Remove yourself from the situation? GROW UP. Really man, stop the self-pity. Every one of us here has been or is currently going through this shit. It’s hard. But one of your first thoughts is bailing? You don’t think you can do it? You can, and will. Your kids need you. Get a job, talk to a lawyer and do not even consider moving out until you absolutely have to, and go from there.

I’m 50/50 with twin 3 year olds. We essentially do 3 days each with rotating Saturdays. My thoughts on your situation: Two weeks is a long time, too long. It’s hard to do that solo for that period of time, and inversely I wouldn’t want to go 2 weeks without seeing my kids. You need to sleep more. Do you need to get up at the ass crack of dawn? Push it to 5 if you can. And finally- you need to talk to your dad. You are drowning and he’s off doing whatever. His own new family? Great but also fuck …

Do not move out. It will be used against you.

Get help for your addictions, and get a second job.

A couple ways. One, I have kids I need to do it for. And two, she was cruel enough to me for the last 6-9 months that finally getting away felt like an escape for awhile.

Hell no man, do not do this. You need your own lawyer STAT

You can’t just move on after 20 years. I’m 6 months out of a 5 year marriage and it’s fucking hard. Getting easier but it was 5 years not 20. Goddamn. I’m just a few years younger than you, but I’ve had all the same thoughts, just the other day going through my phone and deleting old photos (many of her/her and I) I almost had a breakdown. I need to take this advice myself, that people on this sub often give, but time to get some exercise and distract yourself a bit.

I’m with you brother. Not even a year out from when my ex dropped the hammer.

I feel for you. I was living that life until just a month ago, it’s rough. And even today, which is my kids birthday, I do not have them. I did see them this AM, but then my ex was unhappy I brought them back 20min later than SHE wanted(not that I agreed to) so she cursed me out. Worked an overnight shift so I’m just waking up, alone and with an empty house. Happy fucking Thanksgiving.

I tried to do the same thing, was willing to try therapy, sacrifice and whatever else. We had none of the major issues (infidelity, abuse, drugs/alcohol). She went to one therapy session before noping out of there. I read recently that women initiate 70% of divorces and when they are college-educated women it rises to 90%. Only saving grace for me is she makes a ton more money than I do. It sucks regardless, I have two kids I’ll see 50% less now. I don’t blame you for trying to take control and …

Fucking Instagram man. The amount of shit my STBEX compared me to via other peoples IG posts & stories really blows my mind. And this is a very educated, successful woman. This whole thread hits so close to home (well, maybe not a couple of the replies).

Everyone’s situation varies I obviously don’t know the details of yours, good luck man.

I would not do it, personally. I’m going through this right now myself. I need to be within 10-15 minutes of them, but I am also doing 50/50. I too have parents an hour away who it would benefit me to live closer to. Whether it’s a better option for you isn’t the question. Is it a better option for your kids? That’s what you should be thinking about.

Oh man, I sympathize with this completely. My ex did the same, for years. This whole post has helped me as well.

I feel like this is what’s going to happen to me with my ex, going through the process now. She was so angry and disrespectful that I spent all my energy in defense mode. Yet now, while we’re in the midst of getting divorced she’s told me a few times she still loves me.

She ripped into me after our meeting today so I am done with that. No more.

Luckily we went to mediation today, made headway, and then when we got home she was a horrendous, condescending, belittling you-know-what. So I said fuck it, throw the deal in the trash.

This sounds like where my situation is headed. Not surprising.

It will be 3x when I’m back at work full-time(soon). It’s my kids mom man, I was trying to be as ruthless as possible but she clearly did not appreciate that. I still have major misgivings about it, but literally everyone I’ve talked to has told me I’m being an idiot.

We’ve both had a consult with a lawyer. I just scheduled another meeting, which is taking place prior to our next mediation.
