I don't think society has that kind a view on masculinity - competitive femininity is encouraged, even in gay men and drag queens. Otherwise, very good points.

This is a great answer and I will come back later to pen out a more thorough reply. I must point out now that a bit of nurturing qualities is needed in a man. How else can men want to discipline their children?

Sure, but those traits are a lot harder to define than you'd think. I see people demand same things from males. Like young women searching for a second daddy. Anyway, masculinity doesn't demand tons of resources spent on appearing attractive. One can lift at home.
