DIRECT EXPENSES isn't this a state by state thing? I don't think there's such a thing in Massachusetts.

You're conflating capitalism's exploitation of the second income with giving women rights. That nostalgia for the man's salary supporting a family was done away with by corporate greed and standard of living increases. The government has made it worse by giving tax breaks to corps and the rich and refusing to increase wages in line with inflation, which has been made worse by increasing national debt. American's pay hasn't increased in decades when inflation adjust

For example, republicans voted for the voting rights bill in 2006, and 16 years later, they all vote against it.. https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/2006/07/21/voting-rights-act-extension-passes-in-senate-98-to-0/c3abf755-b0b3-4dfe-bf28-adaf4e131c61/?itid=lk_inline_manual_3

Because the gender disparity makes it look like women are at a disadvantage. It's just a heavy handed attempt to "fix" the disparity. The only bad part is, is the assumption that the reason more women aren't programmers is because men are keeping them out. That may actually have been true, until fairly recently, like the 90's.

The rule this post is about is for 6th week. So we are not talking about fetuses. Where are you getting that from? My example was for embryos, because that's what get frozen, we don't freeze fetuses.
/r/MensRights04/09/21 02:02 PM
1

By definition "An embryo is termed a fetus beginning in the 11th week" so yeah, it's about embryos. But the point of my argument was to point out that an aware child is more important than 100 possibilities.

a life is a life is a ridiculous statement to make.
/r/MensRights03/09/21 06:37 PM

They are not human beings, any more than a cut out appendix is. You have provided nothing to back up your claim that an embryo is a child. The word derivation has no bearing on the actual cells. It is not a person until it is actualized.
/r/MensRights03/09/21 02:14 PM
0

You need to back up the assertion. There's nothing in "science" that says an embryo is a child. You're completely ignoring the argument from before and just asserting your position with nothing to base them on.
/r/MensRights03/09/21 02:07 PM

Appeal to emotion again. "Murder her child"? We just got through how an embryo is NOT a child. FFS, it's nothing but a part of the person until it can survive outside. If you want to go all conservative then stick to it. The bible says the child doesn't get a soul until 6 days after it's born. The only abortion mentioned in the bible is explaining how to do it. If you don't want to go biblical, then without all the modern science and care (or, if you like, in the US when you don't have insurance…
/r/MensRights03/09/21 01:58 PM

that edit is away from the point of the argument. The first "well if we have to, then they have to" is dumb. Go the other way "if they get to, so should we" and I'm all for that. If someone wants the child, the other shouldn't be forced to support it, whether that's the father or mother.
/r/MensRights03/09/21 01:45 PM
1

sort of the point. Embryos inside someone are not as important as the someone they're inside.
/r/MensRights03/09/21 01:42 PM
1

not an equivalent comparison. the 5 year old had no connection to you. Your wife does, that's a different situation. The article you link actually does the opposite of "tearing it asunder". It literally explains why embryos are not important compared to a thinking feeling person. So saving embryos inside a person is exactly the same. They are not thinking or feeling, and so only have potential. The person they're in is infinitely more valuable and important and should be protected.
/r/MensRights03/09/21 01:41 PM
1

yes, but my mass of cells can exist, feel, think. I refer you back to my thought experiment, do you save the 100 frozen embryo tank or the 5 year old?
/r/MensRights03/09/21 02:32 AM
1

Do you agree with men being forced to pay child support?
/r/MensRights03/09/21 02:20 AM

property rights of a mass of cells rather than the thinking feeling host? Where do you draw the line of human?
/r/MensRights03/09/21 02:18 AM
0

They are living human cells, not exactly distinct from the host, and certainly NOT American, as the definition requires it to be born in the US. That is no different than cancer cells, however. Your argument still falls short. Should people face jail for excising cancer cells?
/r/MensRights02/09/21 06:30 PM
1

You further establishment is addressed by my cheek cell comment. It's based on a feeling, on your part, that certain collection of cells are more important than the thinking person hosting them. So I ask again, what distinguishes those cells from others in the body? Your moral posing is full of suppositions and appeals to emotion.
/r/MensRights02/09/21 03:22 PM

life and human life are different things. Do you think a beating heart in a petri dish is considered life? I think that the term "life" needs further specificity, as a cheek cell sample is also life and is also human, but no one is lamenting the deaths of millions of them by eating something like pineapple.
/r/MensRights02/09/21 02:35 PM

Kind of my point. I think my wording is off there, or punctuation or something. Trying to say "What science says that?"
/r/MensRights02/09/21 02:33 PM

Didn't you also argue that "moment the sperm meets the egg, new life, new human life, is created" by that definition, frozen embryos should be far better than the 5 year old child. The utilitarian example you're using is a strawman, as it requires killing one to save 5, where my example doesn't require that. There is a difference between intentional killing and the choice of the better of two options. Mine is more like triage, and yours is more like the mad scientist.
/r/MensRights02/09/21 01:04 PM

There's a great thought experiment I read, can't remember the person. You're in a fertility clinic. There's a fire. You only have the chance to save either the 5 year old whimpering in the corner, or the vat of 100 frozen embryos. Which do you choose? There is only one correct answer, and it shows the lie to your position.
/r/MensRights02/09/21 12:41 PM

What science says life is not created on "inception" ? That's religious bs.

I wouldn't go that far. Men are being sidelined, our issues dismissed and ignored. People aren't boycotting things because they're hetero males, it's more about people trying to raise other groups higher than men. Getting to equality should be the goal all around. It's easiest to point out when that happens when others raise problems that aren't specific to their group alone, and makes it seem like we're saying "you shouldn't complain about that because it's happening to us too".

assuming you're being serious; men have in fact seen dire repercussions from flirting. If a woman decides she doesn't like you, any advance can be (and has been) seen as some sort of assault.

Right, that's why I said it should be that neither would have to keep it. Since we're talking about how things should be, and the statement was "man's input is disregarded", what would logically follow is that due to the man's input, she'd be forced to carry the child to term.
/r/MensRights02/07/18 07:11 PM

Heartbreaking, maybe, but rather unfair to think she should have to keep it just because he wants it. Neither should have to keep it.

I keep hearing about Odeh being involved, but I can't find a single credible source that shows any connection. Even the post article you link to says the Guardian has a manifesto by her, but the link doesn't have anything about that. Just her name as a tag.

/r/MensRights28/07/16 07:13 PM

you're only saying that because of the "mansplaining" and "manspreading" derogatory words that gained popularity recently. I'd have to agree, to some extent, as well as getting away from "man" meaning "human." Anyway, that's not the point here, it's doing a good job of poking some seriousness into those other words, and bringing to light a real problem that's too often ignored.

Funny thing about language, if it's too hard to say/use it'll change. While I agree with you, especially because I'm in the States, I find it hilarious the way the British take it to an extreme. They change the pronunciation to follow spelling rules. So you hear Gordon Ramsey say fill-ets.

There came a series of posts by Beale tagged “McRapey,” in which Beale called Scalzi a “gamma male” and “rabbit” — terms respectively associated with the “men’s rights” activist movement that decries gains made by women and theory of “Game” practiced by would-be pick-up artists, though Beale disavows membership in such a group.

As said below, good for you! Humans are strange in that it is difficult when in such a situation to leave, yet when looking in one thinks "Abuse and cheating, why ever stay?" The point, I suppose, is that there are assholes everywhere, but to label men as if it is par for the course for them to ridicule their SO's physical attributes is insulting.

school is a cruel time for everyone. While this article is dealing with teenagers still, when they say men, I envision a bunch of guys at a bar. If I imagine the same scenario with women instead, guess which is more critical about appearances? Guys generally banter with objectification where as women tend to banter with criticism. At least in my head.

This is a pretty bad list. It's half full of one position with many examples, that men are supposed to be emotionally tough and guarded and women aren't. If you take out those then you're left with a much shorter (and better) list. Once that's done, add in the REAL advantages such as a much lower chance of being convicted of the same crime, a much lower sentence for same crime, a much greater chance of going to college. A much lower chance of being killed at war and so on. I've seen some other o…

Nope, watched it now. I still maintain it's a police ego thing, but you're right, if it was threatened on a woman he'd likely be transferred. When's the last time you saw a cop get fired?

It isn't the rape threat, it's the police ego. If it were a guy on the other end he'd probably tell them they'd be killed. Neither is acceptable, and both stem from the police attitude. That doesn't lend weight to the argument that "there is no scientific evidence that women have a decline in sexual interest." Your comment below is what I was referring to speaking about goals and motivations.
/r/MensRights02/09/10 07:24 PM
2

really? The article linked above says otherwise. I do agree with part of what you're saying though. I believe the motivations for sex change due to goals changing. Once you've got the man and the kid now you want to have sex for another reason. The menopause changes the hormone levels, and the motivations change again.

Did you guys hear the thing on "On Point" the other day about the marriage thing? I heard the first 10 minutes or something and I was so frustrated I had to turn it off. Basically they're blaming men because women who suddenly want to have sex again after they're 40 and the men don't want to. Yeah, 15 years of not so gentle put downs and conditioning of sex is off the table really makes men want to do it with you right?
