So you are making a philosophical statement. Physics does not make any statements about determinism. It uses logical positivism. You will realize that once you bring quantum mechanics into the picture. The different interpretations of what quantum mechanics means in the real world are of philosophical nature.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/09/15 09:28 PM

Not really. That's like saying that weather or the stock market is preprogrammed. It is a complex system and there is stochasticity involved at all levels, especially at the level of neural networks. Unless you are making a philosophical statement about determinism. But that's not really much use to anyone.

Well, before you can discuss the consequences of blank slate, you will need to make sure that the blank slate is a valid premise. If you accept the scientific method, this is not the case, so any discussion based on it is simply a waste of time. It's like saying 1+1=3 and now I'm gonna derive Mathematics from that. Trying to have a debate with people that believe in blank slate is like having a debate with people that believe in creationism or homeopathy. They reject the scientific method. So be…

the idea that people start off their life as blank slates and that their entire personality (including their sexual preferences) is purely the product of their milieu. The idea of a 'tabula rasa' is just as ridiculous and scientifically unsound as the idea that everything is preprogrammed. There is overwhelming evidence against tabula rasa that comes from multiple twin and adoption studies, studies on newborns, as well as genomics. So I'm not sure why you bring this up here. Only someone who has…

I'm not sure how you can make the jump from "the man is in a terrible situation" to "the man is unhappy". These are two pairs of shoes. I agree, some people are more susceptible to becoming unhappy in these types of situation, however people with a strong inner will are not susceptible to those external factors.
/r/PurplePillDebate12/09/15 05:25 PM
1

Well, at this point you are just stating that attaining complete internal happiness is impossible without giving supporting arguments. That's fine. This is not a scientific or philosophical debate. It's a personal thing. If you are able to find happiness by relying on external validation, no one will be able to tell you that you are wrong.

In Syria there will be two kinds of people: Those that say the world is unfair, why me, I'm fucked and be unhappy and those that realize that the circumstances are external and have nothing to do with the own state of mind. The latter will make the best of the situation, whatever that may be, but they most certainly would not be unhappy. If you live in the Arctic Circle, you can spend every minute thinking about how shitty your life is and how much better it would be in Europe or you can deal wi…

"My happiness depends only on external states I have no control over." How can we change that statement to something more useful? "My happiness depends only on internal states I have control over". The only thing I'm doing is reiterating the old phrase "happiness comes from within". How you exactly achieve this internal state of happiness that you have complete control over is completely up to you. But the first step is to recognise that being in complete control of ones happiness is the only re…

Look, you can give it all kinds of different names and do social analysis and whatever, but all I'm saying is that happiness comes from within. If you base your happiness on external factors, your happiness will be depending on those external factors. It's really as easy as that. You are being sexually marginalised? Why should that affect your happiness in any way? Only an idiot you would make his internal state dependent on the outside world.
/r/PurplePillDebate12/09/15 11:57 AM

Your thought process is "I am unhappy because of this and that and there is nothing I can do about it". "My happiness depends only on external states I have no control over." Fine, I get it, you are unhappy. There is nothing you can do about it. Problem solved.
/r/PurplePillDebate12/09/15 09:51 AM

Yes, I have been well acquainted with your thought process: "I think, therefore I am." "I think I am a loser, therefore I am a loser." "I think I am unhappy, therefore I am unhappy."
/r/PurplePillDebate12/09/15 09:24 AM
1

Again, you are using empty phrases instead of making an actual argument. Look, I get it, the search for happiness is not as graspable as 'how to get laid'. The end result is vague and less measurable. Does that mean that we should stop talking about it? - Probably.
/r/PurplePillDebate12/09/15 09:18 AM

Your point of view simply lacks substance. lol, what does that even mean? "Lacks substance", haha. How about using arguments instead of empty phrases?
/r/PurplePillDebate12/09/15 09:07 AM

You mean it can't be challenged just like TRP can't be challenged. I agree. Then don't act like you are challenging it!
/r/PurplePillDebate12/09/15 08:57 AM
1

Haha, you guys certainly excel at self-congratulatory circle jerk. Keep it up! For the record, this post did nothing to challenge the view that in order to maximize happiness, you need to make it independent of the amount of sex you get.
/r/PurplePillDebate12/09/15 08:01 AM
1

There is no "you ought to do that" involved. Also, it takes quite some imagination to assume that I'm a feminist. My only concern is personal happiness and if you don't want to find happiness that's your personal choice, no one gives a shit if you don't.
/r/PurplePillDebate12/09/15 07:58 AM

Haha, how about stop being such a puny loser and actually challenging any of my ideas?
/r/PurplePillDebate12/09/15 07:55 AM

No one says "shut up and be happy". There is no 'ought' involved. This is a process of self-knowledge. But some people on here seem to have evolved some kind of immunity toward that.
/r/PurplePillDebate12/09/15 07:53 AM

Are you dumb? That's exactly what separates humans from animals. Humans can have an innate sex drive plus they can have rational thought about this sex drive.
/r/PurplePillDebate12/09/15 07:51 AM
1

Well, this really is a no-brainer. "My happiness is based on how much sex I get" vs. "I am happy no matter how much sex I get". Who will be happier of the two? I am amazed at the amount of stupidity in here.
/r/PurplePillDebate12/09/15 07:47 AM
1

OK, so you are implying that if you are having a dry spell for whatever reason, you are gonna go crazy about it? Because for you masturbation is not the solution. That's exactly the difference between sex drive and the desire/obsession for sex.
/r/PurplePillDebate12/09/15 07:44 AM
1

Yes, but it is on you to decide what exactly the value is you are providing to other people. You don't have sex? Fine, so your value will be defined in other areas of life.

The feeling of loneliness arises in the unprepared mind. I live alone but I never had a feeling of loneliness. Will you at least concede that this can be possible with a strong will and some self-knowledge?
/r/PurplePillDebate11/09/15 09:54 PM
1

Yes I fully agree, I concede defeat. Your supreme debating skills have finally convinced me. You are right on all accounts. You are in fact a pathetic loser. There is no hope left for you in this world. Good bye!
/r/PurplePillDebate11/09/15 09:36 PM

OK, I will end this conversation.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/09/15 09:26 PM

No goalposts have been moved. Any rationalization of the sex drive is a "desire for sex" and therefore an "obsession". This is just semantics now. Yes, loneliness is a conscious choice. There is a difference between being lonely and being alone. "I am alone, therefore I am unhappy." vs. "I am alone and it does not affect my happiness". Compare this to: " I do not have sex, therefore I am unhappy." vs. "I am happy no matter if I have sex or not".
/r/PurplePillDebate11/09/15 09:20 PM

Your possible value in the world is affected by other people, yet YOU can decide what kind of value it is that you bring to the world. You said you don't have sex, so obviously you would be an idiot if you would define your value to the world via sex.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/09/15 09:16 PM
0

There is a difference between being hungry and being obsessed with food. One is an innate desire, the other is a rationalization that takes place in the consciousness.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/09/15 09:09 PM
0

Let me just ask you this: Let's assume that for some reason you cannot get sex for a longer period of time. Say you are stranded alone on an island. What do you do to fulfill your sex drive? Most likely you will masturbate. Problem solved. Or is it? If you have a 'desire for sex' you might still be thinking "Oh man, if only I had real sex!" This unfulfilled desire for sex will affect your happiness to a varying degree. And that is the difference between sex drive and desire for sex.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/09/15 09:05 PM
-1

I never said sex should be forbidden. It's fine to act on your sex drive as long as you don't make the desire for sex a conscious act.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/09/15 08:50 PM
1

You are mixing up terms here. We were talking about the value you bring to the table in respect to the world.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/09/15 08:45 PM
2

Sure, but you can be of value to the world without having sex obviously. In order to be happy, you need to adapt your value accordingly.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/09/15 08:20 PM
2

Yes, you are right. This is a question everyone has to answer for himself. Life has inherently no meaning. It is just the result of some self-replicating loop that got started a few billion years ago. However, individual lives can have meaning. The meaning of your life could be to maximize your own happiness. And in order to maximize happiness, you need to give your life some value. Whatever it is, you need to find that for yourself.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/09/15 08:06 PM
-1

You assess your value in the world based on how others judge you. I'm sure that you can see that nothing good is ever gonna come out of that.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/09/15 07:50 PM
-2

I am going to kill myself. Do you think every omega male who can never have sex or be loved should do that? No, read some philosophy before you kill yourself. And stop using terms like "omega male". This is just a projection of your desire for sex. A man who has no sex is just a man like any other human being. Ever thought why monks generally don't kill themselves? Think about it.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/09/15 07:42 PM
-1

So basically your point is "You can't have sex. Deal with it, loser" No, that's not my point. That's your projection. After gaining self-knowledge, you won't be thinking in terms of "I can't get sex, I am a loser." This thought would never cross your mind.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/09/15 07:36 PM
-1

No one said stop improving yourself! Gaining self-knowledge is the most important form of self-improvement. You implied that you are unhappy. So just keep doing what you are doing then.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/09/15 07:30 PM
-4

Of course, this is not a matter of morality. It is about self-knowledge and coming to peace with your own mind.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/09/15 07:21 PM

Start reading some philosophy. Start reading up on Buddhism and Stoicism. Start reading classic literature. Pick up meditation. Being in peace with your mind and being independent from others is the most important skill you can learn.

Most men have a sex drive. For a large portion of those men, that sex drive goes unfulfilled. They try to fulfill it but fail. Those men aren't happy about this. Yes and there is an easy fix for that. Be happy no matter if you get sex or not. It's doable because "desire for sex" is a rational act and not an innate one. This is the teaching of many philosophies such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Stoicism etc.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/09/15 07:06 PM

Sadly you have understood nothing of what I wrote. Desire for sex is NOT the same as sex drive. Desire for sex is an act of consciousness and is not innate.

all of this does bode well for a man who is in good physical shape, highly educated, and has decent to good game Not really. If your SVM as a man increases, so do your expectations in a partner. I am highly attractive and highly educated and I expect the same from a female partner. This is not just a preference, but rather a necessity to get me sexually aroused. Intelligence and beauty follow a normal distribution. That means, I would consider partners that are in the top 5% in both categories. …

In ancient times, the majority of men were either hardworking farmers, warriors or craftsmen. Those men were brimful with testosterone. It's pretty obvious that those men could give women more tingles than today's blue collar wimps.

You could predict human behaviors if they were 100% innate. This is obviously not the case. While it may be correct that mating behavior has an innate component that could be explained with evolutionary theory, this innate component makes up a small percentage of the overall behavior. The largest part is learned behavior that can be influenced by all kinds of environmental factors such as culture, social dynamics and childhood. Therefore, only a halfwit would draw any conclusions from evo psych …

Look up Dark triad on Wikipedia. There is also a section on r-selection.

There are lots of publications that use intraspecific r/K selection theory. Just look up life history theory.

Most RP guys don't want to be the "k" guy who is the "settle down" guy after she has had her fun with the "r" guys I would say it is not so much a "first r", " then K" but rather a constant switching between both types of males based on the menstrual cycle.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/08/15 07:23 PM
2

Do men have a genetic predisposition towards on strategy or the other? I would suppose so. It may be partially genetics, partially exposure to other r-selected males during adolescence. It might also depend on the dominance relationship of the parents. Men that had stable parenting may have a tendency for K selection. That's why it is probably relatively difficult to willfully switch from a K to an r-strategy as an adult.

Not really. Ethics does not arise because philosophers say what's right and wrong. Ethics is a fundamental part of human nature. As I said, it is a mechanism (a sort of group pressure if you want) that ensures integrity of a society. What is right and what is wrong is not determined by abstract thinking of individuals, but by society as a whole. Therefore, any conduct that leads to loss of integrity of the society is unethical. Simple as that. You can easily assess the social integrity of your m…
/r/PurplePillDebate16/08/15 06:48 AM

from a ethical stand point it makes sense. No it doesn't. Ethics is a set of values that a society silently agrees upon to ensure integrity of the society. A society can therefore by definition never agree upon the extinction of itself because it would cause the loss of said integrity. Therefore the view that humans should become extinct is the morality of a psychopath.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/08/15 06:23 AM

Yeh the biotruths are dumb. If the biotruths are incorrect, then there is not much else left. Then you would have to challenge all your conclusions drawn about female nature. Evolution went from simpler to more complex organisms, not the other way around. That's why anthropomorphic approaches are never a good idea. It's a matter of semantics. Human morality obviously does not exist in animals, but we can find common roots for this morality. Once we have established the common roots, we can use it as a framework for human morality.
/r/PurplePillDebate08/08/15 08:29 AM
1

This is incorrect. Morality consists in animals in the form of group pressure. For humans it is the same thing, a form of group pressure to ensure integrity of the society, no more no less.

Great post, TRP in a nutshell.
/r/PurplePillDebate07/08/15 09:39 PM
1

OK, so I suppose you would agree that the juxtaposition of TRP and the blue pill is incorrect since TRP has a narrower definition of happiness.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/08/15 09:20 PM
1

Agreed, so what is TRP exactly? A group of scientists that strive to get a better understanding of the world? Or a self improvement group? Clearly the latter. What is the aim of a self-improvement group? To make its members lead happier lives. Now we know that there are millions of people that already lead happy lives. We conclude: both your understanding of the world and their understanding of the world is equally valid.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/08/15 08:42 PM
1

Well, clearly there is no one true "understanding of the world" if various different approaches make people lead equally happy lives.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/08/15 08:20 PM
1

Depends what you mean by "valid", doesn't it? There is a better and worse way if you're hoping for a certain outcome. Yes, IF you're hoping for a certain outcome. And that is where it becomes a lifestyle choice. Not every man strives for one-night stands with easy women. Not every man wants to always have the upper hand in a relationship. Not every man wants to put so much thinking and effort into his dating life. There are many different ways to lead a happy and fulfilled life, and there should…

A debate is a form of competition between opposing ideas, and that means there will be a loser. Red pill and blue pill are different approaches to dating (!), so I don't quite get what the desired outcome of this debate actually is. There is no 'winner' and no 'loser'. Both approaches are equally valid. You don't get a prize by making the 'correct' choice, at the end of the day, it is all about self validation. If this was a scientific discussion on nature vs. nurture, it would be an actual deba…
