The Bud Light/Dylan Mulvaney collab controversy was called woke because a trans woman drank a beer in a sponsored TikTok video. That has nothing to do with thought or language policing. In my home province, even the addition of non-vaginal sex education to the existing sex ed. curriculum was called woke.

I think the etymology is clear... Why call it 'woke' rather than 'ate', or 'shat'? I'm convinced it's from Christianity & the notion of spiritual awakening. Liberation theology was big then, lots of Christian influence in 'woke' morality. They are the ones whose souls are saved, they are indeed more "aware" and fortunately they're here to rescue the rest of us The analogy between learning transformative information and waking up predates Christianity... and is also pretty obvious.

There are some male power fantasies which are about domination, some which are about valor, and some which are about heroism. It isn't just a matter of one or the other. People are complex. You'd have a hard time convincing me that any of the power fantasy elements from, say, "Grand Theft Auto" have anything to do with valor or heroism.
