I would imagine that it's probably because the test is a medical procedure and requires consent from both parents. I've seen this come up occasionally when people suggest that fathers should be able to do a test without the mother knowing about it.

There's an old law on the books in MA, where I used to live, that you just reminded me of. Basically, a friend of a friend was married to a woman for ten years. They had four children. Eventually, he found out she'd been sleeping with his best friend the entire time (who was also best man at the wedding), and that three of the four children were not his. He was forced to move out and his best friend moved in, and he still had to pay child support on all four children. The law says that if a woma…

Men are required to at the end of divorce: pay for child support with little rights to the children, pay alimony, child support generally is used as alimony to support the mother, pay all legal fees, sometimes buy vehicles for the exwife, pay for outstanding bills, etc. Male here, recently received judgment on my divorce case. My ex-wife and I both hired and paid for our own attorneys using our own money, agreed upon how to split finances ahead of time, and I have no standing financial obligatio…

There was a guy who did an IAMA last week (I think) that ended up taking a plea deal for sodomizing his young sister, which was actually something his mother did and managed to get him blamed for it. He was ordered into a treatment program and had group therapy with people that have been accused/convicted of sex crimes. He maintained his innocence, and they fucking kicked him out. That almost caused him to go to jail for violating his probation. Apparently it's a big no-no to say you didn't do a…

The point is she's acting like it's only men that are the problem. "A pissed off husband and a lawyer are not going to show mercy." I guess women are gentle, merciful creatures, and would never do such a thing, right?

She's getting absolutely hammered. And rightfully so: Most men will not have any problem throwing the mother of their children under the bus for kicks but God forbid a woman does it to keep her children. An attorney on the other side is not going to have pity on a mother with children. They want to win the case and will do whatever it takes. No it means that I know a pissed off husband and a lawyer are not going to show mercy. They will do whatever it takes to win the case lies included. Again. …

Once your name is out there, you can publish pretty much anything, even the garbage that Glenn Beck sells as 'literature.' This is one of the reasons many people make books out of their successful blogs (or closely related things). It gets their name in the publishing industry.

This looks like a case of a mother absolutely hell-bent on making someone burn. Yes, it's illegal, but I'd hardly argue that sex is damaging to a seventeen year old. "Learning disability" is ambiguous, so unless he's mentally retarded, I don't see the issue. She's really just pissed off because her friend had sex with her son. I can understand the anger, but her determination to see her punished is just silly.

Often times, people that get formally accused can't afford to defend themselves and plead out in order to get a reduced sentence. When push comes to shove, it's very difficult for a DA to get a conviction on a he said/she said type case.

In many states, low-level offenders are required to register with the police, but that information isn't available to the general public. It's usually the "likely to re-offend" types that are the ones you can see on a website.

Same in the US. Maybe specific states have harsh laws, but overall you're almost never going to have to register unless convicted.

Just ignore it. She's saying it isn't "fair" to call the woman a liar and it must be proven first. Last time I checked, simply making a statement about someone doesn't require any sort of proof. A formal accusation is different. She's applying legal standards to normal conversation. The world doesn't work that way. I can call this guy an asshole, and someone else can call the accuser a liar.

"Implied consent" in the event of emergency care means that if someone is passed out, it's assumed they want help. This means that if someone is refusing help--let's say, the Heimlich maneuver--once they pass out, you can help them (it's technically assault and battery if you try to do so while they're still awake). So, clearly, the solution is to wait until they pass out!

http://www.thestar.com/news/article/890839--dimanno-taking-aim-at-a-grieving-dad It's a little unclear, but you may be right. It looks like the judge basically insulted the jury's verdict and made it known that he felt it was the husband's fault. He also denied "victim impact statements," which are apparently fairly routine in cases like this. Apparently the sentence is mandatory life, with a minimum of 25 years before the possibility of parole. The defense attorney thinks this makes the impact …

A recording in a non-public place (and in some states, public) without the consent of all parties is inadmissible as evidence in court. EDIT: Not necessarily "all parties," but rather those that are the target of such evidence.

You run the risk of scaring actual rape victims into not coming forward though. Many women already blame themselves for the rape, if you add the additional fear of being wrong and being charged with a crime and it gets pretty sticky. The way I see it, there are two options. Woman is afraid to come forward and doesn't. Woman makes false rape claim and an innocent man spends time in prison. The second is worse.

Legally, men do not have the right to abandon their children, because courts recognize that children require, and have a right to, resources they are unable to acquire on their own. Courts understand that, as a result, some people are going to have to provide those resources, and that the likeliest people to have do so are the children's legal parent, followed by people who have acted as parents to the children. The alternative is undesirable to governments: having the community provide the reso…

One way to truly resolve the inequality in this scenario is to use government funding to subsidize abortions. And I'm sure you remember the reaction when this was in the health care bill. Holy shit, that was a fucking backlash-and-a-half. It's too bad it will just never happen.
/r/MensRights05/11/10 03:14 PM

A) Because of the way the system is designed, I would insist on being part of the child's life. If the court, for whatever reason, ruled unfairly that I am not allowed to see the child, I would stop payment and move to another country. B) Yes, it's unfair, but there's not much I can do about it. I think both parties should be able to "sign off" on a binding document that will guarantee the woman cannot seek monetary assistance from the man in the event that she wants to keep the child and he doe…

It's really all about context. If it's someone's way of saying "stop bitching and moaning," I don't have a problem with it. I've told a woman before to "nut-up," acknowledging that the phrasing is inappropriate but the meaning is still the same--stop moaning and get your shit together.

Probably the same reason we demonize men for being an independent. A thirty year old woman that specifically chose to concentrate on her career, avoid having a family, and lives by herself is looked upon as independent. A thirty year old guy who hasn't committed to marriage is immature. He's seen as childish and afraid of commitment.

Why only the boy? Because the girls's step-father is a cop. I know it sucks, but we all know damn well why.

I think the Scandinavian countries and a good chunk of Europe grant six months to a year off. EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parental_leave#Europe

So does racial humor, yet any non-white comedian uses it like it is a new, burgeoning, and edgy thing.

My friend is paying about $750 a month or so since the mother refuses to get a job. The worst part is the little girl is about five or six and in school, yet the mother says she doesn't have time. The reality is she can just mooch off of him and her parents (she lives with them). He may end up going to jail because he has two kids with his girlfriend and basically can't afford to also pay for his other kid. In his words, "I feel like a slave." He also is not involved whatsoever in the girl's lif…

It's literally illegal to see someone underage naked or engaging in sexual activity, pursuant to various child abuse laws. I'm going to have to ask you for a source on this. I am fairly certain this is not true.

Well, I haven't seen The Hole, but the topless scene in American Beauty wasn't sexual in any sort of explicit way. It was quite tasteful.

Brooke Shields was thirteen when she did "Pretty Baby" and she spent large portions of the movie topless.

Okay. Maybe I'm confused. That's not pornography. Children/teens can be photographed naked if there is nothing sexual about it. I guess they could argue that intentionally exposing just the breasts is sexual?

I'm not sure I ever explained it to her. I just kind of said "Okay," and continued watching it when she wasn't around. One of many reason's it's now 'ex'.

My ex-wife said that it was because it meant I was fantasizing about someone that isn't her. But that wasn't it--the point of porn is that I don't have to fantasize. It's all right there in front of me.

My ex-wife always had an issue with porn. So I would just watch it when she wasn't around. But she did not like it, didn't want to watch it, and didn't want to hear about it. In hindsight, she was rather stuck up about it. I've dated girls since then that are completely into porn, and it's better that way.

As odd as it sounds, that is exactly it. Two sixteen year olds can have sex all they want, and can probably legally do it in front of other people (I don't see why this would be illegal, but I'm not 100% certain). But if anyone takes a picture, it's a felony.

Yet another story to add to the gigantic list of courts being completely unfavorable towards fathers. EDIT: As much as I want a child or two of my own, things like this make me wary.

The question comes down to consent. Can you truly have consensual sex with a person who has lied to you about key characteristics about their identity? Especially if that lie was solely for the purpose of convincing you to have sex with them... Yes, because no matter what is said, it is still a matter of choice. Just because the choice is based on false information, that doesn't take away the fact that it was consensual. Is it acceptable? Well that's subjective, but in the eyes of the law, it sh…

Well, all it takes is for a woman to regret it and start to decide in her head that it happened differently. It doesn't matter if it's his word versus hers--as soon as the accusation is out there, the guy is fucked.

One more question (I know I've asked a lot): In regards to your age and the desired age range listed for the women you meet, do you message women if you are over the high end of their range? I was looking yesterday, for instance, would come across women that would list something like 23-30, and me almost being 32, I wouldn't message them. Do you just message them anyway if they seem interesting?

It's worked for me before as well. My last girlfriend and I jumped right into it. But the chemistry was palpable, so it was just good for the situation. Although we had been talking for a bit and I think we both kind of knew it was going to be intense. I can see how it wouldn't be necessary if it's a 'light' first meeting of sorts.

What women are into in the ninth grade is quite a bit different than what works when they're thirty. It's probably a good rule of thumb not to use tongue, but not always.

Isn't is true, that there is really no hope for the un-gifted, and this is really just kind of a bragging piece? Nah, there's hope. I've always been an introvert. When I was young I was underweight, and I've been overweight most of my adult life (not obese, but definitely overweight). I've almost always been awkward socially. But that's all changing--I've been hitting the gym a lot, and the results are showing. I've been reading books on psychological topics, as well as seeing a therapist to ove…

PoF isn't a robust or quite as FUN as OkC, but it's got a large user base. I met my last girlfriend on there, and also went on two other dates with girls I met on there (one turned into a second date, then fizzled, and the other didn't go anywhere). Also, as far as overall design goes, PoF looks like amateur crap compared to OkC. But it's actually a decent site, I think.

Not a bad idea. I might apply that filter after the "legally an adult" filter. EDIT: Although, other things have gone through my head: She was ten when my ex-wife and I started dating. She was five when I graduated high school. She's four-years older than my step-daughter (my ex had her when she was sixteen).

Well, if you're in your late 30s, I don't feel so bad. I'm in my early 30s, and last Friday night I spent the whole night making out with a HB8 18yo (I can do it too). I had one friend say I was like a dirty old man, but hey, she's an adult, and it was her idea (she kissed me)

"in case this turns awkward". She'll know EXACTLY what you mean but won't be used to you being the one bringing that up... that's her job. :) So, you tell her you're willing to meet for a lunch date, but feign the awkwardness at going further. Then when lunch goes well, you ask her out on an actual date, which you said you always go for the first date kiss. Do I have that right?

Dude, the thing is: If your ex HAD decided to pull something like that - you would HAVE HAD NO CHOICE. The minute you started dating her seriously, you were putting your entire future in someone else's hands. No, not at all. The girl has a father that is a part of her life and pays child support. Hell, he still does, and was doing so even after we got married. It's not paranoia to want to have some control over one's life. You're obsessing over something that is an incredibly minute possibility.…

I subscribe to the possibility that sometimes it is worth the risk. You may disagree, and I respect that. Despite it not working out in the end, I don't regret marrying her, either.

THIS IS NO JOKE. NEVER date a woman with a child. You WILL pay! While the situation you describe is awful, this advice is retarded. I dated a woman with a child, and eventually married her. We split, and never had any kids of our own, but she would never have pulled shit like that. EDIT: It must really suck to live your life being so fucking paranoid.

There's an old 'presumption' law on the books in MA that states if a married woman has a child, the husband is presumed to be the father if it's not contested within a certain time frame. I know about it because a friend was kind enough to point it out when I told him my wife was pregnant with another man's child. He had a friend that was married for ten years and had four kids. After ten years, he finds out that she'd been sleeping with his Best Man the entire time, and that three of the kids a…
