Marvel isn't the one making the choice here, Rotten tomatoes is. It probably was, that was a dope movie, and most of the people here are good people. But with this movie, just like with the last 2 Star Wars movies there has also been a coordinated effort in some of the trashier subs and places like /b/ to trash the movie specifically because of strong females characters being in them.

I normally agree with this sub on most things but every negative thing I've read about this movie have been rants from angry incels who legitimately hate every movie with a female lead or a female with power. There are no reviews out from anyone who has actually seen the movie yet, they are basing it all on trailers, preconceived notions, or personal grudges again the actress who plays Captain Marvel.

They are trying to classify it so that transgender doesn't seem like something outside the norm, they try to make it so oh there is no normal there are cis-gender and trans-gender and both are normal. Where do you live that you fear being being beaten or shot? I hear of occasional cases of hate crimes against homosexuals and transgender folks but it doesn't seem to be a common thing, most people it seems are pretty accepting of the idea of it and the lifestyle. It's also just the norm in America, I don't know a single guy that isn't circumcised here.
