So your claim is based on what you’ve personally observed? That’s still anecdotal evidence and highly susceptible to bias. “Some form” isn’t deliberately nebulous. The specific forms of violence are clearly defined in the respective studies. If you have comparable population-level evidence supporting your claim, I’d genuinely be interested in seeing it.

Maybe go outside if you actually believe that. People discuss relationships in real life all the time, and large age gaps have been a topic of discussion long before the internet existed. What can I do about a particular relationship? Nothing. But discussing potential risk factors so people can recognize them and make informed decisions is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. That’s true for age gaps and countless other relationship dynamics.
/r/PurplePillDebate24/07/26 08:50 PM

By that logic, we shouldn’t discuss any relationship dynamics at all as long as both people consent. Yet people constantly discuss red flags, power imbalances, financial dependence, or emotional manipulation between consenting adults. That’s a normal part of how people think about relationships and social dynamics. These conversations can help people become more aware of potential risks and make better-informed decisions for themselves. Where’s the problem?

The issue most people raise isn’t that anyone over 30 is an “past-their-prime ghoul” or that attraction suddenly becomes impossible. It’s that, as age gaps become larger (especially when one person is very young) the likelihood of differences in life experience, financial independence, and power can increase. That doesn’t make every such relationship unhealthy, but it does make those factors worth considering. You’re arguing against the claim that ALL age-gap relationships are transactional or e…

Maybe in your head it has been. But everyone else here is discussing whether men and women are / should be treated equally, so naturally people will assume the same scenario with the roles reversed. And please provide a source before throwing around claims like, “domestic violence is mostly perpetrated by women according to self-reported surveys.”
/r/PurplePillDebate20/07/26 07:44 PM

It does. And I assume those same people would also judge a significantly older woman dating, say, a 19-year-old man. So I don’t think this is primarily about gender. It’s about the power imbalance between a much older person and a very young / much younger adult. The difference is that one scenario is simply far more common than the other (older men dating younger women).

I honestly don’t get what point you’re trying to make. I’m talking about the perpetrator’s responsibility for the harm they choose to inflict, not the victim’s response. If a woman initiates violence and a man reacts, you’ve completely changed the scenario. My point was about the responsibility of the person initiating violence while knowing they’re capable of causing far greater harm.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/07/26 07:09 PM

So, in your opinion, the outcome shouldn’t matter? Even though men generally know they’re physically stronger and should act accordingly? I’m not saying women should face no consequences for being violent. But the outcome does matter, especially when the likely consequences are foreseeable.

I literally never denied that humans make individual choices. My entire point is that societal factors influence those choices, often to a substantial degree. I’m talking about “men” because we’re discussing a broad gendered pattern. Of course individual men have different reasons, but if the overwhelming majority of men make the same choice while women behave very differently, that pattern requires more than an individual-level explanation. No, I haven’t read that particular book. I’ve read ple…

Ffs. You seem to disagree with this statement: “Your choices are shaped by the society you live in and the way you were brought up. Yes, people still have agency, but their choices are not completely free or independent of social influences.” And that’s exactly what the book you linked argues. Now to the specific example and your take on it: „This takes away a great deal of autonomy from humans and makes us sound like a hive mind. Nobody is choosing or not choosing to wear make up for these reas…

Can you name a single peer-reviewed study concluding that society plays no role in shaping human behavior? Edit (since you added that Wikipedia link later): Thanks for supporting what I’m trying to say. The Sociological Imagination is actually one of the classic works arguing that individual choices can’t be understood independently of their social context.

You should probably read a book on psychology or sociology before confidently rejecting what decades of empirical research have consistently shown.

Let’s assume your oversimplified claim is true and only women judge other women. That still wouldn’t mean women alone created these norms. Men raise daughters too. Men shaped laws, marriage, work and domestic roles. Not long ago, women were expected to stay home, cook and clean largely within systems controlled by men. Taking one variable that supports your narrative and using it to „perfectly“ explain complex human behavior is just stupid. I’m not even saying neuroticism has no effect. I’m sayi…
/r/PurplePillDebate16/07/26 04:50 PM

It’s not. Have you even read my comment? I never claimed that social pressure causes neuroticism. My point is that you’re assuming one specific causal pathway without evidence while ignoring other plausible explanations, including socialization and reinforcement of both men’s and women’s behavior. Men don’t exist outside this equation, and social pressure certainly isn’t created by women alone. Why are you so determined to make women solely responsible?
/r/PurplePillDebate16/07/26 02:11 PM
2

That’s a remarkably simplistic leap. Women score higher on Neuroticism on average, sure. There usually is a small-to-moderate difference with massive overlap between the sexes. It doesn’t remotely establish that women clean more because they’re irrationally anxious about dust. You’re taking one personality trait and declaring it the explanation for an entire social phenomenon while ignoring decades of research on gender socialization, division of household labor, and norms around domestic respon…

You and OP are making a causal claim that the evidence does not establish. Yes, some studies find that women report higher cleanliness standards on average. But that does not prove women are naturally cleaner and that these standards developed independently of gender roles and social expectations. An equally plausible explanation is that many men learn that if they ignore domestic work long enough, a woman will eventually do it. That makes the status quo very comfortable for them. It does not me…

That’s honestly one of the funniest / stupidest things I’ve read today. Men are overwhelmingly the consumers of porn, prostitution, and OnlyFans. They create the demand that keeps these industries alive. No demand -> no supply, that’s just basic economics. Many men also consume content where there’s a very real possibility of exploitation or even trafficking, yet somehow the woman who voluntarily sells content is the immoral one? It’s also not a coincidence that a growing number of countries are…

First of all, you come across as misogynistic (also looking at your comment history), and I think that probably plays a much bigger role in your dating problems than being “average.” Your whole argument is based on the assumption that average women no longer want average men. That’s a massive generalization, and reality is nowhere near that simple. My anecdotal experience certainly doesn’t support it either. And why do you assume these men are “genuinely appreciated and desired” in those countri…

I need to chime in here. You’re listing problems with agriculture as if animal farming somehow exists without crops. It doesn’t. Huge amounts of land, water, and feed are used to raise animals, so eating them adds another resource-intensive step. Nobody claims every vegan product is sustainable, and you conveniently mentioned avocados because they aren’t. But vegans don’t eat avocados all day long, and people who eat meat eat avocados too. So using avocados as if they were a substitute for meat …

You’re dismissing anonymous data (which substantially reduces the influence of social desirability bias) in favor of your own personal opinion, then calling the poll worthless. That’s hilarious.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/07/26 11:06 AM

Yes you definitely do.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/07/26 02:39 PM

Nah, always state your source if you throw out statements like that. Google is not a valid source btw.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/07/26 02:37 PM

That’s not what I said at all. Commitment doesn’t mean staying in every relationship regardless of what happens. It means not treating every hardship as a reason to leave. There’s a difference between an abusive or fundamentally incompatible relationship and a partner going through illness, depression, trauma, or another difficult period. If someone’s first instinct is to leave because their partner temporarily can’t have or doesn’t want sex, then we simply have different ideas of what commitmen…

A few of the claims you’re making are much stronger than the evidence supports. For example, grading bias has been found in some studies. However, it’s not accurate to say that this has been established in every OECD country. The evidence is more mixed. Some studies find a disadvantage for boys, others find little or no bias, and some even find advantages for boys depending on the subject and context. The underlying causes are also still debated. Likewise, I’m not aware of any OECD country where…

My autocorrect used „at“ instead of „are“. But I think my question should have still been understandable, no?
/r/PurplePillDebate29/06/26 09:30 AM

So objectification and sexualization are the same thing to you? Edit: Are instead of at.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/06/26 09:08 AM

I disagree. I see commitment as part of a long term relationship, married or not. If my partner will drop me as soon as I have any kind of illness that prevents me from having or wanting sex, I don’t want to be with that person in the first place. There’s much more to relationships than sex. And there will be rough times in most (if not all) relationships. And I’m not saying that divorce or a breakup should never be an option btw.

Up to 10% is supported by some studies, but it represents the upper end of the range reported in the literature, not an accepted prevalence estimate. There is also no evidence that false allegations are „by nature“ systematically underreported.

This sounds like you’re sure she did harass him and is guilty. Either way, humans are selfish and should be, to some degree. Being falsely accused of a crime is a great example where one can and should be selfish. If he lied, he’s the one that harmed real victims. Not her.

Stop assuming things about a stranger on the internet instead of offering actual arguments. You should know better if you’re so old. :) You’re taking a complex social change and reducing it to “anti-feminists changed it” and “women/feminists only want equality when it benefits them.” That’s an incredibly simplistic worldview. The expectation that men pay wasn’t something women imposed on men. It was a social norm that many men and women supported and reinforced. Social norms are complex and take…

I explicitly said “my personal opinion and experience.” What don’t you understand about that?
/r/PurplePillDebate22/06/26 02:08 PM

Because you state your personal opinion like it’s a general fact and known causality. Call it your personal opinion, then I’m ok with that.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/06/26 12:45 PM

Like I said, my personal opinion and experience. I didn’t state it as a given general fact.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/06/26 08:26 AM

Do you have any good sources for that generalization or is that just your personal (biased) opinion? Because my personal opinion and experience is very different to yours.

Are you aware that wether or not you enjoy a date mostly depends on the person sitting in front of you?
/r/PurplePillDebate22/06/26 07:31 AM

And yet, some men here really seem to think that splitting the bill getting more common is the achievement of anti-feminist men …
/r/PurplePillDebate22/06/26 05:17 AM

Where do you take that rather simple-minded causality from? My expectations are definitely not formed by anti-feminist men. I just find it nicer to split the bill and suggest it before the man needs to / can say „I’ll pay“. Makes the situation much easier to handle for both parties involved.

Where’s your source to that claim?
/r/PurplePillDebate19/06/26 06:40 PM

Why do you think most women are utterly unwilling to show empathy to men? Serious question, because I genuinely don’t think that’s true. What I said was that certain men’s issues are often met with less empathy than they should be. But that isn’t something women uniquely do. Men often contribute to the same problem, for example by raising boys differently, discouraging emotional expression, and reinforcing the idea that vulnerability is weakness. That doesn’t mean women as a group don’t care abo…

And?
/r/PurplePillDebate17/06/26 06:33 PM

Some comments here are genuinely mind-blowing. I have to keep reminding myself that people on this sub are probably not representative of the general population. At least I hope they aren’t.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/06/26 06:31 PM

I must admit, comments like this make it easier to understand why some people struggle to empathize with you. You’re arguing that because you feel wronged, you should care less about other people. That’s not a lack of empathy from society, that’s a character flaw. Grow up.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/06/26 06:26 PM

If nobody deserves anything and nobody is entitled to anything, then on what basis would you oppose theft, exploitation, slavery, abuse, or violations of human rights?
/r/PurplePillDebate17/06/26 06:21 PM

Men not receiving enough empathy is an argument for showing men more empathy, not for showing women less. Otherwise you’re not solving the problem, you’re just creating more of it.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/06/26 06:18 PM

Uhm… you don’t have to do anything, as long as you’re acting within the law. If your beliefs about human rights, safety, and basic decency depend on a person’s gender, then I find that highly questionable. But you’re obviously free to believe whatever you want, vote however you want, and act accordingly. I never argued otherwise. What I do find laughable is comparing support for basic human rights with women not sleeping with men they aren’t attracted to. Those things are not remotely comparable…

Oh please, you can’t be serious. All the things listed literally are for women AND men. No woman I know wants universal healthcare only for women, for example.

I think you’re conflating two very different ideas. Nobody being entitled to something is not the same thing as nobody having moral obligations toward anyone else. Nobody owes me a relationship, sex, attraction, or friendship because those things involve personal autonomy and consent. But that doesn’t mean people should stop caring about loneliness, discrimination, violence, poverty, or other problems that affect human beings. Your examples also aren’t really symmetrical. A woman choosing not to…

Some women may genuinely prefer traditional or patriarchal gender roles, and that’s their right. But we should also acknowledge that people’s preferences are heavily shaped by the culture they grow up in. If you’ve been taught from childhood that a certain role is natural, moral, or expected, that will inevitably influence how you see your options.

He does not pay them. He specifically targets vulnerable women and girls. He uses grooming tactics, including the so-called lover-boy method, to manipulate and exploit them. Most victims are young, isolated, financially disadvantaged, or otherwise vulnerable. Not to mention him often using violence to get what he wants against their will. But yeah, let’s call his victims stupid and act like it’s a transaction between consenting adults, where both get what they want …
