I would never say “never” but I’d also be very reluctant. I think even in the best of relationships a certain amount of complacency creeps in. In a marriage where the barrier to leaving is much higher than in a non legal relationship I think that complacency is stronger. Even if it’s on a subconscious level I think that if you know your partner can leave at any moment and they know that about you then both know they need to continue to put in the effort.
