You can absolutely do this. If you can both agree to terms without involving lawyers, it makes it easier for everyone, including the court. The best bet is to go via mediation, which is essentially one lawyer guiding both of you through the division of assets/debts. Just google "divorce mediation in YOUR CITY, YOUR STATE"

Call her and go on a date. Just be honest with her and say you might not be ready to go down that path. If it feels right, then it does. And if it doesn't, it doesn't. Don't force it. But just go out with her and have a nice casual date. Go get some coffee, or get brunch, or go at night in a chill place for a drink and some appetizers.

You need to file first. Do not refinance until after that. I tried that, and the mortgage company wouldn't even do it until I had filed.

You need an attorney to guide you in this. Her 20 year suggestions are ridiculous. Especially in regards to extra shifts and bonuses. In my opinion, your proposal seems very fair. Hers, not at all. I would suggest having some sort of clause where if she cohabitates with a new partner and/or gets remarried, all future alimony is null and void. If she gets a new provider, why should you continue to provide?

Have nothing holding you to any place? What about your kids from your first marriage? Do you not have any placement/custody of them? Or even see them?

So why did she get primary placement instead of you since she provoked the arguments?

Are you saying she won't sign joint petitioner papers to get the process started? That doesn't matter. You file as petitioner and have her ass served. Do that NOW. "Because of insurance" is bullshit. That doesn't matter until you're in the final stages of finalizing the divorce in court. Insurance doesn't get screwed up just because you filed. The process takes at least months to finalize. If you actually file, and either move out or make your soon to be ex (she's not your ex wife yet) move out,…

As others have said, women are typically "done" with the relationship before it's actually over and put on a facade to make it appear everything is ok. So they "get over it" faster, because they've been getting over it longer. Give it time. Some people say "the easiest way to get over someone is to get under someone else". If you're up to it, hop on the apps and look for some fun. You may surprise yourself.

The only reason I would need to know, is if he's going to be around my kids. That's it and that's all. Otherwise her dating life is none of my concern. Changing placement so she can see this new partner though, is concerning. She can make it work when I have the kids.

Depends on what your state laws are and what the judge says. Be prepared to split all assets down the middle. When I say be prepared, I mean be mentally prepared for that. Moving money around and/or trying to hide assets prior to a divorce is highly frowned upon and may be illegal. A judge may take you over the coals if you try to "protect" your assets. You may be fucked in terms of spousal support/alimony, but maybe not, since she makes 100k and the judge may say that's enough for her to live o…

This is a lot to take in. And it is all over the place. I'm not sure what the state laws are in TN, but the good news is that her buying 5 rental properties after you got married most likely means you're entitled to half of those assets. You are also likely entitled to half of those IRA funds.

Ask your lawyer. More often than not, you'll be directed to leave insurance as it is until the divorce is finalized. Divorce is considered a qualifying life event so you can make changes outside of open enrollment for that.

I think it's a reasonable boundary. It personally wouldn't work for me, but I'm not with someone who has that boundary. I would definitely not say it's overbearing control freak behavior.
/r/Divorce_Men31/10/24 06:33 PM

Yes, you're free to do what you want and look at what you want. However, your partner can have the boundary that if you look at XXX, the relationship is over.

In my state, you're required to exchange w2s every year to see if income changes. If yours goes down and/or hers goes up, you can request a review and have it adjusted to reflect the current amounts. But yes, how it seems that people that are bored in their marriage can get rewarded for this behavior is ridiculous.

I never said anything about controlling anyone. It's setting a boundary. I personally don't feel the need to be all "lovey dovey" like OP mentioned when at something with both my gf and my kids' mom. She is respectful and refrains from it as well when her and her bf are around me when with the kids. Asking for someone to basically respect their presence is NOT controlling them.

Talk to your ex. Tell her you would like to do a joint party, and split the costs. Tell her that you don't mind her new bf being there, but please avoid any pda if possible out of respect. Try it out, and if she can't do that, then in the future have separate parties.

Red flag 🚩 A prenup should be designed to protect you and what you have now before getting married. And likewise protect her and what she has now. It should not be a safety net for her. I could see it having some kind of protection for her in terms of alimony if she was a stay at home wife and didn't work outside the home, but it sounds like that's not the case. Just because that's what she's proposing doesn't mean that's what you have to agree on. I'm sure some friend or relative put a bug in h…

If you want to keep your house you need to pay her out in a lump sum of half of the equity. You have a few options for this. -Cash out 401k -Somehow find the cash to give her. -do a cash out refinance. I did the cash out refinance. It sucked to give her almost $100k, but that's what I had to do to keep my house.

Talk to a lawyer dude. If she gets half your retirement, then you get half of her funds too.

She wants to rub it in your face that she has moved on. Tell her that the only communication you will have is anything that pertains to your kids. That's it and that's all.

Like I said, it's not a bad idea to prepare, just in case, but to live life as if divorce is around every corner is definitely not healthy for both the marriage and your own mental health.
/r/Divorce_Men12/06/23 01:45 PM

Its absolutely ok to get a prenup, but not live your life preparing/being ready for a divorce. That's almost like manifesting it to happen. Also, #2, some states, (I know this is the case in WI) inherited property does NOT become marital/communal property. It is excluded in any division of property in a divorce.

Exactly. My gf's ex husband is a real POS. But she won't say anything bad about him to their son. She's a great mother for that.

Someone that only wants their kids every other weekend deserves to pay child support. Someone that actually wants to put in the work of being a parent shouldn't.
/r/Divorce_Men06/04/23 04:38 PM

That's bullshit on the judge's part, unless there's some reason why you shouldn't have 50/50

The thing is I see so many guys giving up before it's even started. The family court system needs an overhaul. It is so fucked when guys just concede because they expect to get fucked over. We need to address WHY they're getting fucked over. A good place to start is to respectfully stand up for oneself in court and say that they deserve equal parenting rights. The status quo needs to change. At the end of the day, unequal custody/placement and child support needs to be for situations of unfit pa…

Hey man, sorry I got so shitty. I guess I skipped over the "temporary" part. Do you have a lawyer? Any lawyer that's not pushing for you to get 50/50 is being lazy and just showing up for a paycheck and isn't trying to help you. Don't be afraid to ask questions either. As long as you're not being as ass in court, a reasonable judge should be understanding. Ask if there's any reason why you can't have 50/50 placement and custody.
/r/Divorce_Men06/04/23 03:40 PM

Sorry that I think that it's bullshit that dudes just fold and take the "easy way out" of actually parenting their kids. Unless there's drug/alcohol/mental health issues, or a lack of parenting skills, there's really no excuse for not pushing for 50% placement and custody. And no, I don't give a shit if it's a "mom state" or whatever the excuse of the week is. I can't imagine only getting "visitation" or getting kids every other weekend. I honestly feel bad for those guys. Maybe I reacted in a s…

I have been there. And I stood up for myself and have EQUAL custody and placement. And guess what? NO child support because I support my kids on a day to day basis.

Did you guys have no negotiations or talk about any of it before the judgement? You don't wait until the judgement is made! 🤦🏻‍♂️ There's always a point where you can bring up your own concerns and thoughts.
/r/Divorce_Men06/04/23 03:17 PM
2

So the judge was like "yeah... he can live on $1k a month"??? And you just went with visitation? Rather than stepping up and saying "I can parent my child half the time"??? I'm not saying be a dick, but dudes need to step the fuck up and fight for having your kids! Visiting your kids is NOT being a father! Being just a playmate every other weekend is NOT being a father. Being there for the day to day stuff is hard work, but so worth it in the end.
/r/Divorce_Men06/04/23 02:27 PM
3

How the hell can they expect you to pay out 2/3 of your income and live on $1k a month? That's absolutely ridiculous. Is there a reason why you only get visitation instead of shared custody/placement??
/r/Divorce_Men06/04/23 03:37 AM

What the fuck. How much placement do you have? She didn't have to pay you out half the equity of the house?

You need to move out and find a different roommate. Seriously. It's not helping you AT ALL to be living with your ex wife. That's not going to help your dating prospects at all either when they find out. I know that from experience. Whereas when she tells a guy she still lives with her ex husband and she invites him over, that gives a lot of guys an ego boost and a chance to puff their chest and show off in a "I got your girl now sucker!" Kind of way. Try Bumble and Hinge instead of Tinder. Or t…

So it sounds like she has a lawyer and you don't? Get one. Bring up the fact that she is underreporting on the financial disclosure form. Copies of the past couple years w2's should suffice to prove that.

The parents should be there for games. But practice, that's just the responsibility of whoever has placement during that time.
/r/Divorce_Men28/03/23 05:40 AM
1

When you say that you miss a practice, do you mean you didn't take your kid to a practice during your placement? If so, that's your responsibility to get them there. With sports, they need to go to all the practices they can. Or are you referring to during her placement, and you're not there to watch? If that's the case, she's being ridiculous. I can see going to a game when it's not your placement time, but just a practice? That's just the responsibility of whoever has them at that time.

I'd think she'd have to have some kind of proof or have the daughter be willing to testify that she doesn't feel safe with you or something. My gf's ex husband gets their son like 30% of the time and he has documented personality disorders and a history of substance abuse. If it comes down to "well 10 years ago he did this one thing" I don't see any reason for you to not get 50%.
/r/Divorce_Men27/03/23 07:30 PM

Everything needs to be split 50/50. Savings, equity of the house, placement of the kids, custody of the kids, etc. if you've been married less than 10 years she shouldn't get any alimony/spousal support either. There's no reason she can't get a job to support the kids when they're with her. Also, if she can't support the kids without taking everything from you, then she should get even less custody/placement. Like you get them 75% and she gets 25%. You should not get less than 50% placement cust…

The bride to be isn’t allowed to have fun before she gets married? SHE approached him. And she turned him down when he tried to kiss her. So guys are allowed to go to strip clubs for their bachelor parties and get a little attention from girls before they get married, but a girl isn’t allowed to get some attention from random guys before she gets married? 🤔

It drives me insane when people hear the term “toxic masculinity” and immediately jump to “traditional masculinity is under attack!” Same people that read a news headline and freak out and come to weird conclusions when they haven’t even read the article.

Honestly, if you see a guy you’re interested in, make a move. Initiate a conversation with him. The chances of a guy rejecting a girl are way lower than the chances of a guy getting rejected by a girl. I think a lot of us guys get rejected so often, that it would be refreshing to be hit on/approached by a woman.

/r/seduction05/03/20 09:30 PM

How about instead of continuing to look for more girls, talk to the two that you got numbers from. Turn those numbers into dates. These girls are people, not play things to experiment your “game” with. Talk to these girls and see where it goes before constantly looking for more.
/r/seduction02/03/20 11:09 PM

I’m glad you turned a shitty situation into a good one and had a good time. I understand not wanting to “cross that line” with the girl that had a boyfriend, but it might have been a good idea to ask for her number (or the other one) even just to have a tennis partner. Maybe she has some other single friends.
/r/seduction24/02/20 03:47 PM

Dude there’s plenty of girls out there that struggle to get a boyfriend. But yes, for the most part, guys are the “buyers” and girls are the “sellers”. That’s just kind of the way it’s been for humans since the beginning of time.
/r/seduction16/02/20 03:38 PM

No, they don’t mean ghost or flake on plans. It means like if she says “can we meet up Friday night?” Maybe don’t immediately say yes. Maybe say “no, I have ________ going on that night, so that won’t work for me” and maybe suggest some other day. If you’re available 100% of the time, it looks like you are boring or have nothing going on in your life. Women also “want what they can’t get” so to make it harder for them to get you, it makes them more attracted to you
