7	Dont spend more than you earn - how hard is that I have friends who work in social housing who tell me similar things. While there are people who have genuinely fallen on hard times and need the social safety net to get back on their feet, the majority will stay there permanently. My wife has hit me a couple of times over the course of our marriage when she got really worked up, but the difference in size and strength between us was so large that her attacks just kind of bounced off. Fighting back would have been like beating an angry child, so I didn't bother. If she'd got really serious and actually started causing damage, then it would have been different. It actually isn't. What is happening is that you are becoming more aware of it. I'd have to dig up the actual statistics, but poverty has dropped by something like 50% in the last couple of decades.
