Their movement is at the point where the self congratulation is necessary to justify the existence of their institutions. It's just like the fact that unions parade themselves as "the reason" that work is not a living hell for everyone. The story doesn't have to be true or historical or count for anything. It's a talking point to keep institutions powerful.
Just to clarify, I'm not claiming people have a right to a changing table. I'm just noting the fact that I often find it difficult to find changing tables in men's rooms in the USA.
