Favorite reply here. And no, nothing terrible has happened, and I haven't done anything bad to her at all. Rather harsh reaction for simply exchanging of pictures with my Mom. This was by no means a full-fledged fight of some kind, and I tried to make that clear. I don't know men can raise awareness to others without notifying them that there is a problem. It's been about 12 hours since the encounter, and I still am happy with how I handled it in hindsight.

The word target does admittedly make standing up for men's rights sound far more aggressive than it actually is. My point in saying we should 'focus' on younger feminists is simply that we probably can't change everyone's minds who are already stuck in their ways with gender roles. But the least we can do is attempt to fight for equality among those whose sexism has yet to be solidified.

I was blessed with an incredibly intelligent, albeit stubborn mother, and I think she actually took my point in stride. I'm quite pleased with how this was handled by both of us, though I can't say I would have been too bugged by a few fireworks coming from this. I actually had this thought as well, but couldn't resist throwing in some memes or even some where the sources were questionable. I was far too motivated to simply find as much backlash to her outdated pictures as possible, to rationally pick apart the quality of them in the heat of the moment. You're right, it wouldn't have been as effective because men do respond to shaming. Ironically, this is why man shaming is so effective... Because we are so receptive to it. From a marketer's perspective, props to them. But from an ethical and equality perspective, I think it's a low way to go... Which is why it was included. To add a bit of humor to it, someone actually spray-painted under one of these same billboards while they were up and it was actually pretty hilarious.

Much appreciated. This compilation of pictures I put together was far from refined... But there is something in every one that helped bring my point across. But I think there's a big difference in the impressions that can be made on adults in their 20's and 30's vs. adults in their 60's and 70's, who were alive when feminists actually had something to complain about. I understand that this ad was specifically targeted to men who avoid prostate and various other health exams, but I'm gonna stand by this one. I agree. But not when it's at the expense of threatening an otherwise healthy relationship, unless absolutely necessary. Her email on the offensive scale hit me at around a 6 out of 10. That one was my favorite too, but it's not at the top because it's apparently an actual rebuttle to a women's group made by MRA's... I disagree that a bit of a visual rebuttle to what my mom sent isn't healthy. I didn't chew her out in any way for her email. I simply responded using evidence to the contrary. I think you may have interpreted my comment backwards. This woman caused a significant amount of damage to a man's jaw, but our society doesn't believe a small person is capable of hurting a large person... Especially if the small person is a female. I'm no expert on Nascar, but I don't know if family members are included on a "team" automatically unless they're actually employed by the driver and/or working during the race. I actually would hope not. This would imply that her actions were his responsibility, and I think our entire hope on this subreddit in particular, is for women to be 100% accountable for their own choices... I think the problem is that our society defines "assault-worthy" actions very arbitrarily, depending on who committed them. Though I of course side with you on this being assault, we could easily find a very large percentage of people in both the US and rest of the world, who would dismiss this video immediately simply due to the genders of the people involved.

I understand the anger, but I think we should avoid generalizing like this, since our goal is to promote equality between genders and how we view altercations like the one in this video. Men aren't violent because they are men, and women aren't violent because they are women. There are several altercations like this one, but they are almost all two-sided and resolved internally through Nascar in the form of fines or suspensions for the two drivers. I don't think I've ever seen an incident in any sport where someone actually takes a shot at someone and walks away scot-free, especially one where injury occurs.

I think we all agree on that. Unfortunately, we have no say in what the legal system decides to define this as... We can only hope for the best that the video footage gains some national attention, and that the right outcome goes along with it. Far too many movies have taught women that this is a normal reaction to have toward a man who upsets them... Couldn't agree more... The question to ask is whether he'd actually succeed in getting charges pressed against her, considering the fact that he's the "big, strong man". My hunch is he won't do a thing about this, for fear that he'd a) not have a case for assault, despite the video evidence. As far as I understand, Nascar is all real (although your comment seems to miss the point of this link being shared on this subreddit)... Confrontations between drivers after crashes happen often, even following accidents that are clearly accidental like this one. What I haven't seen, however, is a spouse/girlfriend stepping into a confrontation and making it physical, knowing fully well (or at least believing) that she will be able to walk away without any negative ramifications.
