How so? It means an environment in which rape is normalized and seen as an inevitable part of society. There is nothing gender specific or agenda-based about this. The words 'rape' and 'culture' already carry this connotation, you cannot try to limit the use of a phrase like this.

Because language changes, especially for buzzwords like the one in question. It is still used in its original context, but its meaning has been broadened. If anything, I think it strengthens the original term. It's a human problem, not a gender specific problem. Limiting it, or trying to hold onto an older meaning isn't productive.

It's being upvoted pretty hard now but it seems like a pretty biased and uninformative answer, especially for a place like ELI5. Also, I object to the idea of a term being 'stolen' by anyone.

I didn't see that the guy was painted as the evildoer, but apparently many others did. They both seemed like idiots, and the only time the OP said anything about the guy is when he stormed off in the car with the kid as the cops were on the way. I did see however, in most of the top comments, many people bending over backwards to rationalize the man's behavior and call the woman insane.
