I'd definitely recommend checking out that book I mentioned in another comment then. When you start getting in your head about social stuff, every little interaction that doesn't go "perfect" gets magnified in hindsight. The shitty thing is you're the only one scoring the interactions so you're the only one fretting about it afterwards. There's a very good book about shame called "I Thought It Was Just Me (But It Isn't)" by Brene Brown. It's written for women, but I read it and it was life-changing. If you deal with insecurities, I'd highly recommend it, brother.

Yes, this is it. I don't want to make assumptions about you, OP, but often people who feel like they were raised to "be nice" see that as more important than standing up for what is important to them.
