Sounds like the ones at risk are pretty aware of the fact.

It's nice to see someone being level headed in this thread. So many people just jump to conclusions and doggedly stick to them. I respect people like yourself who are willing to reevaluate their initial assumptions and own their mistakes. :)

There was context to our conversation in the earlier comments. Taking away elevated privileges is not hate. I was referring to being hateful to women, not just making things equal, and to doing so towards all of them just because a particular subset of them deserves it.

What do you think I'm doing? And I'm telling other people the same when I see them doing otherwise.
/r/MensRights23/08/18 02:14 PM
1

Yes, that's exactly what I mean. By all means, aim your venom at the people who deserve it. But that does not include all women.
/r/MensRights23/08/18 02:02 PM
1

I know, and that's a shame. People are susceptible to flaws in their thinking, and laws are made by people, too, so we can't point to them to set our future direction.
/r/MensRights23/08/18 02:01 PM
1

Yes it is. And the specific people who aim their venom at the entire group based on the crimes of a few should be held accountable for it.
/r/MensRights23/08/18 01:57 PM

It's not beneficial to anyone. It's just shortsighted and appears to be beneficial to people who don't take the time to understand the consequences of their actions.
/r/MensRights23/08/18 01:55 PM
1

It's not though. Society doesn't treat people like that. Individual members of society are the ones that do it. And it's not all of them. Point the blame, and the retribution, at the specific perpetrators, not "society".
/r/MensRights23/08/18 01:54 PM

No, it's like saying that people who aren't perpetrators aren't guilty, and people who are assholes to them anyway are guilty of their own offenses.

I don't see any difference that makes it justifiable.

So when they use the term mansplaining and it's not directed at me personally, it shouldn't piss me off?
/r/MensRights23/08/18 01:12 PM

They're obviously mine. I don't need a test to confirm what I already know. It's not just because of physical resemblance, but personality and other things less obvious. I have one from a previous marriage, and it most definitely not "fucking simple". My wife doesn't tell me it's hard. Being a parent myself, I know first hand. It is 7. The eldest two are over 18 but don't work yet. My eldest daughter, in fact, is trapped in a relationship by a man who got her pregnant, and at our insistence she …
/r/MensRights22/08/18 08:27 PM

My wife didn't "trap" me, and she didn't change her tune after we got married and had kids. She gets angry at feminists, too. Hiring practices biased against men in favor of women don't affect her, except in a negative way, since her ex can't hold a job and pay child support and I'm the breadwinner. (Raising 7 kids is a full time job, and she babies me when I get home, so I don't bother going there with me, if you were thinking of it.) I get where you are coming from, because my ex was one of th…

How can I expect someone else to protest for my rights when I haven't even done it myself? We can still address it one conversation at a time. It doesn't have to be political to make a difference.
/r/MensRights22/08/18 05:42 PM

They should take the issue seriously, yes.
/r/MensRights22/08/18 05:39 PM

It doesn't need to be offensive to be a name.
/r/MensRights22/08/18 05:36 PM
2

Yep, they are automatically lying just because they are women. If anyone ever benefits tangentially from something they had no part in, and doesn't hit the streets in protest, they're automatically guilty. Stop and think about how many other situations your logic applies to, and name one human who isn't guilty in some way according to that same kind of reasoning.
/r/MensRights22/08/18 05:33 PM

You keep saying "everyone" and "no one". I'm the most obvious counter example. Tell me truthfully. Did you really ask all 200-300 of those men if they wanted kids? Or did you hear it from a few and assume about the rest? There's a source of bias in your sample, even if you really did ask them all: You were at a university. There is a known correlation between having more education and having fewer children. And there's another source of bias in your sample: You were talking to young men. Many me…

My kids range in age from 4 to 23. Every adult woman in the west is responsible for this. No, they aren't. As one counter example, which is all I need for such a ridiculously overly-general claim like this, my wife didn't ruin anyone, didn't make anyone commit suicide, didn't vote for open borders, didn't prevent funding of prostate cancer research, didn't kill anyone in a hospital, didn't get any divorce payments, and didn't make anyone homeless. This despite being a divorced mother of 4. Her e…

You must have said something stupid 4 times, then. Keep up the good work! I'm surprised to hear you spoke to every single person at your university to verify this claim.
/r/MensRights22/08/18 04:59 PM
2

I'm sure you did that personally, too. (It's just you I'm talking about, not the whole movement.) Yes, we should fight against it. Never argued otherwise. Just limit the damage to where it belongs, and not to bystanders.
/r/MensRights22/08/18 04:57 PM
1

lolol No I'm not obsessed with you. I don't even know where else you've seen me. I just saw an idiotic claim and responded to it. Most != all. And I would question your sample size for claiming it's most, as well.
/r/MensRights22/08/18 04:54 PM

I never said you asked for it. I stated my point: That you won't get it. No, you don't need to explain biology to me. You are not a biologist, for starters, so who are you to be explaining it to anyone? Where the hell are you getting your "facts"?
/r/MensRights22/08/18 04:46 PM
2

gynocentrism which your comment clearly demonstrates What are you talking about? Feel free to point it out. I never said anything about maintaining elevated privileges. That's something you read into it, not something that was actually there. My point is that we shouldn't be hateful to people who didn't personally earn it. We can't hold an entire group accountable for what a few of them have done. That logic is what lead to man-hating feminists in the first place.
/r/MensRights22/08/18 04:42 PM

I never claimed to be taking the moral high ground. Well you certainly aren't. Don't expect anyone else's support when you take the low ground. they are all like that No, they aren't. You don't know them all, so how does it even make sense to make that claim? Sorry you've had such bad luck with the ones you happened to meet.

I'm not white knighting. I'm egalitarian, and I see a lot of shit being heaped on men's heads, including myself, just for being male. That's how I ended up in this sub. But I'll be damned if I'm going to turn around and put the women who did nothing in the exact same situation as myself just because some other women were nasty people. People are individuals, and should be treated as such. When a person does something awful, that person should be held accountable. If entire groups of people can b…

I have 5 daughters, and none of them have blood on their hands. Your "solution" would screw them over for doing absolutely nothing. You are overgeneralizing, which just spreads hate and backfires in the end.
/r/MensRights22/08/18 04:21 PM
2

That would be conflict resolution.

I have a wife, a mother, and five daughters who are not like that. You are acting no better than the people you hate.
/r/MensRights22/08/18 04:17 PM
2

You're right. Let's perpetuate the problem. Who cares if we could solve it for real, when we can just make sure it'll come back our way again, over and over instead?
/r/MensRights22/08/18 04:14 PM
1

I'm all for equality. I just don't see why we should catch even more innocent bystanders in the crossfire. You're up in arms about feminists, but what about the women who aren't out to destroy us?
/r/MensRights21/08/18 11:08 PM
3

Yeah, that's atrocious, but it doesn't address what I just said.
/r/MensRights21/08/18 11:05 PM
5

It's the over-generalization that is the problem. "Only women" != "all women", but using "fem-" as a prefix like that is an implicit indictment against all women, just like "man-" as in "mansplaining" is an indictment of all men. Most people are innocent of these crimes, and these terms serve to piss off the whole group, not just the assholes that ought to be called out.
/r/MensRights21/08/18 09:34 PM
6

It's a terrible thing, and absolutely should be discussed. But creating new gender-discriminatory terms is just feeding the fire. Let's discuss it like adults.
/r/MensRights21/08/18 09:13 PM
2

I really don't think that'll be the outcome. Is that how you (or the OP, for that matter) responded to the "same heat" when it was put on you? Or did you up the ante?
/r/MensRights21/08/18 09:12 PM
5

That's nice and condescending. Who said anything about conflict avoidance? There are ways to confront people without instigating them.
/r/MensRights21/08/18 09:08 PM
13

While I appreciate this as satire, I worry that people will take it seriously, which would result in escalation rather than de-escalation. The best outcome for everyone in the long term is to stop the pendulum from swinging, rather than shoving it back the other direction.

It's all bullshit. A person is a person is a person. Doesn't matter what arbitrary categories they can be lumped into. The sooner people can grasp that, the sooner the need for <insert group here>'s rights movements will evaporate.

Oh, they were impacted. There was a risk of losing sensation in my lower jaw because one tooth was on the verge of cutting through the nerve. They literally had to break the bone to remove the tooth. I had bone fragments coming out of my gums months later. When I woke up during the surgery, the guy was bent over me with something that looked a bit like pliers, and I could hear bone crunching. I could feel pressure and movement deep inside my jaw, but not any actual pain, fortunately. It was pret…

We have to oppress men now to make it even, right? Later, we'll all be able to claim we are part of a historically oppressed group. It isn't about justice at all. It's about vengeance. Vengeance on behalf of people who are no longer even alive, against people who are no longer even alive, proxied through their descendants. Blood feud, anyone?

That's funny. As I read this, my legs were spread as wide as the seat would allow because it's physically uncomfortable to sit any other way. It's for both reasons that I've seen given on this thread. So tell me, does your comfort when crossing your legs somehow invalidate mine and other men's discomfort with the same? I don't see how it could, but unless it does, the whole basis for your argument falls apart.

And what about those who break down, and then get up and keep plugging away after it's out of their system? Having emotions is fine. Being a wimp is about giving up when things get hard, not whether you cry.

Were you not listening? I did find a wife without kids. That's the one that screwed me over. She took my son from me when he was 4 months old and I've been paying child support ever since. We are divorced now, and it totally would've been "cheaper to keep her" but that wouldn't have made it worthwhile. Marrying her was the stupidest decision I made. In my current marriage, the two older step kids have already graduated now, and the other 2 will soon. There would be no child support for them even…

I'm not stupid, for starters, and I'm not suffering either. My step kids' dad is a cheating douche who doesn't even call them. My step kids and my wife are the ones who have suffered because of that. No, I don't need to be responsible for them; I volunteered for that responsibility, because I care about people and it was worth it. I'm much happier with my 4 step kids than I was in my first marriage, and I had no step kids then. I'm living proof that what you're saying is BS, so take your insults…

Being kind to children ought to be praised, whoever made them. It's called altruism. I have 4 step kids and 3 of my own. Meeting my wife is the best thing that's ever happened to me, and that's accounting for the step kids. It's not a negative impact on my self-preservation, it's a boon to it. If you're going to judge this guy -- and me while you're at it -- for taking care of kids, you should go get your head checked.

IDK why this would be downvoted. I get what you're saying: It's not an easy thing, taking on the responsibility for raising someone else's child as your own. This guy deserves kudos! EDIT: Never mind. The dad deserves kudos, but this comment I replied to was meant to be nasty. Downvote away!

I'm definitely not trying to excuse her actions. They were twisted either way. But I think attributing that level of planning to someone who I have no doubt is a complete idiot is more credit than she deserves.

It wasn't specific people she accused.

I don't think she thought that hard about it. I think she just consulted her own moronic intuition about what would sound scary or bad, and her subconscious racist assumptions bubbled to the surface. She just wanted to play victim, and the possibility of an entire group of people being victimized by her lies never even entered her tiny brain. (Of course, I don't think she would've cared if it had.)
