Ah, I think I understand now. Though I didn't think it would be really a privilege now more so out of social habit. Aren't there plenty of married women that choose to keep their last name, or have it hyphenated?

I cannot take anyone seriously who doesn't take the time to actually spell out their arguments, even if they might have a valid point and it always seems to be those kinds of people that are the most vocal about circumstances they can't fully comprehend. For what it's worth, I am sorry that happened to you.
