When your child receives love and attention from his mother you can put yourself in your child's shoes and can try to feel happy for him. But it totally depends on the subject. We have to build good role models for our kids but at the same time as a father, it is not your responsibility to build a good mother figure for your child. All you can do is being a good father for him and enable him to build a strong attachment with his mother (If mother is not refusing the child).
