I’m sorry this happened to you. Unfortunately I hear too many very similar stories out there. Good luck to you. Hang in there.

These same women would not even flinch when a car salesperson whips out a lease contract or purchase agreement for them to sign. We sign contracts every time we engage in a financial agreement or build a relationship. Why is it any different for a marriage? The fact that we typically DON’T sign something before marriage is atypical compared to what we do for everything else.

Romantic love, the derivative of Romanticism, is a bad model of love, and have been fatal to happiness in long term relationships. Check out Alain de Botton’s lecture on it here.

You have to keep in mind that there’s a huge difference between the US Armed Forces and those of Russia and China. US is an all-volunteer force. Russian and Chinese military personnel are conscripts. As in, all eligible males are going to serve. They don’t actually have to “recruit” anyone. So, what are they selling? They are selling adventure and pride in the service. You are required to join, but you are becoming a part of this fighting machine. National pride. You are joining something bigger…

I think others have said this, but I’ll put in my two cents: for the same money you can probably get an assortment of actual weights and a decent adjustable bench, and a pull up bar, to start. Moving actual weights is probably much better to stimulate muscle growth than simulated resistance through a pulley system. Or, $3k would probably buy a gym membership (like a real barbell club) for a long time. I personally would stay away from this.

I think the big theme is that modern professionals are always looking for external validation. Test scores, degrees, certification, accolades, job/position, etc. Women they attract become a part of that external validation.

Long long time ago, in a galaxy far away and before things like smartphones and tinder, when I was using online dating sites at their infancy, I had a one date with this woman. We hit it off, had a good time. We had planned to get together the following week. Then, something came up and I had to cancel. Ok, then after awhile she sends me a very irate email saying how she noticed that I was logged on to the dating site within the past 24 hours and she didn’t want to see me anymore because obvious…

Modern women base their relationships on their feelings and emotions. I’d bet she’s bored and looking for a branch to swing to.

Married men HAVE TO make more money. It’s correlation, not causation. It’s not like employers are handing out more money because the guy is married. Single men simply do not have the wives and children spending money while they’re at work. They do not need larger homes. They dont need to pay for a second or a third car. They don’t need to save for college for their children.

Even in so called Christian churches, they treat Mother’s Day differently than Father’s Day: On Mother’s Day: hands out roses to every mother walking in, pastor asks all mothers to stand to get an ovation. On Father’s Day: pastor stand in front and yells at fathers for not doing enough.

Haha! I don’t mind a tree and some lights that you bring out every year. We are talking about every season they gotta get some new, and the stuff from last year sits in the garage (and usually it’s the dude’s car that has to sit out on the driveway to make room) or gets thrown out.

I like watching couples at Home Depot or Lowe’s, dudes with thousand yard stares into the void watching their credit card debts rise and pushing carts like mules as their women pick out stuff to put in the yard that look pretty but pretty much can’t do anything with them or eat.

I’ve heard this too. The thing is that they mean well, and in their eyes their grown son is still a child in their hearts. I’ve told them that they’ve raised their son right, with enough resilience to withstand life. Also, point out that most wives are the prime source, not the solution, to men’s mental health issues these days.

I knew it, my South Asian brother. My East Asian parents say the same things. 😂 My parents: “Who would feed you?” Me: “Me. I have a rice cooker, an InstaPot, and I can cook about a dozen meals from memory. If I’m bored, I order out.” My parents: “Who does the laundry?” Me: “I do. I can run a washer/drier, fold my clothes, and iron them if need be. I can also run to dry cleaners and have them do it.” My parents: “Who cleans?” Me: “I run a vacuum every week, and also have a Roomba. I also have a m…

I agree with all of this. One thing, though, is that the feeling that I get is that OP may coming from an Asian background. In which case, Asian parents are usually concerned about their sons not being taken care of domestically (cooking, cleaning, laundry), not financially. The son could be a professional and making 6 figures, and doing all the cooking and cleaning at home for himself (or outsourcing to a maid service), but still feel like he would need that at home. Not realizing that most wom…

Appreciate your story, and I see a lot of parallels. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’ve been in similar circumstances. The fundamental problem is that you yourself said you crave to be loved. Which is understandable. But you have to get understand the mental poison that you’re sipping on a day to day basis is that you care about what other people think of you. Stop. You cannot control this. This is out of your control. Trying to control what you ultimately cannot is insanity. The love for y…

A lot of our consumption behavior is based on caring what other people think. Displaying status, if you will. If you stop caring about the perceptions of others, less you’ll spend on stuff. Keep things that you truly need. Sell the rest and save for later. Hard times will be coming.

I think the sooner you accept reality and realize that this is something that cannot change, the happier you will be. Remember, Happiness = Reality/Expectations. You can’t change reality much, but you can change expectations. Maximize your happiness by reducing expectations to near zero. Remember that all love is conditional. No woman will love you unconditionally. Even your mother has some expectations out of you. This unconditional love thing is the byproduct of Christianity and the “Romantic …

Here are some YT channels that I tend to watch: Rich Cooper/Entrepreneurs in Cars Coach Greg Adams Better Bachelor They’re just different flavors of this content, my man. I know it hurts right now, but think about the bright side: you weren’t married to her. This is what happens when parents, especially fathers in this context, are disconnected from choosing the marriage partners of their children. This would have been a hard No for me. The fact that he chose a woman like this would be an indictment of their parenting.

Amen. I could not say this any better. Also, living life hating things is not good for your mind. It’s mental poison. It might feel good to express anger, but it’s a momentary high and it’s just a net negative. There’s a story about an insurgent in Afghanistan who was talking to an American soldier: he points to the watch that the American has on and says: “You Americans have all the nice watches. But we have all the time.” Men have all the time. Time/the wall is undefeated.

Kudos for hanging in there, and I think by now you’ve made the realization that trying to get external validation, even from your own family, is foolish and ultimately counterproductive. Do not put a lot of weight on what other people think or could be thinking of you. That’s mental poison. Pursue excellence and resilience in your physical, intellectual, financial spheres. Even if you’re mildly successful in these pursuits, as you age, you’ll make meaningful friendships along the way that may be…

And, remember, the so-called Christian women are no better. Churches are preaching that “happy wife happy life” bs, and telling men to sacrifice themselves like Christ did for the church.

Brother, first off: we are all in this life journey together. Never feel that you’re alone or you’re “less than” others. I don’t know specifics, but you’re raised by a single mother and it’s quite possible that you’ve been conditioned to seek female approval. This is hard to break from. But it’s time to de-condition yourself from this impulse to please others. This is not to say that you should act recklessly, but you should act for your self interest in mind, first and foremost. This means taki…

“Put your mask on first, then help others.” Many criticize those who pursue excellence as being selfish, but acting in one’s own self-interest is not selfishness. If everyone acted for one’s own self interest, we would be in a much better place. It is when society under the guise of altruism becomes totalitarian (see pre-modern christiandom, communism), it becomes a terror and a boat anchor around true meaningful progress.

Write up a contract for your family that they’ll be on the hook in case of divorce for alimony and child support. When they ask you, “Why don’t you get married?” just slide the contract in front of them and say, “Okay, I’ll get married if you sign this.” No married man is truly happy. They’re lying or they’ve accepted the trade-offs and the sunk costs of the deal.

Bro, Russian roulette I’m sure is very thrilling and rewarding, but the downside is that 1 out of 6 times you might end up dead. Remember, 50% of marriages end up in divorce. The remaining marriages are basically 1v1 insurgency war. As Sun Tzu said, it’s better to win without fighting. Work on yourself. Build net worth and assets. Enjoy good friendship.

Women are nice to you as long as they don’t have better options. When there’s something better, they jump. Think about an invading army. In history, women have always greeted the successful invaders with open arms. You never hear a band of women holed up in a stronghold fighting for dear life. They always have options.
