Based on? Playing guard is pretty much exactly what they're going for. Anyone seriously trained in combat will tell you that the way to safety is to escape the situation. A female facing a larger male attacker could "win" if she was skilled in BJJ but getting close and engaging at the nearest possible distance is very very risky. Women who are worried about being raped may be uncomfortable learning prevention around men. The potential for predators to seek out this type of group. Men expressed no interest. No men have ever bothered to organize a men's safety council. A rape class for men would, at least at some level, involve teaching violence against women. Having untrained men pretend to try to rape women, is actually very rapey and uncomfortable for women who already feel vulnerable.

There is an argument to be made, but not a strong one. Female only participants does not necessitate female only instructors. In fact, anything approaching "sparring" in a mixed group in a 2-day course would be irresponsible and dangerous.

No, I can just read.... Men should have training in table manners too, but this post was about a women's only rape defense class. Men already have all sorts of training available if you're worried about being robbed. Typically much more readily available than women, in fact. My favourite comes in several parts. 1) Men and women are anatomically different, so separate self-defense courses, if they are being offered, make the most sense in a time sensitive situation.
