Interesting. I think having a "men's only" study lounge in the first place might have prevented the complaint/take-down, but it wouldn't have worked as a response... the whole "separate but equal isn't equal" bit. I can appreciate the want for a private study environment, but surely there's other areas on campus that meet that need. Women's dorm common areas? Private rooms in campus library? Maybe a sorority facility?

Caution: I recently joined a trans-issues discussion on this sub to suggest (not assert) there might be significant enough physiological considerations for anyone undergoing hormone therapy to merit specialized treatment. These folks are just (inaccurately) advocating eye-for-an-eye; nothing special about the crime being rape. You could claim hypocrisy in the same way anytime eye-for-an-eye is advocated. Was expecting immediate extreme negative feedback for a tasteless (but necessary?) joke. I'd like to think that if I were to wake up a quadruple amputee, I'd find a way to keep enjoying life - but I've never experienced the kind of trauma that got him to where he is now. It's easy to get mad at the VA because of their obscene incompetencies, but some of that anger should be redirected toward the decision of "expending" so many service members in execution of OIF/OEF.

The "double standard" is one of perception - that when a woman wants a more attractive man, it's perceived as perfectly reasonable, but when a man wants a more attractive woman, it's perceived as sexist. Focusing on the double standard, even if it feels sooooo good, is missing the point. Instead, men should simply recognize the reality of what women want them to be (rather than what women say they want men to be).
