They downvoted me because I said is not a gender related thing to say something like that, but I can say it because I had experience of it first hand. If I had experienced the opposite I'd probably say the same as the others. The thing is we shouldn't close ourselves in front of others experiences and treasure them as the diversity they represent.

My dad and my uncles always told me that. Even to this day I feel ashamed whenever I cry, but I know that's just bs. Crying, being emotional is natural, is human, and taking that away from someone is pure violence.

It's really not fair to have someone telling you something like this, but I don't think this is about women or men. People who told me to man up were always men. It probably depends on culture and on the type of people that surrounds you.
