I have about 3k followers, so not a massive amount of clout but maybe a little, and I get responses from random hotties that I DM very regularly.

This thread is old now... but I'm gonna be in HK next weekend, by myself on Friday and Saturday night (14th & 15th), and I'd definitely be up for going out if you are.

Right, the message you were trying to convey is fine, but don't use that specific phrasing. In my experience girls do not respond very well to "I have a super cool job but I can't explain it to you either because I'm too dumb to explain it simply, or you're too dumb to understand".

I'm a neuroscientist, but absolutely never bring up work, and if asked I just say I'm a neuroscientist. They almost always have a million follow up questions and I usually answer the first one or two and then change the subject to something that I actually want to talk about in a social situation. Honestly it doesn't come up very much. Talking about work in social situations is lame as fuck.

I can't really talk about it in a way that won't bore you though, so let's talk about something else" Don't say this. It both makes you look bad for not being able to spin something dull as interesting, and is insulting to her. I just say I don't want to talk about work.

Start lifting weights, and get dedicated to that. When you start getting big and seeing changes in your body, in combination with the endorphins from exercise, you will feel a million times better about yourself. The gym is super addicting after a point and can be the most rewarding thing ever.

But you're tall (I'm assuming), so you have that going for you... I work with a couple of Dutch people, and yeah not the most oustanding or sexiest accent, but I still bet just walking up to a girl and giving a bland generic introduction would work better for you than for someone from here.

Eh, I think girls do just like guys from 'exotic' and different places though, even if they are just sitting in the corner. I've 100% never gotten more attention from the general population than I did as an American in Ibiza. Went there with two guys friends, we would literally just be sitting at a table outside a bar talking, and groups of girls would hear our accents and come sit and start talking with us... some of them would just start saying nutty shit like they "want our lives" and asking …

Ah yeah definitely. Well good luck to you! Start saving money and find a place in BK or something. There are definitely rooms to rent out there that aren't too crazy expensive and are still in decent location.

What do you mean? You mean like living alone vs. having roommates? I also live in NYC and I'm pretty sure no girl is going to judge you and be weird about you having roommates... Most people I know here have roommates. Or do you mean like living with your parents? Because yeah that probably won't work. This thread makes me feel incredibly lucky that I live by myself in Manhattan.

Eh, you can say I'm putting on a front all you want, but in the past 6 months I've began to realize that I really don't think I want to date anyone who doesn't work in medicine or biomedical science. I don't feel superior for having letters behind my name, my degree doesn't mean anything other than that I'm allowed to do the job that I do. I'm not the most empathic person ever, but that is completely unrelated. Being a doctor (or a scientist) isn't a career, it's a lifestyle. It can be very hard…

25 year old, 5th year neuroscience PhD student here. My grad school experience has been nothing short of amazing. In college I went to a large state school, was in a fraternity and partied my ass off. I didn't think it could ever be possible to have more fun than I did in those years. Then I moved across the country to Charleston, SC, for grad school. There is a large undergrad institution in Charleston, which is about 70% female. Being also into the EDM scene, I would usually rather dance near girls than actually with them all up on my shit. Having some chick grinding on me just restricts how much I can move. Dancing is awesome. And dancing by yourself definitely shows confidence in my opinion (and being good at dancing is obviously high value).

I think it happens once you get to the point where girls start to be attracted very fast. Peacocking, or being cocky is good to get them attracted, but not so good to sustain it. Moving into comfort faster is the right call.

can I reverse my emotions and back up? Probably not. FWB with a girl you have feelings for isn't even "casual sex" for you. I personally would bail. Been down that road before, it doesn't end well. If she isn't saying "fuck yes", you should say "no."

I'm in a pretty small city, and yeah it's a bummer. But also when I say 90% are incompatible, I mean they're fatties. I put absolutely no weight into the match % shit... but I did have to put a line in at the end of my profile explaining that "the overweight need not apply".

UCSB is one of those schools where there are so many hot girls they all forget that they are hot. Analogous to College of Charleston on the east coast. Beach town attracts tons of hot chicks, and they aren't diluted by a big city like those at UCSD or UCLA.

Listen to her say "OMG I love my little sooo much she is absolutely amazing" about a million times. Truth be told though, I don't find there to be a problem with talking about school. Usually this is a two-parter for me. If I'm not going to use a condom, I have to ask: 1) Are you on birth control? 2) Do you get tested regularly? I tend to phrase that second question that way because I don't particularly want to offend a girl by indicating I think she may not be "clean". Probably doesn't matter, but I've seen girls get all butthurt over less.

Well, approach anxiety (as with all anxiety) is much more likely coming from the amygdala, within the temporal lobe. The amygdala is what is going to get your sympathetic system aroused, cause you to have nervous sweats etc. It is also going to encode for "cues" which predict success/failure. For example if a person has much more luck with blondes than brunettes, the amygdala will recognize this and subconsciously make that person much more willing to approach blondes than brunettes. Overall I u…

As a neuroscientist, I'm going to disagree. Saying: Frontal lobe of humans inhibits our actions even when result can be seen as beneficial. Is not true. The orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) is involved in impulsivity and response inhibition; however, a big job of the orbitofrontal cortex is to compare the actual outcome with the expected outcome. SO if you carry out some behavior that you are expecting to lead to a large reward, and it actually leads to a small reward or a punishment, the OFC is going…

A: I can't unload a pile of bowling balls from my truck with a pitchfork. Q: How do you make a dead baby float? A: Take your foot of it's head. Q: What's black and blue and doesn't like sex? A: The baby in my trunk. Yeah, these are horrible for picking up chicks. My girlfriend digs them though. She's a keeper.

/r/seduction10/09/12 07:38 PM

Stop texting them 10 minutes after you separate. Reeks of desperation, makes it seem like you have nothing else going on. If you really want to text that soon, just say "Here's my number, it was great to meet you!" Getting super personal with the first text right after meeting them is not the way to go, I think.

Probably not exactly the 'advice' you're looking for, but just affirms your feelings. This post: Words of advice to those who get good at this. Made me change my whole perspective on shit. I now have an awesome girlfriend. Last girl I dated used to comment all the time on how she loved that I got so excited about science, so they are out there. I think that the whole "unless prompted" thing is both good and bad. Girls don't really know what they're getting themselves into when they 'prompt' you. I'll blatantly say that "I don't want to talk about work tonight", and I've found that it works wonders. Man, this post made me realize that a girl I recently lost probably felt exactly like this about me... She was a little bit of a prude, I was very open with her about my fairly liberal sexual history. Reading that made me think of some things I had never considered from her point of view before. Damn. Edit: To answer your question, try not to feel differently about her. If you two do wind up dating, tell her you don't want to sleep with her unless she legitimately cares about you.
