Really gonna comment on a two year old comment ? I'd rather be SA-ed and alive then murdered. I'd rather friends be SA-ed and alive then murdered. It's extreme and horrifying trauma but it's survivable trauma for most. There's is sadly a self fulfilling prophecy going on in the left (and somewhat on the right) where folk are unintentionally encouraged to live in their trauma, their encouraged to act in a way that results in how they think about it being even worse then it is -- and for me, treat…

Yea -- TERFS are a combination of benevolent sexism towards cis women, hostile sexism towards men, and hostile prejudice towards trans folk. And lot of their beliefs are at least partially from feminism that interlinks with traditional benevolent sexism towards women, despite those that want to distance themselves from that -- instead of examining why these extremists rise from feminism and trying to fix it to reduce that. .

I just went on a binge of watching body camera video involving male victims. The vast majority included likely-false accusations by the person the cops concluded was the abuser, including quite a few where the abuser was the one that called the cops (likely around 1/3 abuser, 1/3 victim, 1/3 witness for who made the call to the police, but I could be wrong) :x The frustrating thing about abuser is the victim and the abuser may say the exact same thing , and it can be hard for an outside observer…

I don't listen to her as haven't heard of her, but it's good to listen to people you may diagree with to challenge our own ideas and to understand what other's perspective are so when we debate, we're debating their points and not straw men. Echo chambers are usually counterproductive to be in.

I was watching something about how bad femicide was in Mexico. So I googled the percentage of murder based on gender -- Mexico has a higher percentage of male murder victims then USA -- 90% compared to 70% iirc ! When a male kills his love interest it's femicide but hen a female kills her love interest it's just murder? 🤷‍♂️ Murder is deplorable, but can we please treat life equally and focus on reducing murder 😬

I think it's useful to point out how that term is weaponized against nuerodivergent people, at least makes some progressives think as they tend to care more aobut issues that effect neurodivergent people then issues that effect men. Same with mansplaining.

> IMO, the problems in the western world are mostly societal issues that are hard for either gender to fully understand (with the exception of Trans people perhaps). Something I've needed to understand more fully is I do not know what it's like to be marginalized as a cis man, only a trans man. I don't understand what it means to have to sign up for draft, I don't understand what it means to have part of my junk cut off as a baby, I don't understand what it means to have been raised as someone a…

> A self-fulfilling prophecy is when a person's expectations, whether positive or negative, about a situation or another person influence their behavior in a way that makes those expectations come true. It's essentially a belief that leads to an action, which then causes the belief to be validated.

Benevolent sexism ends up hurting everyone. Beneveolent prejudice in general is an issue in progressive spaces. Like, as a trans man, I defiantly experience hostile prejudice -- if I go online to some spaces (or watch the news/politics...) -- but being in progressive spaces, I was cuddled, put on pedestals due to being trans and so so struggling (I'm a middle income, well educated guy that was more well off them most cis folk in some spaces), not held accountable when I was an a-hole (combing di…

Short hand for aligning with traditional gender norms, as the hostile sexism that feminism was created to address tends to effect those outside of those norms more, and the hostile sexism towards men and women tend in progressive spaces tends to be towards those that are more traditional --like calling the first snow white from the first movie outdated is hostile sexism towards women for not being girlboss/for being viewed as more traditional, and calling the prince a stalker is hostile sexism t…

For hate against transphobia, the TERF movement is a combination of transphobia, hostile sexism towards men, and benevolent sexism towards women. TERFS either don't think us trans men are men, or don't care about us getting raped (depending on the given TERF) or don't consider us rapists cause some of us don't have attached dicks. They also don't care about cis boys getting raped in men's bathrooms -- it's only little girls and women that can get rapped in some of their heads... And they don't t…

It's really hard to get the right balance Awareness of hostile sexism towards women, and benevolent prejudice/male privilege towards men resulted in feminism in response, but overcorrected into these hostile sexism towards men and benevolent prejudice/female privilege towards women (which built on existing issues, as there was originally already hostile and benevolent sexism towards both genders). Then the response to that does overcorrect into more hostile sexism towards women. Why it's really …

> The mockery of male loneliness isn’t just insensitive—it’s dangerous. Most mass shootings are probably suicide by cops. The danger is to everyone :x. I've seen people on left praise how most of the shooters are coming from the right... but we pushed them to the right, we contributed to their pain. We wash our hands of our failings and blame instead of really fixing issues.

It's easier to go against people that are vulnerable... :x Example of this behaviour is the every day usage of toxic masculinity and similar phrases, which up causing overall more toxic masculinity. Originally conned with deep masculinity, that phrase got dropped when the phrase got mainstreamed. As phrasing matters, the usage of toxic masculinity has resulted in people (of all genders) associating masculinity with toxicity (something I've noticed in myself -- tho I'm fairly gender non-confirmin…

> What really got me about that meme was that men have tried to start men's groups or clubs, for YEARS. But every time, they were immediately branded as 'misogynistic' or 'right-wing' without question, and were shut down not long after. Example of how some types of feminism ends up oppressing both men and women (and everyone inbetween). It's a combination of hostile and benevolent prejudice towards women, and hostile prejudice towards men (with TERFS being the extreme result of those issues when combined with transphobia). There's a lot of reasons why as someone that's technically bisexual (tho homoromantic), I stick to m4m communities. I generally think misandry is really really big factor, but focusing too much on misandry can cause some trans folk who have that direct experience with the transphobia to shut off or react negativity, as it feels invaliding to the harm they experience from that transphobia. So for messaging towards trans folk, starting off acknowledging the transphobia hopefully increases the likelihood they'll later listen to the issues around sexism. Same with benevolent/hostile sexism towards women -- when t…

> Truth is, we have no idea how many people are slipping by due to the previous generlization of neurodivergencies, and because now women have framed themselves as needing extra support, basically all awareness of ADHD and ASD are being aimed towards women. In general, yes, but we need to make it more viable for the single parents to thrive in order for such laws to be popular enough to be passed. The current requirements are based on how hard it is for single parents -- the child welfare is what's considered more important then the parents (tho there's like some lack of care for men's well being also / hostile sexism towards men and benevolent prejudice towards women in the current laws). Rape happens in prison, e.g. the data is likely skewed by rape convictions by those already in prison with sentances. It's a lot harder for men to rape women in a men's only prison (outside of trans women forced into men's prisons :x). Also, another factor as male victims actually likely have a lot harder time being believed from other studies, it's likely the /more/ extreme cases only getting convictions/involving minors/etc. There's also rape accusations being used by bigoted parents of homose…

With context that I'm a trans, I'm becoming aware of the way trans folk have so focused on, our needs are being prioritized in this way. Like, in trans specific stuff, we should be, but as you say, when talking about men in general, prioritizing ~1% of men (or in case of binary trans women, people that are not men), is not great when trying to appeal to all men. It builds resentment as it makes people feel our needs our being prioritized over theirs (...which they are in some cases...). in some …

I enjoyed the modern Star wars and Rey, but she is a Mary Sue. I've read fanfiction for like 25 years (before the big archives, when we used web rings to find sites), I'm pretty familiar with Mary Sues -- tmk fanfiction is where the term comes from. As it's typically written by female authors, it's typical the author insert/power fantasy is female and thus the term. Imo both men and women are perpetuating it in probably around equal amounts -- and both need to be aware of that. Women's dating habits and responses to men contribute to how men approach dating. By ignoring the ways women are also contributing, that also effects how we view women's agency. But I'm gay, and so my perspective is some judging from the side, but as a trans guy, I somewhat more experiences in socialization on both sides then most cis people, but have had very limited straight dating…

I would guess being LGBT or another minority the right wing leaders to fear mongers about is a motivation to not shift right. Tho, 10% of LGBT voted Trump, but taking a step back and getting out of my echo chamber, I have a better understanding how so many feel alienated from the left due to issues like misandry festering on the right. But not like the right doesn't also have misandry, but it also does have more calling out the issues on the left.

There's some men only queer spaces still, but they're usually sex or kink focused at ticketed events and not public bars (which allows them to be single gender). If you're in a closed relationship, may not be best. I recall one bi guy in a marriage to a woman used to attend some kink men's only kink event and only do kink non-sexual play; he was delightful fella. I've been thinking lately about how some dialogue on the left contributes to people developing/leaning in on victim complex, and how detrimental that has been for myself as a trans guy. We're like primed to be always on the lookout for some types of bigotry, to assume the worst in people, to be on attack, to be bullies. It allows us to justify bad behaviour based of our demographic, while also making it harder to feel agency in our own life? I'm still sorting out my feelings on this, but I want …

It's pretty normal look for queer folk. Not conforming to gender or society norms, while confirming to queer norms lol. I'm been wondering if such sub existed yet. I think being specifically trans puts some of us in unique spot to talk about these issues to the left/progresses, as trans folk have increased social capital within some of those circles, and many know what both experiencing misandry and misogyny is like so may be more likely to be listened sometimes. Being able to organize and figure out best strategies is useful.

Ubisoft for the most part has been amazing at this -- the latest AC games and my fav, the Fenyx rising game with the stupidly long title. Not having more women characters to play was an issue (which tmk has mostly been fixed as far as I can tell via a lot of games offering both and more games featuring women main characters). That wasn't good either. Two wrongs don't make a right. Not having enough women characters and calling people sexists for being upset that the main character changed genders are both bad. > It’s just another way to control male behavior, you must get ongoing enthusiastic consent, but she may also retroactively withdraw consent is she so chooses. I have never understood the logic behind retroactively withdrawing consent. Time machines ain't a thing. Like, people can regret consensual sex, that happens, it doesn't make it non-consentual, how is it okay to make someone a rapists later? In practice as a gay in a sex queer positive communities that talk about consent a lot (including …

Knowing both cis men and trans men, it's mostly nurture. Per studies, trans people have mixed sex brains even prior to medical transition, e.g. trans men brains lean towards male with one theory that parts of brains get configured to/towards "male" gender identity during fetal development (w/ non-binary folk getting more mixed configuration). Brians continue to grow so later hormones likely effects them contributing to the more mixed state. So, it can be said trans men have "nature" of men so ca…

There's those issues and just like the whole standard that hurt women can say m.n are trash because of the negative experiences they have had with men, but hurt men can not say the same about women about women without being shamed and banned, contributing to abused men being isolated. Abused men just gotta deal with abuse from the demographic that abused them without complaint 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ it's such brainrot logic (saying as som…

Because more people personally (at least on the left) have friends that are outwardly feminist or at least noticeable, it's dampers this effect, that's not the case for most people on the left -- I know only one friend who has uses the label MRA and majority of my friends are (queer) men. E.g. having people more opening advocating for men and using MRA label in everyday life should counteract this effect.

People judge movements based of the most annoying, loudest people in the movement on all sides. Both for feminism and MRA issues are some extremely sexists loud people who's voices can dominate the dialogue. IIRC Toxic masculinity was conned by a man within a movement that could be considered men's rights but probably not "Men's Rights" (as in that's not how it labeled itself) But, a movement conning a term or phrase that is itself bad isn't specific to men's issues . I would suggest reading some more posts before commenting. Thanks for engaging with the sub tho. This sub is fairly critical of feminism, but it's needed as some parts of feminism have ending up hurting men. Unfortunately, framing society's issues based of men as oppressor/ women as oppressed and "The Patriarchy" has contributed to a lot of hurt towards men, and for men's issues to be ignored (and even worse, for some men to be abused and isolated by those who blame men for their issues cause Fe…

To add onto other's ideas, point out the ways the feminism also hurts women. We need to get more women involved because women and feminism men will believe women more. There's various ways that some type of progressive activism hurts everyone. By alienating men, not only do we hurt men, we increase issues women face. By alienating white folk, not only do we hurt folk, we reduce support for POC and increase racism. By alienating straight cis folk, not only do we hurt straight cis folk, we reduce …

An example of this is in higher education. Women are 60% of college admissions iirc, and there's still efforts to increase women attendance due previous discrimination. There's been an overcorrection. I find it very very worrying when society starts acting like rape is the worst thing that could happen to a person. In progressive spaces, I believe being able to voice how some behaviour is harmful can be useful for people taking the issue serious, so I've been working on a list of causes, harms, and potential messaging/actions to try and fix things forward I play to eventually post here and elsewhere, but figured I'd post the current draft of "harm" section here: (would have added this to original comment but too long) Men feeling hated, and all the effects of that on the self (suicide, SI, eating disorders…

These issues are not just online, and internet stuff effect people in real life/. There's plenty of real word examples here and elsewhere of how people experiencing misandry in perso I remember being at a *gay* kink party, talking to another trans guy who was a self identified misandrist, it was such an odd and very sad conversation -- he hated those he wanted to be with, and I'd guess himself for being a man. There's been some talk about this in trans subs, predating the election -- people not …

Huh, thanks for the history. My mum hit/attacked my dad and brother when I was a child. As a trans guy, being raised a "girl" saved me from that -- she distinctly had issues with males. The only "excuse" I've heard for why males is that her father neglected her. This was back in the 90s. I wonder if some feminists ideas like this effected her justification of her abuse. Unequal power dynamics, viewing someone as bad, may contribute to abuse -- e.g. the framing some feminists have of men as bad m…

Take care of yourself. I appreciate your post and messaging. I agree -- "Society is a group project," we all play into these issues, so we need to work on this together. Overly blaming feminism isn't useful, as as you said, it does play a part, overly blaming feminism tends to alienate women (due to how important feminism has been in securing rights and bringing up conversations). I sorta think some of the response to you was rooted in backlash against feminism framing? Talking about how we all …

It's so odd that people understand why a black men would be negatively effected by negative stereotypes for being black, but not for being a men.

There was a post here a couple days ago that clearly outlined how toxic masculinity is just misandry but labeled by feminist in a way that is demonizing masculinity more then it's helping address these issues.

It's interesting to have these conversations about men feeling alienated and why and that some men will jump in and say they can handle the negative stereotyping, and mock the men trying to bring up these issues -- similar behaviour. An interesting comparison is with us trans men. I don't tend to see such behaviour within trans men groups, which do tend to support each other. The important part of that is per brain studies, trans folks have mixed brains that are towards the gender they identify …

I think that sorta is the issue with us humans. When we're angry, we want to direct it somewhere. We all have biases, and like society sucks atm so lot of us have a lot of anger. The right wing media smartly directs that anger at small minorities that don't have much power. The left fucked up and directed anger at majorities based of birth characteristics, instead of focusing it on those really doing the most damage (the greedy, etc). The vast majority of people have some majority of birth chara…

Reddit adding subs to feeds dilutes them. I never subbed to the sub but reddit suggests posts to me from it, and sometimes I comment on posts without thinking -- so I'm a bit of the problem. But yea, when I have noticed a posts were from the sub, I was suprised by the lack of skepticism.

My impression has been it's mostly been male politicians introducing abortion laws, and the association is due to that. But that's partially due to the majority of politicians also being men. 28% of congress was women in 2023 from a quick google. The majority of pro-life protests I've seen have been mostly women tho. 54% of white women voted Trump iirc. Yet so many blamed sexism against Kamala for being a women -- which was likely a factor, but so likely was sexism against men depressing dem tur…

On youtube, yes, quite a lot, it's just very diverse in views and each doesn't get as much views as on the right. It's probably one of the reasons we likely have so much problem keeping in power -- harder for one single candidate to meet everyone's needs. As far as mainstream media... Somewhat...? A lot of investigative journalists are probably "left" but try for unbiased, but the right has gotten so insane that they overcorrect and ended up biased towards the right in some respects (sane washin…

My experience as someone deep in the left who's taken classes in feminism (...like twenty years ago XD), it think it's the mainstream-ification of some feminist ideas ("mainstream feminism") which strips all nuances more then academic/modern feminism. I wonder how much it's also deliberate stirring of culture issues to rage bait/karma farm and distract us from other issues. Feminism is an giant umbrella term As a trans guy, I consider TERFs (trans exclusionary radical feminism) to be tranphobic,…

Best to stick to misandry then. Woke original def: "1930s or earlier been used to refer to awareness of social and political issues affecting African Americans, often in the construction stay woke." The right took the term and made it apply to lot more and use it attack anything, so yea using it via that broader umbrella is gonna get associated with the right cause their the ones that umbrella'd it.

Yea, being trans men in left spaces is ... interesting. We're treated as not men by some. "We didn't mean you" type deal. But minority men also experience the effects of having men's issues being downplayed, and being feared and hated builds up, and effects our well being. There's trans folk posting to trans guy subs about this, people hesitant to transiton towards men cause they don't want to be hated by their community. I have been trying to bring up that when people say "men are trash", they'…

> Boys will sometimes literally just take the beating rather than fight back against a girl. Not an example of a boy, but that's how my dad responded to my mum's abuse. Just stood there taking the hits. Which was better then hitting back, but he should have gotten the divorce sooner instead of those years of abuse. (She's doing now after years of therapy and is an active part of my life. I barely talk to him as his next wife isolated him from me / my full siblings. I wonder what would have happe…

Reddit has made me realize the right is right about how the left treats men, but the right is wrong about how to fix most issues. They're very good at identifying an issue and exploiting it for gain of a few. Reddit can be an echo chamber. Many in person progressive spaces are not this bad, tho as a gay trans guy, the ones I gravitate to are men centering progressive where I tend to be a token trans so like my experience is biased af. I need the left. The left is only one looking out for us tran…

This is part that's really frustrating me. Saying as a trans man, we need to fix this for all of our safety. The right wants us trans folk gone. But when I say that we need to work together and please stop stereotyping men as trash and take men's issues seriously, I'm told it's me and other men have to do all the work while they mock men for being upset about stereotyping. It really gives the impression that some of them only care about helping men when it benefits them. There's only so much we …

Reading this five months in the future... Welp, the votes are in. More men are turning right x.x but others are checking out. Hopefully this will be a wake up call.... But as I ended up here looking for some support after dealing with some shit, I'm pessimistic.
