Yes, it is important for boys to have male role models and mentors (ideally their fathers, when possible). The helpline thing can be a start toward acknowledging that boys do indeed have developmental needs.

Exactly. Analyzing the situation is necessary -- which is where the hypocrisy can be seen. Nobody in the mainstream (right on up to the President of the United States) questioned the "reason" for the wage gap numbers, it must have been sexism. However, in true form when the opposite situation is represented, there is no sexism, clearly. In fact, it's wonderful that women outnumber men! It shows strength. The image draws attention to one of the many double-standards that exist in popular culture …

"...I was genuinely concerned he might have more nasty things to say.” You know, we used to teach kids about nasty things being said: "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." You know the saying. What ever happened to that? The only power that someone saying mean things has is that which you give to him, by not choosing to ignore him. If there was a genuine concern for real, physical safety then OK, I get it. But if it's just words...

So I can see a libel lawsuit on the horizon. One hopes, at least. Edit: Also: https://archive.is/khAnH Correction An earlier version of this column failed to mention the fact that Jessica Ensley is an active member of F--kRapeCulture, the organization that created the petition on Change.org. Ensley's bio has been updated to include that fact. The original column also stated that the ACACIA fraternity on campus "is notorious for drugging and raping women," however there are no charges against mem…

There's a slight, slight possibility that it's some kind of awful faux pas, but I'd say it's more likely a rape joke. Not cool, NY Post.

Professor Ogloff found the woman had not been acting in a predatory way or been driven by a deviant sexual desire, but instead had allowed her feelings of care and nurturing for the boy to develop into a sexual relationship. Contrast this with the 19 year old who had sex with his 14 year old girlfriend (whom he believed to be 17), and as a result is on a sex predator list.

Very true. For this reason I'm regretting having linked to it at all. The comment at the time seemed a bit blatant, but perhaps I reacted in a way of which we're usually critical when it's done by SJWs. My goal was to shine a light on what appeared (at least) to be something that'd never be accepted were it said to a woman (as it shouldn't be) in that same context (after the fact). I may however have misinterpreted the poster's intent.

I'll reply to your differently-worded reply from the other thread here too, so that things don't get fragmented. Here's what I said to the other one: OK, thanks for clarifying. My including that in the title wasn't meant to single you out, but rather draw attention to the systemic questioning that happens to men in these kinds of situations, but wouldn't even be considered tolerable were it a woman. While I agree the app isn't flawless (and it's a shame that something like it is needed by anyone), to your first point: It would be a small matter to timestamp the videos, which since encrypted, can't be altered. If someone "got consent" through a video, and had sex with the person a week later, it'd certainly be questionable. Overall: It might just be safest to avoid having sex with anyone unless you know them really well, and can trust them. Even this might not always work, but it's better th…

She sounds like one of those people who question whether the Vietnam War happened. Her delusion takes advantage of the fact that for a lot of things, we rely on what people report, and that some things are generally accepted as facts (eg., being on a battlefield with people trying to kill you -- regardless of whether you're a male or female -- is harder than someone looking at your butt). To some degree, there's merit to questioning things that are generally accepted. However, in cases like hers…

I see what you're saying, but it's almost definitively implicit. However, yes, it's effectively an imperative from the boss (which I think is what you're getting at). Nonetheless, I believe he'd most definitely do the same with a male employee.

It doesn't sound like she got an explicit instruction to change. Even if she did, she chose to quit instead of saying "no." Had she been fired for her outfit or refusing to change clothing, maybe there might be some kind of argument, but since men are prevented from wearing shorts also, it definitely couldn't have had anything to do with sexism.

Right, so there are circumstances under which "manspreading" may be OK. Another: When a man or woman is sitting down, with nobody around, and wants to spread out. The point of this image should not be to shame (which it likely wasn't), but to point out that just seeing this particular "act" isn't justification for hassling the one who's doing it.

The 36-year-old mum-of-three has made a complaint and the school has decided to cancel future outings there because of it. Dollars to doughnuts this is to 'punish' the mother, or at the very least the prospect of shaming her through the children at the school lubricated the decision. "Fine, your son was beaten -- we don't want that to happen again, do we? I guess we're just going to have to cancel the trip! That's what you wanted, isn't it? ^_^" Disgusting using a kid to 'punish' a parent for ca…

Sounds very reasonable. Yes, I had in mind about the fact that there are extraordinary circumstances under which some have difficulties. Perhaps a healthy place to be is one where obesity is generally seen as an illness (being severely overweight). Comparing it to something like depression, some people are able to "cheer up," while others have more difficulty doing so, and so benefit from medical intervention. Of course, as with any medical condition, it's up to the person to take whatever actio…

A bit off topic: I honestly wonder whether the fat acceptance movement will change its focus in 15 or so years, when currently obese people start dying en masse. Bullying and shaming should definitely be discouraged, but let's not go too far and tell people that living an unhealthy lifestyle is OK.

Here's a pretty entertaining summary on the topic. It's by Maddox, so of course it'll be brutal (and as such probably not the first material to include in a discussion with someone who's not already convinced), but he's a smart guy and therefore it's still pretty captivating. Come for the facts, stay for the lulz.

Sometimes a post about mens rights will pop up, and the amount of "omg women blah blah" can make me quite defensive. Exactly. At first, I had to make a bit of a conscious effort to not make these kinds of comments in that sort of situation, but after a while I just realized that they're not helpful -- the opposite, in fact! -- and I'd be a huge hypocrite to talk smack about one sex while trying to defend another. Thank you, sister :) It's a good feeling to know that people understand. I for a long time had a cynical view of some women's issues, due largely to the exclusive focus on them; but they're real just like men's issues (and despite what remains of my cynicism, I try to take a fair view). When folks like you express the things that you have, it not only encourages me about men's issues, but makes me more interested in women's, too. Here's another dumb interpretation of a meaningless detail: "... you can see that the female's hand is in position to be run through, just as she harms her mate, for whatever reason she finds. This is so that once she does strike, she'll also be hurt and thus cement her image as victim, whose actions were in self-defence." Facebook is not the place for genuine, deep thought. And clearly deep though has figured this out, and remained absent from Facebook :)

It's an interesting comparison between the burning of the Reichstag, and the actions of the feminist activist group who pulled the fire alarm at the University of Toronto meeting, a while back (the video of this gave the world an introduction to the infamous Big Red). The (immediate) goals weren't really the same, but the similarity of the substance of the tactics is interesting.

I remember hearing about this, back when it was in the public eye. One wonders might happen to this kind of action, should a given profession move closer to 50/50 (or even become more populated by women than men) from being mostly men.

Revenge porn just starts with someone else having the pictures I guess "somewhere connected to the Internet" is then that person. Or if you prefer, I could say "taking naked pictures and giving them to someone, in an electronic format." To expand on the allegory: having naked pictures of yourself in a secure (probably hard copy) format, and only in your own possession, that is compared to owning a house. Putting them in some place from which they might potentially easily be distributed (eg., a p…

I think that's a fairer comparison to taking naked pictures of one's self and putting them somewhere connected to the Internet. But of course, Oliver is part of mainstream media, and they have to talk the talk. If you think about this in context, there aren't many…

It's pretty offensive in its own right, but it might be pretty impractical too: What kinds of men would it be for whom women bother to leave a review? Probably the ones they didn't "keep." Among these are the ones that genuinely are undesirable to them, and those who said "nope" to genuinely undesirable women. Both likely will have poor ratings. There might be exceptions, like a rating of a man with whom a woman "just didn't click," with the two parting ways in a mature way. But, given how many …

It's really the kind of thing that's come to be expected of the CBC, sadly. If a topic has vaguely to do with gender issues in any way (or can even be turned into one that does), it will more than likely be infused with and definitely biased by radical feminist-inspired thought.

In my own opinion, the best thing to do is stick with what you believe to be right and speak up when it seems like a good thing to do. Radical feminism and many other mislead ideals are often best met by assured rationality. Above all, try and not "fight back" in an alienating way if at all possible. I believe what any rights movement should work toward is the reconciliation of people, not just "being right" and "winning." Finally "use as many quotation marks as 'possible.'" (That last point mig…

I don't even want to read it. I got one sentence in. We haven't figured out how to basically survive on Mars yet, and we're already talking about this kind of thing? It takes maturity to make a marriage really work, especially when the going gets tough (ie, the "worse" of "for better or worse"). When something like this It’s like that scene in The Holiday when Kate Winslet’s character realizes you’re supposed to be the lead character in your own life. appears in a justification of giving up on a solemn commitment, it's a possible indication that such maturity is lacking. It is a bit questionable, I'll give you that, but I thought it might be interpreted as objectifying of men (using the bad boys for sex, then using the good boys for marriage). It seemed a bit female red-pill-ish. At least, it's perhaps something to discuss.

I'm against discrimination like that that's suggested here, but: District spokesmen claimed that the boys had been sharing the photos via text messages, on Twitter, and Instagram. Cases like this shouldn't be influenced by how "awesome" the victim thought it was, but how terribly he was affected (which probably factors in at times, sadly). Kids don't have the ability to make the kinds of judgements involved here. That's why what this teacher did is illegal, and why the teacher's penalty should have been much, much stiffer. Poor kid. I …

Thank you for the correction / expansion. I really want to give you gold, but importantly this would give Chairman Pao money and nobody wants that. So I give you one virtual gold ( * )

The graphic is comparing sanitary products to (men's) razors. But, both men's and women's razors are not taxed. There might be some product for men, similar to sanitary products, that's a necessity but still taxed. Perhaps sanitary products shouldn't be taxed, but it's not an equality issue -- I think this is what OP may be getting at.

Sort of seems that there are a growing number of men who probably are sick of what relationships between men and women have become. Maybe this is to trick them out of that trend.

It seems things like this are forgiven because even though they're fraud, they "raise awareness." Cf. gamer gate: even though Anita Sarkeesian has been called out as a liar because of her own words ("I don't consider myself a gamer" vs. her popular video's statements regarding her being a gamer all her life), the same reasoning applies. In the real world, this kind of thing would take away credibility, but in the weird world of popular feminist reasoning, it really looks like there are different…

By Melvin Konner What a dork. Beyond the grovelling in the article, and I'm sorry for this sophomoric observation, his first name is a euphemism for a front wedgie (which seems pretty appropriate).

Blatant double standard when sex-segregated dorms already exist. Hoping this story goes big so that the university is embarrassed into doing the right thing -- horrible as it is that that's even necessary.

The issue is: if they are a secular school (as Dyens stated), how is modesty to this degree even an issue? It seems more likely that they got caught out: this time, people made a stink, but nobody happened to when the pool issue came up. They're not guided by a sense of secularism or equality, they're guided by how they think they're going to be perceived.

What a boner of a topic. She'll probably dick around for a few months, then churn out some half-cocked paper that her jerk-off review board will rubber stamp.

Let's get one thing straight: Even if he didn't post it online, the mere act of filming their sexual encounter without her consent is absolutely awful. Unforgivable, if you ask us. But, so is throwing acid on someone's penis. Is... is the article somehow equating these two things?

The man looked after the child when the woman was working and paid more than £80,000 in maintenance, his barrister, Thomas Brudenell, told the court. Do you think the man decided to not seek remuneration for those costs, or just didn't get it? What he got was a little under half.

I'm really comforted by the administrative response," said Kate Hilts, a junior. "It's really nice to know that my school supports survivors and listens when they say they don't feel safe. Rape culture is indisputable and [True's] words and actions are deeply upsetting. They've retraumatized and triggered survivors, and that seems antithetical to Reed culture." Anyone want to score this on the Tumblr Keyword Index?

Yes, a day later this seems to have come out (at least, someone's tagged it as such). I guess true justice in men's rights will for the time being, usually be satire.

Following Fuller’s outrageous child support demands, the judge presiding over the case felt she was not in a position to properly care for the child. So I guess making unreasonable demands (possibly based on selfishness) does indeed have consequences (rightly so). Good that the judge is wise enough to realize that the kind of character needed to try to use a child for personal gain (if this is in fact what happened) isn't best suited to raising healthy children.

One wonders how anyone could be so blind to not realize that such a system can be harmful and very dangerous. Nowadays, students tend to get pretty peeved at bad grades, and I'm sure many other examples exist wherein putting such a trigger in front of everyone is clearly a near certain problem.
