Back then women were thought to be too emotional, emotionally fragile, unable to engage in rational analysis, etc. With some serious qualifications, this isn't necessarily wrong, and more importantly, it isn't necessarily bad. One of the problems I notice with this sub is the inability to admit that men and women are inherently different in basic ways. This means that absolute egalitarianism is impossible. There's a reason why traditional societies had the customs they had.
