Try to cut it like how they treat alcoholism or any other addictions: Very gradually. But I guess the studies can still be fairly accurate given that it is only about bodily attractiveness holding everything else fixed (like personalities, interactions, affluence, situations, fashion, etc.), and bodily attractiveness can be reasonably rated through sit-down A/B testings. If you study statistics, it's the basis of all hypothesis tests. You can never test the whole world's population so you must choose a sample that can represent the population as closely as possible. In this study, they used samples of college men from US and Australia and college women as raters. So you could reasonably say this research's result applies very well to Western college-aged population.
