You have to remember that the people currently in the army, navy etc aren't doing it for a good cause or survival like WW2 Veterans. They're in it because its the only job they can get. Sure there are exceptions, but those that are actually skilled rise to the top fairly quickly if they don't get hamstrung by jealous officers. I love going to interviews. The psychological aspects of it is thrilling, especially when you land the job and have the option of not taking it. You should start enjoying interviews, and try get as many behind you as possible. Even if you have no intention of leaving your current job. Think of it as keeping fit.
