I hear from some women who've waited a long time (6 months +) that a man's willingness to wait for sex for months/year might also mean that he doesn't have much of an appetite day-to-day. Maybe there's a thread for this? My ex also stated that he wouldn't have been willing to wait for marriage for me because I'd had a partner before him. I did have him wait until we were in a committed relationship and exclusive.

This is one of my favorite comments, thank you. He is generally loving, generous, and good. Both towards me throughout almost all of our relationship and toward others consistently. But in hindsight, people did tell me that he’s been selfish and transactional in really particular times in his life. They said that was when he was much younger and there wasn’t a pattern that I was able to predict or point to. Everyone thought it was gone, but I agree with you, it was an issue of being able to have…

Gosh, I don’t know — it’s possible. There’s definitely something in him that began to shut down emotionally when he was actually needed to step up into this deeper role. I didn’t make it hard for him, but even then, he said I was an angel. Still, once he started providing, it felt like he saw the relationship as transactional — like the control became more appealing to him than the partnership. His family is incredible and really upset about it. Even his Polish grandma, who doesn’t speak English…

Great questions. He’s always been on Reddit, but he never made comments/posts like that while we were together. I know that he started dating like a week after he ended things, and mutual friends say he’s even been picking up girls lately with them around. We dated for 1.5 years before he proposed. He knew it was a value of mine to get married and have kids, but I never pressured him, he suggested a timeline for us and I thought it was fast-ish but reasonable. Thank you for the care. It feels ee…

Thanks for your perspective. The tough part is that he’s a public figure and has rightfully earned trust from his entire industry and local community and he is very generous with his time and energy. He has shown good character. His family sees him as a bit selfish sometimes, but he’s never given us reason to think that he would completely abandon someone counting on him. Again, this is his own stuff to work through, but like you said, I need to adjust my lens a bit. Those markers (status, money…

That’s the thing - he was already rich when I met him. I was ‘trophy wife’ material from the start, but I still invested in helping him grow toward his new $100M goal. I wasn’t his come-up girl, and even though I supported his next level, he hesitated when it came to the idea of sharing assets or accounts. It was clear I didn’t want him for his money - I wanted to build a life and a vision. But in the end, the money was all he could see.

I get what you mean - I’m not grieving the loss of potential assets. I’m grieving that I offered my heart to someone who was willing to walk away without doing the work together. I don’t want a man who stays because it’s legally hard to leave — I want one who wants a life together rather than staying only to curb financial loss.

I feel like this shows me he would’ve run either way? Our wedding was around the corner. There was something in my gut that wanted to see if I could rely on him providing, if he could take good care of me if I leaned on him. I guess this showed us the answer - wedding or not.

Thank you. We were so close to our wedding date, and I can’t shake the feeling that he would’ve run either way. I really did wait to invest more deeply until we were engaged. But I’m definitely going to look more into how I can protect myself better moving forward — how to honor my feminine without giving everything too soon. Maybe even once there’s a legal commitment, I’ll still hold back just a little — just in case?

We had a wedding date so I thought I was safe. But what comes to mind is, if he left this so quickly after an engagement, I can’t say he would’ve stayed even if we were married. So maybe he was just the kind of guy who was willing to run either way?

Ugh I know. The heart is a stubborn one, but that’s good advice. Thank you!

I truly didn’t see it ending — I thought we were nowhere near that point. Taking a break from work was something I mentioned being curious about, and he leaned all the way in to support it. He didn’t exactly suggest it, but he wanted to give me everything I desired. That’s why the shift felt like emotional whiplash — his whole demeanor toward me changed so suddenly, I was left spinning.

This was me for 4 years. Sometimes they want to feel like the provider-man, and they like the commitment that gets from us, but when it came down to it, he really just isn’t someone who wants to be responsible for providing for another person. He’ll do it in a pinch, but he’ll make sure you feel the pain of it. After I decided I couldn’t make my ex be the man I needed, I dumped that guy, I worked on my mental and physical health, got a better job, and in 6 months found the love of my life. HE is…

It’s not just you!! I’m 26 & engaged to the most loving man who’s a big provider, and as soon as we got engaged, all I can think about is being an amazing wife and mother. I love love career and academia, but lo and behold, a traditional approach feels wayyy more fulfilling in this season of my life.

I feel like I’ve found the holy grail with this book. It’s so good - now I’m wishing there were some secret legion of women teaching this gold to every young woman 🤩🥹

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
