i don't think it's insecurity as much as it shows they are boring and have nothing to talk about

tho i've been dating someone a while who is okay he hasn't made any push for commitment so i'm keeping my options open but man i don't understand how anyone finds multiple prospects. I was talking to someone on Bumble for a bit and he's sent me two selfies (already a no) but in one of them he was wearing a spiderman t-shirt. like i guess you do you but would it be acceptable for me to be wearing a little mermaid tshirt as an adult? or my little pony or something? why is it so hard for adult men …

It's gonna sting now but when she's my age (30) and still hot with a lot more money and her masters, she's barely gonna remember this idiot. It sucks I guess but she did the move the right way (scholarship/job, not dependent on him) and will be totally fine.

Girl, I have had the same experience. Years of LVM in my 20s. Since finding FDS I have dialed back the pickme stuff and, while I won't call a guy I'm seeing HVM yet, I will say that yesterday when I sent him a photo of my brunch, swooning over how good it was, he vowed that he'd recreate it for me even better. I've never even invited him into my house, yet alone offered to cook. The last time we went out, HE packed the picnic. They really are out there, I guess we just have to be picky!

I would for sure be comfortable with more physical intimacy at this point but even before FDS I never was the kind of woman who would make the first move. Normally, we all know that LVM are usually unable to keep their hands off of you so I haven't ever had to. I am almost wondering if I went too far the other direction and now dude respects me too much to try anything physical. If he hadn't kissed me this weekend I would've been convinced I was in the friendzone.

Haven't been here in a long time because the pandemic put me off dating, but I check in and read every once in a while. I became single at the start of February and was on Tinder for like 5 minutes during March and gave my number to a guy who was incredibly patient and waited until August for me to be comfortable going out in person with him. (He'd text here and there to check in, nothing creepy.) I have been employing FDS and, well, basically giving him nothing. He's planned all our dates, pick…

Forgot to add, the worst way that this fucked me up was sexually. The longest relationship I had (almost 5 years with a dude 10 years older) was, OF COURSE, super sadistic and witholding on his part. Tiny pickmeisha me thought I was in control, but he really messed up my views about sex for a long time. I'm still recovering.

I became single for the first time ever at 24 and had a bunch of flings with guys 10-15 years older than me. Most of them were reasonably hot and all of them had a lot of money so that we could go to fancy restaurants, stay in hotels, etc. I wasn't ever looking for commitment from these guys. I knew that 1-2 were in other relationships and I even convinced myself to be okay with that (zero self worth and felt like I'd missed out on a lot of fun not being single in my teens/early 20s) but now in …

During our breakup, my last ex told me that he couldn't want anything serious, anyway, because he'd gotten out of a serious relationship only 3 weeks before we'd met. I'm still mortified, knowing I'd spent time around his friends, his coworkers, his brothers, etc., feeling like I was the girlfriend when they all must've known that I was just the rebound.

Gonna get downvoted to oblivion for this but I think so. I am still good friends with a guy I met in Sunday School when I was 8. He has two Ivy League degrees and a wife who does, also. My friendship with him is based on similar interests and shared history. We have never discussed our relationships or sex lives and in the ten years his wife has been around, she has become one of my good friends, as well. ETA I can't imagine making a straight male friend in my thirties, though, unless it was the…

I know that there wasn't much anyone could've told 23-year-old me to get her to stay away from the 10-years-older guy with the company card and the presidential suite, but I wish I'd realized what a red flag it was that he wrapped his hands around my throat like the very first time he kissed me. He didn't cross that specific line again for a long time, but I still could've saved myself half a decade of drama and gaslighting and dehumanizing sex.

Something that is weird to me after I read more and more of women's posts and see how truly shit men can be... I am 100% a recovering pickme (still feel like I'm working on eradicating the pickme thoughts I don't act on), but I have never, ever had a guy not put effort into planning a first date at a reasonably fancy restaurant or not pay for everything. I have gone out with some losers, but even the worst guys pulled his shit together to plan an actual night out for us. I have also only been on…

I would not waste a single second worrying about this. Depending on your age, almost no guys actually want commitment. "I'm just going with the flow."

I am so embarrassed to say this, but it took me about four years to fully get over my longest LTR. Almost as long as the entire relationship. I never wanted him back, but I missed our life together so much. It's been seven years since I've spoken to him and I still think of things he'd think are funny. I am a truly sentimental bitch.

99% of guys on OLD are overweight, bald, or boring. Blurry photos, no real interests, boring responses to questions. It makes all my exes look like princes in comparison.

Accountability post. Does it take anyone else a long time to move on after a breakup? Even before finding FDS, I have always been the dump-er over LV behaviors, usually around being inconsiderate, financial irresponsibility, or laziness, but it still takes me months or even YEARS to get over LV relationships. I never answer their texts or drag things out, but I think about them and miss them for ages. It's been three weeks since I chucked the last guy I dated and I can't even think about trying …

When I was in my early twenties, I met this guy who played in a punk band. He asked me out and we had an awesome time, continuing to extend the evening by getting a drink, then dinner, then going for a walk, etc. leading to a really great first kiss. But the next day, his band left to go on tour. Even though I said that I didn't care what he did, we had just met, etc., he bought me back a silly little present (cheez whiz in Philadelphia, some tiny maracas at a Mexican restaurant in Boston, etc.)…

#fuckboyfree2020 starts today for me. Mortified to say that, even though I've been reading this sub for a few weeks, I wasn't ready to buy in just yet. I saw all of the LV patterns in my current "relationship" but I also liked spending time with him and, honestly, the self-hatred I've allowed to become engrained in my thought patterns after seven years of poor treatment wasn't going to let me let go so easily. Everything imploded this morning. Don't want to go into details because - even though …

Wow, genuinely can't believe I'm defending the American military - which I abhor - but some of the most HV guys I've dated were Majors in the army. West-Point educated, grad degrees, great bodies, etc. In my twenties, I lived abroad near a huge U.S. base and fraternized with the officers a lot. Absolutely, tons of them are cheaters and liars with hero complexes and 1950s gender ideas, but both men that I dated were, actually, way too serious for me at that point in my life, which is why we parte…

Have had this happen a few times. Always, always, always just ignore them and If when they come up to talk to you, be cordial but as short as possible so they embarrass themselves. Two of the worst guys I've ever dated made a fool out of themselves trying to bother me in public while I was with another man. Both times were in front of their girlfriends, too. I wanted to imagine that seeing "their man" bothering an ex who clearly wasn't having any of it would be a major red flag, but both women a…

This is 100% my parents' marriage and also why I haven't had a serious relationship in five years. Nobody lives up.

The only time in my life I have ever had any sort of skin condition was during the few months when the drug dealer I was hooking up with at age 24 got kicked out of his apartment and moved in with me. Disgusting hives all over my arms and chest. My cervix also started bleeding a little every time we had sex despite him, uh, not really being well-endowed enough to cause any tearing down there. Everything went away once I came to my senses and kicked him out.
