yes it sadly was until about the 70ies when psychiatric patients finally got rights and it was pretty common . All a husband needed was finding a general practitioner (did not even need any psychologist supervision or any further experitse) who would write the note and she would get sent there against her will. Imagine you sre innocent and they threaten you with 30 years if you go to trial, or offer you 3-9 if you say you are guilty.
