What's the smallest thing you could do that would also challenge your comfort zone? Can you ask someone random on the street what time it is? Mention the weather to a checkout girl? You have to walk before you can run. You feel that if it might not work, better not to try it. But what's the harm in trying? Maybe your first therapist won't be able to do anything. Try another. If you don't take any risks in life, nothing will happen. And the risks we're talking about are minimal.

Do this exercise: go to a bathroom where no-one can see or hear you, look yourself in the eye and say, "rejection will make me stronger." start in a normal voice. Really look yourself in the eye and mean it. Then say it with more force. Say "the fear is exciting." Part of the problem is you keep telling yourself (and posting in this reddit) that the rejection is painful and horrible. That has to stop first. Start thinking positively, even if you don't believe it at first. Because so much of what…

Yeah. One of the key skills is being able to say next, whether it's a girl or a whole situation. The fact is, there are women out there every day who will be excited to meet you. Your job is to be efficient about finding them. Talking to someone who's not into you or hanging in a bad situation is a waste of time. I've walked into bars, scoped out the place, and turned around and walked right back out because I knew it wasn't my kind of situation. Paid off. Try to make sure you have a few options…

More reasons SNLs are inferior. Does plastic wrap even work? Seems like it would kill any chance of getting her off.

She wasn't underage, only too young for my own rules. I'm 35, she's 21.

Nonsense, if that were true no-one would ever get STDs. Have you been tested? Often guys get infected with no symptoms.

There's a lot of lore out there saying (see other comments) that oral is safe. Probably part of my rationalization of going down on her at the time. The science even says some bugs like Gonorrhea rarely infect the throat.

Rules about too young girls are not for STDs sake. This girl is 14 years younger than I am. I'd damage a lot of relationships, especially with family, if they knew I did that. You could argue those aren't great relationships if they're going to judge me like that, maybe so. All things being equal I'd rather be with someone a little closer to my own age. I got something in my throat in this case, from giving oral. And some bacteria are gaining antibiotic resistance these days. The worst part is y…

Something bacterial in my throat and a red rash on my balls. I'm going back to the doctor this week to get a full STD screening.

a lot of the people I want to approach It sounds like you're limiting yourself to people you think are "interesting". Be careful of that, it can limit your ability to practice. You want to practice so that when that really interesting, amazing woman does come along, you're confident and know how to handle yourself. Go talk to everyone, people on the street, guys even. Just open people randomly all the time when you're walking around. If you limit yourself like that, it's kind of like saying "But…

I agree with this one. Don't give assholes your time. Find new contexts in which you can learn to respect yourself and be more secure. then when you find yourself in this situation again, you'll be better equipped to handle it.

Many of us are here because of something our fathers left out, I know I am. I'd hope I would be able to set a good example for my children (boys and girls both) so that they can carry on naturally. Much better siuation to be in, IMHO.

"Women feed off men" is a negative way to put it. I'd say most people like being around someone who's having a lot of fun in a positive way. Women are especially empathetic, meaning that if you're having a good time they'll pick up on it too.

Sounds (to an amateur) like a touch of anxiety or obsessive/compulsive personality. Not sure what you can do to loosen up, but I'm sure a quick google around might turn up something interesting. We all have our personality quirks, so you'll be doing well knowing what yours are and how to deal with them. One of my issues is excessive guilt, spoke to some therapists about it and that helped a lot. Still bites me when I least expect it though.

Is it really such a bad thing if you've got so many women in your life that you can't keep them all straight? I say don't work to hard at taking notes, although remembering to show up for dates is important. It's her job to make an impression on you. It's a natural problem to have when you have a lively social life. Just don't be a dick about it.

Don't know what [deleted] was on about, but I'm 35 and she's 21. My rule is no-one under 25.

Don't ever say "I'm sorry if this comes across creepy"! Self-fulfilling!

Thanks. I did enjoy the moment, it was pretty hot. When she started emailing "my dear" and said she was waiting for my return I felt terrible. I don't want to break hearts. But you're right, I probably just need some perspective. And not complain about my good fortune. Come to think of it, my sister once dated a guy with similar age difference. It was a huge disaster in my family. That could be contributing to my guilt now.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
