Hang in there brother. 13 months post divorce for me, married for 20 together for 26. Still going through really rough time with my 18 & 19 yr old daughters who aligned themselves with mom and want nothing to do with me. But I keep trying with the kids even though I’m tempted to throw in the towel. Everything else is going well though - got in shape, eating healthy, working on mental health, having fun, got a girlfriend. Stuff will work out, just take one step at a time.

Great post, congrats on opening the next chapter! 52m, div decree issued in May after 26 years together and married for 19.75 years. Yesterday would have been our 20th anniversary. Concur 100% with everything you said. Your story is amazingly similar to mine. We stayed out of court, financial impact was devastating (SAH mom scenario) but could have been a lot worse. Focus on self is super important. I quit the booze, lost a ton of weight, eat healthy, see a counselor regularly, exercise and am e…

52, good chance the divorce decree will be issued this week. 26 years together, 19 married. Working on getting myself healthy (physical, mental, emotional). I get sad once in a while but mostly focus on building version 2.0 of myself. Closing this chapter opening the next. Any kind of relationship is the last thing on my mind, at least for now.

I (52m) am 6-9 months ahead of you in the process, maybe a couple of weeks from issuance of a divorce decree. Two teen daughters. Losing/lost the house to her (in exchange for leaving my retirement untouched). Going back to renting in an expensive area, at age 52. Brother I too have had some really dark thoughts. And although I’m not out of the woods quite yet, What I will tell you is that you will figure it out and things will get better. Use this as the opportunity to create version 2.0 of you…

Some of your people crack me up. You’re more loyal to the mortgage than you are to the marriage. The mortgage is worth saving but the marriage isn’t. Lol. My greatest wish is to save the marriage, but that takes two people to achieve. Trying to minimize collective damage because ultimately the more damage there is the less my kids get in the long run.

Took a quick look at HELOC rates, seems they are north of 8%. The existing mortgage rate is 3.85%.

Our tentative agreement is 22 months of CS and SS, and then the SS steps down for another 9 years (Great suggestion on SS step down, buyout option, thanks.) Asset division is roughly 50/50. I will check child support guidelines, and make sure I’m transparent on RSUs. Thank you, very helpful.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
