2	How do I learn everything about something and something about everything? Start with history. Just learn a timeline for some events - stages of the industrial revolution, eras in art etc. At the very least you will be able to relate eras, and you will inevitably pick up tidbits of specifics. The great part is you will eventually notice corollaries between disparate events which leads to interesting conversation.
