We are taught to practice evidence based medicine. There is little evidence, safety data or manufacturing testing for most herbals/homeopathics so it's hard to make recommendations in them.

Protein is a dietary macronutrient required for normal body function, including muscle metabolism. Recommending people take drugs is not even close to the same thing. Maybe if you compared it to anabolic steroid use or something.

Couldn't agree more. There is some data on StJW in treatment of depression; however, it interacts with many other drugs and can be very dangerous. Plus, most OTC herbals are not regulated/evaluated/tested by the FDA and you simply don't know what you're actually putting into your body. Just because something is "natural" does not mean it is safe.
