Ah, this kind of thing is why I never bother to meet with my advisors.

That's fine and all, but I'm not willing to wait for society to change in order for me or him to get those benefits.

Not exactly surprising in South Africa. Still absolutely horrible though.

It is unfortunate that this lie is still being perpetuated by feminists. Just last week, one of my friends who is a feminist posted an article about it and talked about how it was too bad she didn't get paid the same as a man for doing the same work. Ugh.

I ended up editing it out myself, but now I can't remember the guy's name so I can only hope that one of his faithful acolytes didn't come to the rescue. As for Gawker, I hate it when I see someone post a headline, then I click on it, and lo and behold, it's Gawker. I can't believe it's considered a legitimate news source.

Great video. I know numerous men who were abused by women, but they are very hesitant to talk about it because of the stigma. I don't blame them.

This reminds me of a time I was shown the Wikipedia article of some popular new age writer. In the article, it said he was a physicist and biologist. The source? His website, wherein he claimed he had multiple careers but didn't actually list his degrees or what colleges he had gone to. However, since the Wiki editor had linked to a source, I guess that makes his claim valid. :s

As someone else mentioned, there are various benefits you get when married. The most important to me is that you are given the right to visit your spouse when they are incapacitated in the hospital during hours other than those designated for visiting. On top of that, you are allowed to make decisions for them during that time. This can go horribly wrong of course. For me personally, I would not want such an important decision to rest on my family. I prefer that my husband be allowed to make suc…

In my experience, men aren't the ones who have a big issue with women being overweight; it's women. We are exceptionally harsh on ourselves and other women. It doesn't really bother me personally that other men or women are overweight (unless they constantly feel the need to whine about it but refuse to change their lifestyle - that is annoying), but it seriously bothers me when I gain a few pounds. At the same time, it's never actually been an issue when it comes to attracting men. It's a perso…

OP, I am glad you're willing to look into this more. Please continue to do research. I was a radical feminist for about 12 years before I met my husband. He was a feminist too but was growing more disillusioned with the "movement." He began questioning certain aspects and bringing up those questions to me. I was pretty resistant at first but then I did my research too. I now consider myself an egalitarian and want nothing to do with the label "feminist." Send me a message sometime if you have an…

This does not surprise me at all. I live in the south, which is supposedly a bastion of "patriarchy," right? WRONG. If anything, it's a god damn matriarchy down here, at least in the small town where I live. I much prefer working jobs where there is a mix of both men and women. In my experience, there is far less drama.

Love this comic. I see a lot of my liberal arts major friends bitching about the lack of women in STEM fields. One of them in particular was whining about her astronomy teacher making some comment about men being better at astronomy and chemistry and women being better at biology. She wanted to contact her college about it and possibly sue the guy. I suggested that she try to do well in the class to prove him wrong. Her response was something to the effect of, "well it would be easier to get him…
