The 80s weren't necessarily easy or affordable, divorce rate went up. Generation of latch key kids. It was not uncomon for fathers to be absent. Some moved onto their second families without looking back. Women were paid less, and single mothers had to make ends meet on that. Daycare was family and community. Rich people had nannies.

It is not normalized to me, but rather how they present themselves is different. They appear more normal in tone and appearance, due to masking, but the thought process is the same. It creates an eerie feeling for me.

Gen x, childfree. In long term relationship. It sounds like the biggest hurdle you have is deciding this is what you want and going for it. If you must have your own space, then there should be no question about it. When I've been trying to decide if something is right for me, I've asked these questions, but when I was certain, I did not. I just assumed I would make it happen and I did not accept less. It doesn't matter if there is societal pressure. You saw the post about Keiko? The 71 year old…

That's terrifying. I've heard it said it takes a year or two to get to know someone. Not in depth, but a decent idea of what's behind the mask.

Lol. Talked to a 50 year old guy tell me he wanted kids. He said he wanted a leagcy, that on his gravestone he wanted it to say he was a good father and husband. My head exploded. When I asked him what being a good father meant to him, he was completely vague. My child rearing experience was basically sometimes watching the younger kids in my family when I was a kid so the adult in charge could get a break. They were generally still around or reachable if something urgent came up. That is not mu…

You'd have to go further back than the 80s I'm afraid.

If she wants the princess treatment and he doesn't want to give it, then they both should move on. I don't know what she personally means by it, the gist I understood was getting dressed up, taken out for a nice dinner, treated with respect, have them hold the door for you etc. Being treated like a Lady. I'm not someone who likes to dress up or go to nice restaurants, but I think it's important for your partner to treat you like you're special by observing what's important to you and taking you …

"Not the price of admission" by laura brown had a chapter that talked about Limbic Resonance, she talks about how our nervous system is wired by our caretakers and environment. And how what is familiar in childhood, our nervous ssystem records a "safe", even if it is not. And so we seek familiar patterns of behavior and environment in adulthood. Part of recovery from childhood trauma and abuse is rewiring our nervous system, repairing our red flag systems, etc. It's a long process. I would recom…

I made a rule as a kid that I could only fantasize or daydream about fictional characters, not anyone I could potentially meet in real life. I grew up in a city that was fairly dangerous and something could go wrong very quickly, even with people you thought you knew. You do not want any illusions about anyone, not strangers, not people you pass in the street, not familiar faces, and especially not people you might interact with or know.

What really gets me is how normal they sound in terms of how they speak, they sound reasonable, without the context I would wonder what was going on that was so upsetting. My experiences back in the day was people were easier to flag. It was more obvious they were crazy or knew they were trying to get away with something they shouldn't. Back then we didn't have social media or youtube, I wonder if that contrubutes to people being able to mask better. That is a typical move I've seen guys do, esp…

Just what in the hell. There doesn't need to be a trauma history for that response to be "bad enough".

That's nuts. I'm assuming this is enforced for any gender that says no? Everyone should be able to say no. What if someone else asked you first and you say no,.does that mean you can't attend prom?

That's weird he asked you and not an employee.

I have men ask me for directions all the time, but the ones who really just want directions just want them quickly and to be on their way, they don't do things to get you in.grabbing distance.

I could see someone in that position where they had to, but they would tie a rope ro the door or keep it close when they got in. Who's going to sit and wait for some stranger to show up who appears safe enough to ask them for help when they're vulberable like that. No way.

Always trust your gut and don't feel bad about it. That situation was a little weird. Most people I know of all genders would not reveal that vulnerability because it makes them a target. They would ignore the pain, bring someone with them, or jerryrig something so they could handle it themselves. He could have tied a rope to the door or something. That helplessness is a little suspicious. Even if he had no intent to harm, he's likely not a person with healthy boundaries and should be avoided.

My ex prioritized my pleasure in bed, but was emotionally abusive.

This is why I distrust movements and people's lipservice to them, I watch what they do, not what they say.

When I was younger that dude would have gotten heckled, hit, or the drink dumped on him for being a creep. No one should bother you lile that.

If I see (or saw) my sibling doing something that concerns me, I try to get to know more about the situation first. When she was young she also dated someone who I thought was inappropriately older, but I listened to her for a while and heard what others.had to say about him first and I also met him. He seemed immature, and not entirely a responsible adult but my sense was that she'd grow out of the relationship in time. And I was right. We did talk about it, I did express some of my concerns, b…

"You should give everyone a chance" I chuckled at this. What a clown. As if he's truly democratic and caring of anyone else.

Why are you connected with him on social media? He sounds like a waste of time.

I thought he was pretty self centered in F2 when he obsessed about how to propose. All of that shit was going down and that was what was on his mind? How about dropping that for later and paying attention to the present? He could have waited till that all was over. I didn't think the second movie was consistent and well done, nor was his character.
