5	Why are so many comparisons being drawn between the new Texas abortion law and "The Handmaid's Tale?" I think it’s because of the book’s popularity. It’s something that a large majority of women have read or watched and a central theme of the novel (I haven’t seen the show so idk if it’s the same) is that the government is heavily involved in reproductive rights of women. Seeing such a large step from the Texas state government into the sphere of bodily autonomy and reproductive rights I think it’s only natural to reference a pop culture icon like these books . 1	A common response to males committing suicide 3x times as often as women is “That’s because men choose more violent & lethal methods”, with misandrist implications that it’s a result of men being inherently violent. In reality, studies show that even using the same less-lethal methods, men die more. I get what you’re trying to say but when one gender has more resources to deal with trauma, suicidal thoughts , etc and it seems to correlate with more of the opposite gender dying without these resources there’s clearly a problem. I just found it and I really want to support it, I have never understood why females get away so easy but as soon as something to males its just ”man up” etc - disgusting Hey, fellow girl here too. Most of the guys here are very welcoming, it’s a good community! My only advice is when asking questions add that you’re genuinely asking. Some things a ton of people on the sub take for granted that everyone knows certain things but as women we don’t have the same background.
