I'm pretty sure that in the eyes of the law you can't give consent as a 13-year-old.

Nor do I think I have the hardest job in the world Just stop there then. Who's "disrespecting" you here? Nobody's arguing that being a mother is meaningless; the article is just saying it's about time we, as a society, stopped deifying mothers.

On a similar note - there was a story in a local newspaper about a women who had her ponytail cut off by some random guy on the street. In the comments online somebody said "Males should have a 9 pm curfew except for work purposes." http://www.reddit.com/r/ottawa/comments/1qgeo3/man_cuts_off_womans_ponytail_in_preston_st_attack/

The principal? What is that going to accomplish? Wouldn't an actual police investigation be more productive? (and objective?)

If by "rape" you mean "sex with young women who've enjoyed a drink or two" I'd say plenty... and that's the popular definition these days, correct?

So I suppose in short order we can expect to hear similar demands for 50% quotas in mining, the armed forces, etc, etc.

Was the first thing that crossed my mind too! Hell even 40%, try to hit that.

Not doing the MRM any favours by devoting half of an article to fringe stuff like "Red Pillers" (which I've never even heard of until now), selectively including objectionable quotes, and suggesting that the rest of MRMers are "off crying in the corner".

Good thing I've deleted my Facebook account promptly. Can't tell if this is sarcasm or not... if not; why is it a good thing to stick one's head in the sand and obliviously pretend this isn't happening?

we can follow the example of the British, the Canadians, and the Australians. They have openly addressed the problem of male underachievement Well that's news to me, as a Canadian; I haven't heard of any sort of pro-boy education policies at all.

I'm not seeing where in this article they're "ok with female teacher abuse." It seems like they're just taking issue with the fact it garners more headlines than male teacher abuse does.

It's sad to read this, but at the same time it's a little bit reassuring that there are other people out there that face the same stigmas when faced with situations like taking their kids to a public washroom etc.

I think you might be reading a little too much into that one. Sure, with some of the other more damning phrases on the poster it might give that impression, but on its own I think it's fairly neutral.

My message to the "Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre" (authors of the poster): Hello, I would like to bring an important issue to your attention. While attending my daughter's end-of-year kindergarten concert today, I noticed your poster in the lobby of the school: http://imgur.com/282o6SR I was extremely disappointed at the way your poster depicted men as the sole perpetrators of domestic violence, with leading phrases such as "how come dad keeps hurting mom?" and "mom and I feel safe in…

Seriously? She uses an analogy of children to evaluate men. Like (paraphrased) "hey, men don't have to deal with much, but we generally assume that children don’t have much to deal with much either, and yet, we don’t blame them or hold that against them." Fuck that shit. Her heart may be in the right place on the surface but she clearly has no empathy for what many men are going through; trivializing their challenges is not going to win me over.

I'm curious if the "60% of all personal weath" figure is slanted towards women because men die sooner and likely leave things to their widowed wives? Still, interesting infographic though.

Here is the feedback I submitted: While I was listening to your program Wednesday morning I heard your guest Sandy Onyalo allude several times to "myths that are so prevalent in our society". Ms Onyalo was apparently unaware that she herself perpetuating many of these myths. A few examples: On at least four occasions, Ms Onyalo stressed that "we're talking about very small numbers" of false reports... "only 2-3% of sexual assault accusations are false". From a related article: "Funding is a struggle. Depending on the source, women’s organizations in B.C. receive between $80 million and $100 million from the provincial government. I would have liked to see that, because I'd bet you would hear the same type of quotes in terms of justification and not feeling guilty. By quoting only women they've set it up for men everywhere to read it and react negatively to women only as opposed to cheaters in general.
/r/MensRights15/09/12 05:33 PM

If we're discussing the article specifically, I didn't see anything there that implied that men are dirtbags for cheating.
/r/MensRights15/09/12 05:31 PM

Yep, they actually go as far in the article as to quote a statistic that a bigger percentage of men cheat than women... but a bunch of us are ripping on women because they're the only ones quoted/analyzed in the article.

Ok, let's not get all irrational over every story that appears in the media with the word "Men" in the title; I read the article and was more-than-ready to be offended at every turn, but overall I actually found it pretty fair. e.g.: ZB (host): You point to some startling numbers that suggest arrests of women are rising, while violent crime perpetrated by men – including rape – is dropping. You raise the “unsettling possibility” that the shift in gender roles may see women turning violent, with …

No doubt it would be enough for the police to look REALLY closely, but I've got to think that their lack of a consistent story between them would probably put the thing to rest. Still, not saying it's ok at all... this is fucked up.

Yup, that was my first thought too - it's teaching the two boys that once they become adults, they too will suddenly not be trusted to sit beside children for fear that they may sexually assault them.

Guys sitting beside women should start asking to be re-seated next to someone "who won't falsely accuse me of rape" just to make the point of how stupid it is to paint everyone with the same brush.

People seem to think that divorce just magically happens to a couple, and that marriage is basically a game of statistics Yes, absolutely agree - I'm tired of hearing people quote the 50% statistic like every marriage is subject to some kind of magical flip of a coin, and you have no control over the outcome. Many divorces have trouble written all over them from very early on in the relationship, even if one side is blissfully unaware of the issue(s).

Yes, as a matter of fact I do. As strange as it might seem, that's why I married her. No doubt you'll accuse me of being naive, but I beg to differ. We have always been very open and honest with each other when it comes to money matters, raising children, and most importantly, each other's happiness. So turn the tables... how are you going to feel when you someday discover that you've gone through all of the traditional financial struggles of a family - mortgage, vehicles, putting kids through college, etc - only to discover that your partner has squirreled away fifteen-plus thousand dollars that could have come in really handy on numerous occasions? When I clicked on this I thought the argument would be that men on average work more hours in a day, and thus should be entitled to earlier retirement for essentially "completing X years of service earlier". Heard this on CBC the other morning. What really caught my attention was that the man was originally charged with aggravated sexual assault, which the interviewee said (and I'm paraphrasing) is usually reserved for cases such as an extremely violent rape that leaves the victim with major blood-letting wounds.

So would a woman be more offended by a) a good looking young woman in a bikini appearing in a commercial, or b) a commercial stating that all women are irritating/stupid/substitute-your-favourite-insult here
/r/MensRights29/05/12 09:54 PM

I am fine with the fact that any given product is marketing to a man or a woman, why would anyone take issue with that? What makes me angry is that apparently the best way to appeal to women is to remind them all that men are unreliable assholes. Why should that be acceptable?
/r/MensRights29/05/12 07:57 PM

Dude it's just marketing Yes I can see it's marketing. But I still take issue with the fact that marketing a good time to women is synonymous with reminding them how unreliable all men are. You probably don't get offended when hot women are in car advertising or beer commercials. But I can see how women would be. EDIT: messed up formatting.

I'm not so sure it's that simple. You could make the opposite argument; that an accident/claim would matter less to the person who can afford the $100k vehicle, because hey, he/she can afford it... whereas the poor sucker driving an old beat-up car worth $3,000 is being a little more careful because he can ill afford his insurance rates to go up. Also consider that when you get into a fender-bender with a cheap car, the repairs are typically far cheaper than say a Mercedes or BMW. So you could m…

You're talking an awful lot about discrimination, but I never mentioned discrimination in my initial post. I talked about stereotyping - assigning the same characteristics to all people of a visible group. e.g. A higher percentage of men are reckless drivers, therefore ALL men should be treated as reckless drivers. And I questioned how people would react if a company similarly said "a higher percentage of visible minority group X get into car accidents, therefore ALL members of visible minority …

I love how "No offense, but" comments are inevitably followed by something insulting. What did I make up exactly? Most of my post was questions, not statements of fact. I was merely stating that I think this will never happen, even if it can be backed up by statistics. It would be PR-suicide for the first company to come forward and state "based on statistical evidence, we are now going to be charging higher rates if you belong to Group X."
/r/MensRights27/05/12 05:50 PM

Only partially true. They consider 1) your own personal driving history 2) the stats for other people of your sex and approximate age 3) the stats for other people who drive your type of vehicle So for #1, obviously if you personally have had previous accidents, speeding tickets, etc, those affect your rates. 2 - if you are (for example) young and male, and young male drivers statistically drive more recklessly, speed more, and are involved in more accidents, your rates go up. 3 - personally I c…

Yeah, came here to say this. I suspect you could comb through traffic violation ticket data from the police and find all sorts of interesting trends. e.g. who rolls through stopsigns more? who runs red lights more? who changes lanes without signalling? etc. But how would people react if, say, Asians paid higher rates? Blacks? Is it still "racial stereotyping" if its backed up by statistics? Of course it would never fly; people would be up in arms. Men put up with too much bullsh-- like this.
