There's a scientific reason and logical cause to it. Get the book ' The Interpretations of Dreams' by Sigmund Freud. He explained how the unconscious part of our mind created the dream we experienced. There must be some day-to-day objects, experience, slight memories, triggers that relates to your experience with your ex, hence triggering the emotional part of the brain and created that dream. TLDR: That dream was created by a trigger you didn't realize in your unconscious part of the brain.
