It says in the article that the funding is going to two organisations that presumably, have a more egalitarian approach.

You do realise it's possible to read a work in its historical context right? Regardless, the validity of his point remains despite some the distasteful (by modern standards) theories stated.

Discrimination is not an inherently bad thing, you do it every day. You discriminate against services and products, about the people you associate with, about your choices in entertainment and leisure and that's ok.

Notice they never once mention what he was falsely accused of. Very savvy trailer.

That is a horrendously toxic attitude.

No no, it sucks at that too.

Eh, this is just a form of entrapment, let's not sink to their level yeah?

Well based on down votes a fair few people don't agree that it was so obvious. Much like a knife, language wielded carelessly can be harmful.

Problem being you didn't, you simply stated "we all know how men are" which is entirely different.

That may be true (based on current statistics that don't count female rapists as rapists) but to paint in broad strokes based on the actions of a tiny minority misrepresents the actual situation. If you still do the get it how about I provide you with a counter example. Yeah a man killing a baby is fucked up but giving an infant to a woman is just asking for infanticide as we all know how women are.

Ah, I see I was mistaken. Go spout your hate speech elsewhere.

Knowing how men are? Unfortunate choice of words I hope.

That may be true but it's no reason to sink to their level.

While I certainly agree execution of the mother is not right what do you propose happens? She goes to jail? She goes back home to 'care' for her son?

Yes exactly.

I think the point is the hotel should not have given out her personal information (yes even just her room number) to anyone without her permission.

Most of these statistics are straight up useless.

Apologies, misquoting cdc statistics as legalese.

A man penetrated by another man is legally defined as rape (penetration=rape apparently) but female on male is currently classed as 'forced to penetrate', a sexual misdemeanour.

Workplace injuries and deaths are an interesting issue. Men are, in general, more willing to take risks if they perceive the rewards to be better. This goes not just in how men select their profession but also in how they perform it (I'm sure most of the men here have worked according to the adage better to ask forgiveness than permission before). Further it ties into the 'wage gap', more dangerous work requires more incentives. That said I think we need to be careful around the issue, I would h…

Is it not the case that male on male rape is referred to as rape but female on male rape is 'forced to penetrate'?

God this stuff is too funny. So feminists advocate for female empowerment, owning their sexuality and being unashamed, the 'slut walk' being a fine example and yet when women do it outside of these 'feminist approved venues' it's an affront. I don't get it, I don't think even they get it, it's a real lark.

The best part is that this argument cuts both ways. So, you have experienced oppression and discrimination? Well that is purely experiential and not necessarily representative of everyone's or even the majority's experience.

Yes but this person is most likely not a political feminist (she seems to retain some sense) so I would not paraphrase in this situation. Really what she says would make an awful lot of sense if it weren't so far from reality. I know people here are no fan of feminism and nor am I (of the political variety at least) but that is no reason to believe that all feminists are un-empathetic selfish monsters who laugh at the issues men face, particularly when we come across the rare one that seems reas…

Eh I don't agree with your translation at all. What she is talking about is what feminism SHOULD be, true gender egalitarianism. This, however, as we all know is not how things actually are in a majority of cases. If all feminists could be like this one is (with the addition of actually dealing with the issues that men face) the world would be a better place. Too bad really.

Being spit does not justify violence, nothing does bar self defence which this clearly was not. They both behaved deplorably.
/r/MensRights13/10/12 03:54 PM

None of the things you talk about are any excuse for violence, the only reason you should ever be violent is in self defence.

The difference in this case is that the men have no choice as to whether they serve in the military or not whereas the women have every choice as to when/if they decide to have children.

Yeah as a fellow Australian I don't really see that at all. If you would care to enlighten me as to how this is a big issue in Australia I would greatly appreciate it.

Yes gender roles hurt everyone, so you know what? Ignore them. Don't let them define you and fuck anyone who says otherwise. No one regardless of sex is this helpless thing before gender roles unable to choose what they want for themselves. Stand up, be the change you want to see, do what you want to do and fuck what society dictates to you.

Recognising that society is giving us shitty advice does not lessen the pressure. When we ignore what society dictates it makes you less in the eyes of society and it feels like a pretty huge burden a lot of the time. I am still fairly young though, in my early 20's, and I'm learning these lessons now, it's pretty hard at the moment but from what you're saying it seems it will get easier with time, especially once I am able to see the benefits of my efforts compared to those who blindly prescrib…

The difference is the public perception of such an act. This woman will likely be treated with a lot more sympathy than a man in the same position if not by the courts then at least by the general public.

He certainly has some very valid points but something about this just doesn't sit right with me and I'm struggling to figure out what it is.

And this is where the hypocrisy sets in. You do not accuse a potential victim of lying regardless of the plausibility of their story unless you have evidence to prove they are in fact lying. Male victims of abuse are already afraid enough to admit to their abuse for fear of ridicule and so we must take every case of potential abuse seriously and at face value much like I expect a woman in an abusive situation would also expect.

It seems like a pretty scummy move to remove your post, surely drawing this amount of attention and sparking discussion is the entire purpose of the IAMA despite the no repeat posts rule. Regardless I must thank you for doing it in the first place as it has drawn my attention to this subreddit. It's extremely frustrating to see inequality in our society that no one seems capable or willing to recognise and it's great to know I have a place here where I can discuss men's rights without people lau…
