I think these are the two points that most matter to MRAs: that some women are not charged when they say "I made it up because ___," for fear that real rape victims will not step forward, and the fact that it seems like in the case of a rape accusation, the accused is guilty until proven innocent, and even then he had to have done something to get her to say he raped her right?

I would say its the birth control and abortion legislation making the rounds most likely, those are big steps back for female reproductive rights

I've addressed all your points, your sweeping generalizations of all feminists and your No True Scotsman fallacy demonstrate that your skepticism against all feminists is ill-kept. You latch on to the minority of radical feminists and say that they represent the majority opinion of all feminists, which is as damaging to feminism as when it is applied to MR in the same way

no, this is an expression of the no true scotsman logical fallacy. Just because you identify with a group does not mean you immediately have to agree with all actions of that group. For instance, just because I don't think half-life 2 is the most amazing game ever doesn't mean I'm not a gamer. And this happens for MRAs too, the very argument you are using is why modern society dismisses MR as a hate group, because they see the radicals and think "all MRAs must be like this, thus all MRAs are hor…

I don't even have to argue issues, you are talking specifically about radical and post-modernist feminism right now, so your generalization that all feminism is about equality in name alone is already wrong. Both MR and feminism came to be because a group of individuals thought that gender dynamics weren't equal. At the very core of both ideologies is egalitarianism, so yes, you can be a feminist and an MRA at the same time. The reality is that extremists and idiots from both parties co-opt the …

the exact same can and is said for MRAs who are also feminists, and it's still wrong. We aren't here for gender wars, we're here for equality

I'm pretty sure half the outrage is because in many feminist circles, sex is rape because you were drunk

WWII was a huge factor in the US becoming a superpower after the war. I respect your sentiment and agree with your original point but as it stands we kicked so much ass in WWII we forgot to take names

amputees and paraplegics who meet the requirements for performance, if they exist, should be allowed to try out. My problem is not inclusivity, my problem is denying an entire sect of the population, which includes able-bodied people willing to fight, from applying because of their genitals. Why do women cost more logistically?

I don't entirely understand your first sentence, so I wont respond to that. The answer to your second point is gender norms. I'm not saying women didn't benefit from being in a caretaker role, and they still benefit today from less societal pressure to perform, as evidenced in suicide rates, and workplace accident rates, etc, but they also had limited rights as imposed by said position. Many women and men use the privileges they gain through gender norms imposed on them in order to get ahead in …

that's not the point. The point is they are barred from even trying. Rights are not about getting enough people to do something so you maintain the privilege of doing it, they're about having the right to do something. if we open signup to women I'm sure the dropout rate will be higher, I'm sure less women will sign up, you'll probably be able to count those who are accepted on one hand. But none of that is the point

It shouldn't be a decision, I agree, I was just making the point that OP's idea was slightly silly. I'd rather do this to a woman now rather than back then edit: depluralizing

I mean, back then women couldn't even vote, and they're still not allowed in the navy SEALs. The dude at the recruitment office would probably laugh at you and tell you to bring her back home

I think you have it. Traditional gender roles worked and continue to work in very many places, producing productive, stable societies in which many people may be very happy. But people on the whole aren't as happy as they would be if they could do whatever they wanted, and the rights of individuals of either sex and all genders are less numerous than they would be without proscribed gender roles. The only argument I can see for continuing gender roles as they are is "well, it's worked so far, ha…

feminism is such a panacea of ideas it's difficult to reply to your post simply. I have a lot of female friends who self-identify as feminists, and I would also identify them as such as well. In almost every case that has arisen they acknowledge sexism (or at least double standards) against men, but prefer to discuss sexism against women, which I find no fault with, since women do tend to have it worse.

you're entirely right, and I hope to god most of the comments have been the same, as /r/mensrights hasnt exactly been a poster child for acceptance. As a movement it's so easy to villify and blame, take the worst of the worst and put it up on display and get (rightfully but easily) offended. When you get down to it, both mensrights and feminism is comprised of people who believe in equality of genders, and bigots not deserving of the title

while obviously wrong, this is gleaned from a website, someone at google didn't write this, they wrote the code to get this from wikipedia, or the oxford english dictionary, etc

honestly I feel like the people who say this aren't feminists, just like the people who say "lighten up, make me a sammich jokes are just jokes" arent MRA's. They're just people who think everyone take things too seriously, and should lighten up a bit, as opposed to being a spokesperson for their gender/rights affiliation

cracked just pays people to write articles. They have frequent contributors, but anyone can get published as long as a certain article passes a threshold of quality and compliance. interestingly too, I don't know if this was the writers' intent or not, but half the points they bring up are gender-neutral in their unfairness; they seem equally unfair to both sexes. Lots of the comparisons lead with a sentence that could have been in a female version of the same article. for instance: "But beer co…

the way I had heard it was to tell rapists not to rape. I would even go as far as to say that the people who say 'men' instead of 'rapists' are also the people who think men can't be raped, thus adding even more bigotry into the system

I still think clothes in some fashion reflect on your character - just as all observable phenomena you have control over - but I don't have a problem with the idea that a rape should not be dismissed as 'she was asking for it' because she was wearing a low-cut blouse. I do have a slight problem with the tag line for rape education, which is "only rapists can prevent rape." Only murderers can prevent murders. Only pedophiles can prevent fucking children. Rape education is a good thing, but I cert…

I get the feeling that there were a bunch of rational feminists who, back in the day, got together to list grievances and make things more fair. This turned into a movement, lost direction, and now we sit in a world with inequality on both sides, where those more concerned with their rights argue amongst each other while bigoted people everywhere else of both sexes take whatever advantage they can get to further their own agendas, fair or not.

that's how I read it as well. 'not be taken as seriously as a [all-]male team' sounds like he thinks the women's team should be taken just as seriously as an all-men team, not whether or not gender exclusivity in teams was offensive.

But the point of men's rights is not to draw ire from white knights and feminists. It's to actually combat issues that men face. I'd agree with your sentiment if the point of men's rights was actually what was said in the sidebar and on the top of the page, and it happened to be inflammatory, but it isn't. Part of the energy of the movement comes from endorsing rational and intelligent alternative ideas, and generally, rational and intelligent ideas can stand on their own without having to name-…

wouldn't it be hilarious if, by adjusting classrooms to suit girls better in order to put a band-aid on the problems women face later in life (kinda like how affirmative action isn't made to combat racism in schools, but to reward those of minority race at a similar level of competency because life is on average harder for them) they continue to lower the general performance of men, swelling the numbers of the uneducated and misogynistic masses, thus compelling their arguments for more protectio…
