Have you ever checked out A People's History of the US by Zinn? Personally, I've only just started it. The concept is(forgive me if you know) that Zinn is writing a history that focuses on how historical events effected the people, not just the stories of the celebs like other histories tend to do. Good point. Also, if you start out with things like cannot and should not, you're likely to get negative statements. Just did, "women are..." and I got, "women are shallow" and "women are better than men." when I did the same thing for men, I got, "men are better than women" and "men are all like that" Like what? I do not know. Haha. But on the other side of it, I think it's still worth noting that extreme things like the enslavement of women are on people's minds regularly in the modern world.

The degree of offensiveness is absolutely relevant. Patriarchy does also effect men negatively by discouraging men from expressing their emotions or developing a healthy sexuality.
