causes these things; it's how their industry stays alive -- people being told their perfectly normal lifestyle is damaging them in magical, intangible ways, and only they have the cure. Meanwhile things that are truly destructive on a social and personal level (i.e. Feminism) run wild and unchecked. It fits the bill better for those symptoms than consumption of pornography.

Ditto. I kinda depressed myself out of trying after reading endless horror stories about applying, interviewing, and the destructive work atmosphere in general. It seems like every step of the game is rigged to get something out of newbies and then spit them out before they climb the ladder. r/programmerhumor is hilarious, but for the love of God don't read the comment sections on posts about the job itself.

Maybe The Last Jedi is backlash from an industry threatened by men. When one makes any baseless, nonsensical assertion, you could just as easily state the opposite and it be every bit as valid.

Nah. The staging for that race becomes a bunch of people that are artificially 4" taller, and then the demands evolve to any guy who is 6'6" or more money or higher standards for cars or a much nicer living area, etc. I'm out of that race. You could feed the Beast of Want forever and it'll just continue to grow, never satisfied. As for me, I'm happy playing video games and not fulfilling anyone else's desires.

Independent media is where it's at: Indie movies, indie games, indie music, self-published books. And I don't mean this stylized garbage churned out by studios in the indie genre, I mean genuine independent creators who must be searched out. Sure, like in life, there's a lot of crap to wade through, but when it's good it's ten times better than mainstream productions.

Exactly. Same with music. There are a few truly great love songs out there, but in general it just generates soulless albums without effort. Songs default to love without thought.

It's actually suggested that masturbating (well, specifically ejaculating) is linked to lower risk of prostate cancer. https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/844820 It's one of those things, though, where everybody has their own research on all sides. If anybody knew for sure there'd be tons of articles announcing the fact.

It's interesting.... After reading through this, I started thinking about this and considering what life would be like through a divorce, kids taken away, etc. Then suddenly I remembered I'll never have to experience that, and felt like a major (non-existent) problem was just...taken away. It's funny how many times that has happened since my last and final breakup.

Nobody (in their right mind) walked into a marriage thinking "This isn't the right one." That's always my response to people who claim you just have to find the right one; sure, they might be right at that moment, but I seriously doubt the commonplace divorce began with "lol Let's get married and see what happens."

Borderline Personality Disorder. A relationship with a Borderline was enough to ruin me on relationships for a lifetime. I don't believe AWALT, but it still doesn't matter because it's not worth risking ending up with a Borderline -- and there's no way to tell until it's too late.

At some point soon (perhaps already) companies are going to see that -- in the long run -- it is far cheaper and less risky just to pay the penalty and see it as a price for maintaining operations, or like some kind of performance insurance. It's much like the bachelor tax.... No, it's exactly like the bachelor tax: Unless they make that tax tens of thousands of dollars per year, it's still far less costly financially and emotionally than being married. I'm not even saying I prefer this scenario…

It just occurred to me eight hours later that that Cthulhu thing is an elephant haha. That's the only part of the image I found really confusing. But I don't really know.

I say give them what they want and don't "discriminate:" Create a team of people 50% female, 50% male (or, you know, one of each of these imaginary genders), and include every possible race and a significant portion of disabled people. The Los Angeles Social Justice Warriors. That's the one single NFL game I would watch before it was stopped after one quarter due to nonstop death and dismemberment.

TL;DR - Good load times except for logos -> main menu. This version is a blend of the original and enhanced versions. The initial load time (from Bethesda logos to main menu) is really long for some reason. After that, area loading is between relatively normal and pretty fast, and loading interiors from an exterior is a brief pause on a black screen. The initial loading screen must compensate for the rest of the game's load times, and it's a small price to pay to have a good port on the go becau…
