I think we really set boys up to struggle in their early years because of lack of male figures in their education environments. I call out other women any time I hear them shame men for being “feminine” which usually just means the guys were emotional over normal, human things. As far as working hard, I think you should work to the extent that you are able. But you can’t force somebody, male or female, to work in a certain sector. If you want women in those industries, you have to start marketing it towards them. Dirty jobs usually pay more because they have to incentivize people to want to do them. It all depends on context. If a certain field is male dominated because only men apply for those positions, no big deal. If it’s a thing of qualified women get rejected for those positions at disproportionate rates compared to their male counterparts, then that raises the question of gatekeeping. You make it sound like men are being forced into these jobs which actually tend to have really great pay and benefits. I actually think we should raise more awareness to get more kids (both girls and boys) coming out of high school interested in those careers because our society depends on them.
